Yessss! This is how you end a short series! I really enjoyed this new take on Harley Quinn. It was fascinating to read comics that focused heavily on the beauty that is her mind/intellect. After reading the first issue, I wasn’t necessarily sure how it was going to end but they actually wrapped up nicely. I can’t say too much because I don’t want to spoil it but I will say that Harley refused to allow anyone to play her like a fool or use her like a tool. She took the situation into her own hands and played these fools like a fiddle. In other words, she continued to be the bad ass I’ve always known her to be and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The artwork annoyed me just a little in this one. I enjoyed it more in the first issue because it was new, but the faded edges of the panel became more of a distraction when I was reading this time around. Honestly, if you’re going to pick up anything related to future state I would definitely recommend checking out Harley Quinn’s stuff.

The first issue of Future State: Harley Quinn was one of my favourite Gotham based stories of Future State, not only was the writing just a joy to read, but the art was gorgeous, presenting one of the more pleasing reads in the entire Future State line. Sadly, the story comes to an end as the second and final issue hits shelves.
The first issue saw Harley being captured by the forces of the Magistrate, and the former villain Scarecrow, now seemingly having given up his masked persona and working for the private military group, trying to convince Harley to put her mind to the task of helping them capture the other rogues in Gotham City. Over the course of the book we saw her help with the capture of Proffessor Pyg and Firefly, winning herself some freedoms from the Magistrate in response. However, we learned that the the real target, the one that Professor Crane really wanted to get his hands on, was Black Mask.
This issue begins with Black Mask making an example of a local politician who was stealing money from him, funnelling it to the Magistrate instead of Black Mask. Obviously, Black Mask isn't a big fan of this and proceeds to make a brutal example of the man. This is where we then get to see Harley join Crane and the Magistrate forces on a hunt through the crime scene, trying to find anything that might lead them to the villain.
As with the first issue, it proves to be Harley's mind that's the best tool for the job here, and she not only figures out the best way to track down Black Mask, drawing upon her own experience with the Joker to do so, but also manages to get under Crane's skin in the process. When the Magistrate fail to capture Black Mask Crane seems to snap, and a final showdown ensues with Harley, Black Mask, and Scarecrow.
I loved the fact that all it took to break Crane in this issue, to draw him back to his masked persona, was a little bit of clever goading by Harley. She saw the cracks around Crane and knew exactly where to apply the pressure to bring out his villainous self. Despite the three villains of this issue all being pretty similar in strengths and abilities, they're all regular human beings for example, it's this intelligence that Harley has that ultimately allows her to come out on top, to be the one to walk away into the night whilst Crane and Black Mask end up being arrested by the Magistrate.
If there's one thing that this book has done wonderfully it's show that under the bright outfits and the witty dialogue Harley Quinn is a character that's a lot more formidable than people give her credit for. Not because of any powers, not because of her fighting ability, but because she's smart. Shes's a character that plays down her intelligence, that relies on wackiness to make people thing she's an idiot, where in reality she's several moves ahead. It's a part of her character that often gets overlooked, but Stephanie Phillips seems to not just acknowledge, but make one of her defining attributes. It's something that I'm super excited to see her tackle more in Harley's ongoing series starting next month, a book that I'm confident will become a firm favourite of mine.
As with the first issue, the book has some absolutely gorgeous artwork inside it, with Toni Infante and Tamara Bonvillain creating easily the best looking book in Future State. Like I said in the issue one review the art at times looks more like stills from a gorgeous animated movie than a traditional comic, but it works oh so well here. The slightly more futuristic Gotham looks gorgeous, and the design for Black Mask is one of the best the character has had, with stunning gold highlights to his mask, and a big furry collar on his coat, he cuts a truly striking figure in a book filled with amazing looking characters.
I'm genuinely sad to see this series end, but it's got me eager to see what Stephanie Phillips does with the ongoing series.

Harley Quinn muss man einfach lieben, aber diese Story ... welche Story? Leider ziemlich substanzloser Schrott, und falls die anderen Serien aus der FUTURE STATE Reihe die gleiche Qualität haben, schafft sich DC gerade selber ab.

The futuristic blend of art using lighting and blurred focus is still the pinnacle here, although it loses some of its polish and diminishes later effects of fear toxin that you'd expect to be grittier. Harley does get to show off her intelligence and ability to strategize, but this issue really seems to be more about Crane than her. Future State didn't break new ground for HQ, which for "the unwritten worlds of tomorrow" is disappointing, but it was entertaining enough.

Ha ido todo rapidísimo, la verdad. Una pena, porque el juego a lo Silencio de los Corderos daba para mucho más, al igual que el quebrar a Crane al punto de recuperar su aterrador alter ego. Pero supongo que a DC le interesa volver a tener a Harley Quinn en su conocido status quo de alocado espíritu libre por las calles de Gotham.

Sadly I preordered this, otherwise I would not have picked it up after the dire first issue.
It was like a meditative exercise trying to force myself to read it so i was not just throwing my money away.
I failed halfway through and flipped to the end.
The worst book of Future State. Which is saying something because there’s a few stinkers.

Freakin fun.
The art was good, the twist was good and I laughed a few times. Really can’t ask for more.
I think either the birds of pray series or the Gotham city sirens series should have been paired with this instead of the next Batman. Or both! Maybe the trade... overall, great Harley Quinn story.

I hoped this issue would be better, but instead it was worse. What I liked: Harley Quinn. I love Harley Quinn especially when the Joker is nowhere to be found (because I don't like him, sorry, not sorry). She's funny, smart and it really shows in this series.
But the plot itself was weak, the pacing all over the place and the ending rather confusing. Disappointing.

Stephanie Phillips does a great job of making Harley Quinn a character that can stand on her own. I wouldn’t mind seeing a little more from her on a longer run. The dialogue and art just matched Harley really well.

This was a mundane issue. Nothing out of the ordinary; the story seemed to end on a sour note. The ending didn't seem to have a good payoff for the villain being captured to feel rewarded, but it seemed like an okay read overall.

This was good short series. I was brisk and didn't get bogged down with more than it needed. I loved the art style in this series. It was very cool seeing the Scarecrow briefly and the ending was satisfying.

This was a well crafted story. I look forward to reading the new Harley title by this writer. She gets Harley’s voice and executes it well. All round a great book

Did not like it much, and the art / paneling was difficult to understand (very large but thin panels with very close zoom on the characters, I was not even sure what it was in some occasions).
