I really do love this series, it is just so fun with wonderful characters that make me constantly laugh out loud. It was so much fun seeing how Stacy ended up back with her aunts and grandma. Highly recommend this series.
Well. This was not for me. The only reason I finished it was because it was so short. I should have put it down when the random bar patron came in with a stuffed animal and then proceeded to buy it a drink then beat it up? What on earth was the point of that?
Overall I just disliked every single character except maybe the dog and the cat. The general setting was also just not my scene. Bars, motorcycles, numerous bar fights or similar. And the highly overdone law enforcement officer as the love interest trope. Did he have to also be named Leo? There were also multiple love triangles which are just annoying to me at this point.
Safe to say this is not a series I will be returning to. Just not my cup of tea.
My Rating System: ⭐️ - Garbage. DNF’d or I wish I didn’t read it. ⭐️⭐️ - Meh. Disliked most of it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - It was ok. I was entertained for the moment. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Liked it. Would recommend, won’t re-read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Loved. Recommend it and will re-read.
This is a delightful novel to read. Not a long novel, but a short story. But with a beginning, middle and sn end. I was thoroughly enamored with everything from the story, to the characters, to the setting.
Amethyst Bay is a magical little town that I would love to visit! I was taken in by a wonderfully woven story and quirky characters that you would love to sit down with over a cup of tea and scones.
Witch Way to Amethyst Bay is a fun read and I highly recommend it. I can’t wait for the next book!
I really enjoyed this prequel novella... I wish I would have read it prior to book one; it fully introduces the characters and their relationships which allowed me to connect more with the overall story... I gained an understanding of Stacy’s roots and her decision making process to return home to Amethyst... It also laid out the interactions between Stacy, Leo, and Chase more clearly allowing me to connect with their chemistry... The overall mystery was certainly intriguing and the use of sarcastic humor had me laughing out loud... I love this wacky cast of characters and their mischievous antics... looking forward to continuing with the series... 4 Stars:)
It was great to read about when Stacy went back home for the first time. The mystery was good and I learned a lot about the characters. This book was a bit dark. Birdie is suspected of poisoning her ex.
Cheap, trite, trash with a juvenile writing style that made me cringe and literally shake my head while I read.
I began reading this book with medium to high expectations about it being an enjoyable quick read, something nice to read easily and relax to. I ended up hate-reading it simply because I did not want to start a Did Not Finish shelf.
The sheer number of "funny" accidents the protagonist gets herself into are too many and too improbable to hold any fun. The characters are caricatures. The amount and type of violence depicted was cartoonish. I was about to say, except for the big scene at the end, but even there it got silly.
Then there are the unnecessary ignorant descriptions like a white man with clear mental health issues (no reasons for his outbursts ever given) being called "Samurai Pete," and a meeting being described as a "pow-wow." No ma'am, it is not. This was no Native American ceremony, nor was it anywhere related to the powwow/ braucherei folk magic of Dutch and German immigrants.
It had its moments... like including a Great Dane named Thor and nice community bonfire. But no, I cannot recommend this book to anyone even if all they want is an easy beach read.
I really liked this book but was disappointed that the author neglected to have someone act as proofreader/editor. It was well-enough written, but there were enough errors to impact my enjoyment. I did like the storyline enough to read another by the same author.
A cute series that is a nice easy read. Small town girl loving in the city comes home when grandparent takes ill...a similar storyline to other series however that does not take away from the book. I liked the story, I liked the different characters and reading their different stories. I liked the use of the humour and it had me laughing out loud at times. I liked the different characters and look forward to seeing what the different characters get up to next. x
I like reading books about witchcraft and comparing everyone's ideas about how it works, etc. This book was fun to read even though the witchcraft part was minimal. There were two rituals partly described, and mention of spells and abilities. However the balance of the book was a story about a girl coming back to her home town to check on her Grandfather who has become ill under mysterious circumstances. There is a grandmother and her two aunts, a cousin, and a first love boyfriend. Add to that a cat and a great Dane and a few miscellaneous people, mix them together, and you have the story of a granddaughter who wants to find out who has put her grandfather in the hospital and why.
It is a good mystery story with a little witchcraft, a little love interest, and a little humor thrown together. At times I found a few details confusing, but overall, it was a nice book to read. At times the main character wasn't very likeable, but she certainly had family loyalty and love.
Amazing book! I love the twist with witches combined with mystery. I love how she denies she is a witch but everything she does literally points to the fact that she is. I hate that her grandpa was poisoned but I’m glad they found out who did it. I hated that her grandpas girlfriend was killed. I love how Birdie had a plan the entire time and how she literally turned the police cell into a vacation for herself. I loved Cinnamon and how she was there for her through everything.
Stacy Justice lives in Chicago working as a reporter. She had moved far away from her kooky family in Amethyst, IL. She tried to turn her back on her witchy upbringing. She is brought back to Amethyst when her grandfather becomes deadly ill. She and her cat move into the guest house of the bed and breakfast that her Grandmother and Aunts run. She believed that she was perfectly content with her life in Chicago but the longer she spends in Amethyst with her cousin, Grandmother, and Aunts she can see herself moving back to be near her family. The doctor’s find out that her Grandfather was poisoned and her Grandmother becomes the prime suspect. Stacy is determined to find out who really poisoned her Grandfather.
This is a hilarious book. Stacy’s Grandmother and kooky Aunts are delightful. Sometimes Stacy came off as having an attitude about being in Amethyst but loyalty, love, and support of her family win out in the ends. The mystery is well developed with several twists and turns along the way. Although the characters are witches the paranormal aspect is on the lighter side of the elements in the story. So if you enjoy cozy mysteries with a touch of romance, witchcraft, kooky characters, and humor this is a book for you.
I listened to the audio version of the book. Narrator Erin Fossa as a lovely voice and great comedic timing and easy to understand accents. She is an asset to this book bring the story to life.
I received this audiobook as a prize, all opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
The most chaotic book I have ever read. The pieces are there for a solid book, but holy cow. The plot is like watching a pinball whiz all over the place. Pure chaos.
This is the first book I've read by this author, and although I wasn't surprised by the direction of the story, I was a bit disappointed as I really wanted something a bit different in the witchy-cozy-mystery genre. This genre tends to the formulaic and generic unfortunately.
I liked Stacy and her witchy family, I liked their quirkiness and snark, and I loved Thor the goofy Great Dane. The plot was okay though predictable, the pacing and writing was good.
What really brought it down for me is the stupid love triangle and the constant "he is just soooo sexy and soooo gorgeous!" internal comments from Stacy. Seriously, is she 14 years old? I am just so tired of this kind writing, and it is really prevalent in this genre. I must admit I skimmed through the romance parts.
The reluctant-witch cliché is also off-putting. Why must every magic user be just so reluctant? I get that Stacy blamed herself for her father's accident, but nobody in her family ever addressed this with her for what, 10-12 years?
Anyway, I will try the next book (which is really the first in the series) and see how it goes.
Not so much a back story as much as a full story on its own. Stacy find out her grandfather Oscar is in the hospital and her grandmother Birdie is suspected of causing it. She comes back home to see him and finds out that there is something going on with her grandfather - and it isn't Birdie. This town firmly falls into the 'Twilight Zone' as Stacy says, but there are so many knots in this one that you need a program to keep track! Fun! Her cousin divorced because of the town floozy, her grandmother 'confesses' to poisoning, but didn't (and hands out in a spruced up jail cell), the new Police Chief is an out-of-Towner, so he doesn't know the backstories, and nobody will talk to him and her Aunt's are eccentric to say the least. Her old boyfriend is not shy with his affection and the new Chief wants to get to know her better. Could use a re-edit, there are some very confusing sentences. No sex, minimum vulgarity, some violence-mostly to Stacy.
This book is packed full giving a thoroughly entertaining read. We learn more about Stacy, why she went away, and why she came back. We also get a better understanding of the characters and their backgrounds. The first pages had me laughing out loud setting a great pace for the book. This book has it all; comedy, romance, mystery, drama and a smattering of witchiness. There's not a whole of witchy goings on as this the prequel to the Stacy Justice series and that's the point, it's like a big introduction to Stacy's journey to becoming the Seeker of Justice. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to those who; like cozy witch mysteries, fancy trying something different and want to be entertained. This book will be good either to start off with reading the whole series or wherever along you are, it fits in. Enjoy x
I have to admit that I didn't get very far in this book. I read the first two books in the series and loved them so I decided to read the prequel. Big mistake. There were six pages of dialogue that the author copied straight from book two. This was not a flashback but presented as a different situation as in the second book. I have not been able to read any more of this book due to the sheer laziness of the author. It ruined any credibility she had because now I wonder if there are any other parts that she's copied from other books. I probably never would have caught it had I not just finished reading the second book. Plan to eventually read book three but I need to take a break from this author and this series.
What do you do when you decide you don't want to join the family practice? -- Of Witchcraft that is! Well you run away to a big city in NY and become a journalist. But when the Grandfather that raised you becomes ill-- you return to your hometown of Amethyst to be with him. Only to find out things and people are not what or who they seem and you are not really sure you can give up the family practice! A fun read-- makes me want more!
A cute series that is a nice easy read. Small town girl loving in the city comes home when grandparent takes ill...a similar storyline to other series however that does not take away from the book. I liked the story, I liked the different characters and reading their different stories. I liked the use of the humour and it had me laughing out loud at times. I liked the different characters and look forward to seeing what the different characters get up to next. x
Another cute series to add to my shelves! Small town girl loving in the city comes home when grandparent takes ill...that I have read before. That said, what comes after with the twists and the interwoven stories of other characters is just great and adds a richness to the book. I have two books I need to read before I read the next one in this series (Opal Fire) but I will read it!
Huh, so apparently, many read the first book then went back to this one whereas I started with this one. Either way, this is the story of when Stacy goes back home after hearing about her grandfather being sick. What she doesn't know and doesn't learn until she gets back is that her grandfather was poisoned. After the death of her father, and her mother took off, Stacy was raised by her grandmother, grandfather, and great aunts. The great aunts who practiced magic. As soon as she was able, she left Amethyst to become a reporter in Chicago, and to get away from the memories of her parents. Coming back, her grandmother and great aunts expect her to pick up where she left off and to help solve the mystery of who poisoned Oscar. To motivate her, Birdie, her grandmother confesses to the attempted murder. With the help of her cousin and the hot new police chief, she does exactly that, and nearly gets killed herself.
Living in a small town has both its perks, like Birdie being able to come and go from her jail cell, and downfalls, like being the new chief, an outsider trying to get the towns folks to talk to him. Where everyone knows everyone's history. Where her ex is still in town and hoping for another shot with her. Without any other recourse, Stacy does as Birdie expects. Stacy eventually uncovers a few skeletons, helps catch a murderer, and solve another mystery while she is at it. To further complicate things, she's got two hot guys interested in her, and ultimately a decision to make on whether or not she'll stay once everything is all resolved.
The story was well written and a full length book vs. a novella which is unusual for a prequel. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this one. Wacky as some of the characters were.
I read this on impulse when it popped up on my kindle. I feel like this book had some promise. It has quirky characters and silly story lines and an interesting premise. It had a little bit of a Stephanie Plum vibe to it. If you add to that a hefty dose of urban fantasy and harlequin romance with most of the graphic naked parts taken out, you'll have this book.
Unfortunately, romance is definitely NOT my go to genre. I can usually deal with some lovey dovey romancy bits, but what killed the book for me was the male characters. The love interests are presented as man candy with very little to actually recommend them as humans. They are apparently so hot that the lead cannot help but insta-want them. I'd have liked this more if the author had taken some time to develop the men's characters into something other than hot slabs of man meat before introducing all the drooling over their bodies. I feel like the world is working hard to overcome the sexualization of women, but this book is all like Meh... Whatever, go sexualize the smokin' hot man bodies! They are men, so it's ok? This might be the reason why romance isn't my go to genre...
Despite my issues with the characterization, there was a lot of lighthearted silliness and fun happening in this book, which makes it nice for some light escapism reading. I just didn't feel a call to read any of the rest of the series. Although, if I am ever stuck in the airport with nothing better to do... who knows? I might.
This is a “cozy mystery,” really a romance-mystery. What it should have been is a novel about magic. Somehow, the three genres don’t mix here. It’s an okay novel to fall asleep by, but not engaging. Much of it reads like the laundry-tub scene in The Accidental Tourist; one farcical mishap piled on another. The gemstone analogy (amethyst, opal) is a bit twee and doesn’t accomplish anything. Throughout, the writer can’t manage to use the past perfect, as in, “he had done ——- before doing ———.” It makes the speaker sound ignorant, each time losing more of your attention and sympathy. The story can’t decide whether Stacy starts out believing in, or practicing, witchcraft. At first, she seems to have rejected “all that nonsense.” So when she decides to embrace it, the reader wonders why she hasn’t been using it all along, to solve the mystery and save her grandparents. A better “Book One” would have started with a “normal” Stacy occasionally puzzled by her powers, then beginning to learn them, as do Jane (in Half Magic) and the young Harry Potter.

Stacy's grandmother and aunts are unique and funny. Stacy has to take over the Inn that her grandmother had been running and it's funny what the aunts do with the guests.
This book has a lot of humor and the characters blend well in the story. I was very surprised at the ending and read the last 8 chapters quickly. If you want a light hearted mystery with action, this is good after reading a hard-boiled thriller.
If you like clean paranormal mysteries, this is for you!
I get so tickled when I discover a series that has apparently been hiding from me and fall head over heels deeply in like with the characters and the writing style. For those that follow my reviews, which I admit it has been a while since I reviewed I have to say this is a fun book and the situations and descriptions will keep you going as it is fast paced. The setting is an idyllic town or small community setting and while there is magic mentioned it isn't so heavy that you get burned out. I tend to read many genres and many of them are dark and heavy while this gem of a story has more light than darkness and would be a great addition to any family friendly library. I don't do rehashing of the story since the author always tells it better than I ever could but will do this.... If you need a palette cleanser this is a great one, I am quite looking forward to the next in the series.
Stacy received a call that her Gramps was in the hospital so she raced back to Amethyst to be with him …. And that’s when the adventure begins. Told with humor and plot twists and turns, the author draws one into the story of attempted murder, a family of witches (that Stacy doesn’t want to join in the magic again), her Grand Birdie and aunts Lilly (a little, maybe a lot crazy), and Fiona who have a bed and breakfast. Best friend Cinnamon who owns a bar and has no problem saying what she thinks and kicking a.. if necessary. And Stacy who is trying to put pieces of the puzzle of her Gramps attempted murder together is learning to listen to her instincts & follow the pieces of magic (with Birdie’s guidance, of course). Highly recommend this series and this author!
I normally give books that use this ridiculous plot device a 1-star rating. However, I really liked this book in spite of it. The characters are interesting and well-developed. The mystery was good with a couple of solid red herrings thrown in. The author did a good job with the world building.
I loved Thor. What a goofy giant dog, lol. Good boy!
I'm not fond of relatives being all secretive, it's ridiculous. Just get to the point, tell the truth, and move forward.
3-stars because of the stupid love triangle and the relatives with their secrets.
I won't be reading any other books in this series due to the love triangle being carried so far into it. Pity.
A thrilling, funny, and all around entertaining ride!
This book kept popping up on my recommended reading list on my Kindle, so I decided to finally give it a read.
I am very glad I did.
"Amethyst Witch" is an entertaining read, filled with humor, action, and plenty of potential romance (I see some seriously slow burning romances coming out of this story, and I can't wait to read them). The characters are well fleshed out and extremely likable. There are twists and turns that are sure to fool many readers in a very delightful way.
I really enjoyed this book, and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes their stories witchy and fun!
