FIREFLY #25, available Wednesday from BOOM! Studios, is about to answer many of the questions fans have been holding onto all these years. Namely, what happened to the crew, after the battle in Serenity?
Serenity released back in 2005, and one of the questions fans always wondered about is what would happen next. Well, their first question was one full of hope for a sequel, if we’re being completely honest here.
Firefly #25 is an issue that jumps forward in time, to a point after the events of Serenity. The goal, naturally, is to answer many questions that the fans have had about what would have happened to the surviving characters following the fall of the Alliance.
The start of a new story arch, a few years later than the previous issue, the crew of the serenity find themselves being hunted by bounty hunters, the crew evade capture, and instead they capture the bounty hunters, but then the story takes an unexpected twist, they discover a portal of somekind, maybe a portal that allows ships to jump from one part of the universe to another (gateway), or maybe something related to another dimension or time? Also at the end of the issue is a very big shock, is all that it seems? is Wash still alive? cannot be true. I am sure the following issues will explain all. This issues had many different twits that I did not see coming, a very interesting story arch, the artwork throughout the issues was excellent, the choice of colour combinations to identify the different environments the story passes through works very well. Nice front cover, Only three pages of adverts to the rear of the issues. I really enjoyed it.
I like that this is like a soft reboot, jumping past the events of the film and giving us a few nice new mysteries. Not sure how these possible other dimensions are going to play... seems like a cop out to get Wash back. A death that totally wasn’t earned in my mind!
