The Bleed is attacking on several fronts and through different realities at once. The survivors of numerous battles are brought together through a series of ancient clockwork rooms, and their individual experiences combine to paint a picture of a multiverse on the brink of total annihilation. Gods and mortals fight alongside each other on the streets and among the stars, struggling to hold back the armies of demons doing the bidding of The Bleed.
Whole worlds are lost. Others are sacrificed. Thousands are ready to fight, but millions more offer themselves up to the gods, praying that 'THE RAPTURE' will bring them salvation. In the midst of it all just a handful of survivors scattered across the multiverse are aware of what's at stake and how they can avoid Armageddon. But with the odds stacked against them and impossible distances between them, will thy be able to come together and turn the bloody tide against The Bleed?
David Moody first released Hater in 2006, and without an agent, succeeded in selling the film rights for the novel to Mark Johnson (producer, Breaking Bad) and Guillermo Del Toro (director, The Shape of Water, Pan's Labyrinth). Moody's seminal zombie novel Autumn was made into a movie starring Dexter Fletcher and David Carradine. He has an unhealthy fascination with the end of the world and likes to write books about ordinary folks going through absolute hell. With the publication of continuing Hater and Autumn stories, Moody has cemented his reputation as a writer of suspense-laced SF/horror, and "farther out" genre books of all description.
What is the sum total when 3 of the best authors writing in the genre collaborate? = One EPIC W-O-W (Do the math). Tufo, Philbrook and Moody hit it out of the park with 'Rupture', (The Bleed, #1) - A phenomenal heart racing, nonstop run for your life horror, filled with strong, interesting, and dynamic characters - easily becoming immersed and invested in their plights and journeys. Not for those with weak stomachs - just the way I like it.... Hats off to Scott Aiello for his fantastic narration. Will be close eye out for the next book in the series - 'Rapture', (The Bleed, #2).
Rupture (The Bleed #1) by David Moody, Chris Philbrook, and Mark Tufo What an awesome cover, it's what caught my eye! Wow! The story is about as good! There is three separate stories going on about the same problem, the Bleed. The Bleed is the flesh eating creatures or demons that are taking over the multiverse. Gods literally can't, or won't in some cases, stop it. Three authors tell three stories and I know they will converge and boy will that be something! The characters are very intriguing! A brother and sister that are half gods. A half god gal that is destined to save her world but doesn't know anything about her lineage until the Bleed comes. A group of people on the moon but find they are not alone. Three different places. If Bleed blood gets on you, you are changed into one, then your body changes into something grotesque. Great suspense, high tension, action packed, fast paced, thrills, and more. I can't wait for book 2!
It does start off kind of slow like a train as it struggles to find the steam to get out the station, but once it picks up speed it has you firmly engrossed in the characters as you start to notice little correlations in between the 3 authors stories and it really started to make me think of Dr. Who, especially with the wonderful cliffhanger that all 3 authors punished us with. I truly hate cliffhangers unless the next book is to be released rather soon because you've built up all you emotions into this book aaaand it's like they just slammed the door in your face. I just hope book 2 is not going to be a long wait.
What do you get when you have 3 great horror authors writing a book together? You get a wild roller coaster ride with Gods, half Gods, demons and the big bad The Bleed. There are 3 different stories of people fighting for survival, taking you on a non-stop, action packed tale with awesome characters that keep you on the edge of your seat, swiping as quickly as you can to see what happens next. Looking forward to the next book in this awesome series. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a great tale.
Absolutely great book, it's got me hooked and I'm so keen for the next issue in this series!!
Huge fan of all Mark's work and I'm also a fan of Chris' "Adrian's Undead Diary" series so this has been a great introduction to David's work, I look forward to reading more from these three authors (individually and as they continue to collaborate).
The Bleed: Rupture is the beginning of something great, for sure. If the combined efforts of Mark Tufo, Chris Philbrook, and the always fantastic David Moody maintain this same sort of quality moving forward, this series will be spectacular. The three authors involved in this project successfully combine body horror, fantasy, and science fiction into something greater than the sum of the individual components. The individual stories meld together, creating a sweeping, epic tale of a multiverse in jeopardy as a race of gods and their halfbreed offspring fight a battle of attrition on one world after another against an unstoppable, all-consuming enemy, The Bleed. We get to experience the disastrous consequences of two gods with conflicting goals in modern-day London as Jenny struggles to come to terms with her heritage. We join the members of a lunar colony as their settlement faces catastrophic collapse. The small handful of survivors learn that there are secrets on the moon no one could have expected. And finally, we follow Arridon and Thistle, two half-gods, as their world approaches a horrifying end at the hands of a monstrous force that seeks to devour everything living and dead in absolute domination. As the stories tie together at the end in the most unexpected ways, I couldn't help but want to move immediately on to the second volume in the series. The narration provided by Scott Aiello for the audiobook edition is fantastic. He tackles the cast of characters and their various accents better than many audiobook narrators I've heard.
My Opinion: So far, very good book. I’m not a fan of high contrasts between story settings as is here, but it worked just well enough to let me get through it. Worse began when hints appeared on these three settings being in different, but firmly connected universes, or rather, realities, meaning there’ll be a union at some point, and I’m just not here for it. No character was likeable either, so it’s all story-driven, and neither story is all that interesting. The best part that kept me going remains The Bleed itself: a sort of twisted life form that intends to consume all. Through brute force and insidious tricks, it has destroyed many worlds, timelines, and universes, and has now turned against Earth. I want to learn more about this, so I will read the next book too.
A 3 out of 5, read it, audiobook was awful, hard to feel scared of a creature that speaks in that tone.
I love this story! I love the characters all trying to escape from wherever they are London, the Moon, Earth, Etc from the Bleed. The different POV’s and the ending was cool! I knew where the end was going but I never knew what was going to happen next! I also love that Moody, Philbrook and Tufo some of my fav authors collaborated and I could almost sense each one of them in the crafting of the story, while I was reading.. from the smart alex retorts, the plot, and the characters. Can’t wait to read the whole series and see what these great minds come up with!
Ok, so I wanted to like this just because 2 of the 3 are some of my favorite authors. Sorry Mr Moody, I just haven't read any of your books yet but I will fix that in a moment. But it turns out that I can't like it just coz of the authors but because it's actually a good book. However, I must say (and trying to do this without any real spoilers) a giant WHAT on the face of the WHAT? No, nope, nuh uh, stop it. Whoever wrote that, just stop. I can't handle those damn things when they are life sized. A little more ick factor to the monsters than what I usually read but you sort of needed that to happen to explain just how bad the bad guys are. Lots of locales, interesting bad guys and even the snark that makes a story great. (I loved how some characters carried some snark over from the author's other series.) So yes, this is a book you should add to your Tufo, Philbrook and Moody collections.
Ok so I finally finished it. This was a great story, but the narrator and if I'm honest the writing for a lot of the London parts were BAD. I got 3 hours in and just decided I would rather skip the London parts than stop reading all together.
The character (in London) is unappealing and wrapped in dry English humor. That whole section of the book felt like they were trying invoke a Good Omens/Doctor Who vibe and missed the mark by a lot. Like seriously it was SO TERRIBLE. The narrator offended my ears trying to do British accents and the 'dont care about anything punk girl' trope has been done too many damn times. Like seriously, tell whoever wrote that storyline to get on the level of the other two authors.
Reason and House Frost were awesome and definitely the best choice to show us THE BLEED through. An intriguing, compelling villain like THE BLEED is a real treat and has heavy Deadite/The Evil vibes. (Thinking this was you, Tufo)
The tension between Sandra and Mattie on the moon was great too. I honestly think Tufo wrote just Sandra here because she reminds me so much of Duneuax. It was kind of shitty to kill off the first LGBT character I've ever read in this genre, but they definitely laid the groundwork for him being the weakest link, so at least it's well written and believable.
All in all it has a ton of potential, but if you keep the same narrator I'm probably not going to pick up anything else in the series.
British girls story should be slightly easier to get through with Mattie there but I cant listen to entire chapters of that HORRID accent attempt. if you have to keep the narrator maybe just ask him to stop trying for the accent, it really does the story a big disservice.

I'm a big fan of Mark Tufo and so I love his stories. I wasn't quite sure how I would like the combination of all three authors but honestly I couldn't tell who was writing. This just made it even better. The complete cohesiveness of their writing styles. I also wasn't sure how I would enjoy the different timelines for the story (I believe I saw another reviewer find this confusing). This is why you got to give it a go for yourself. I had no problem following the various story lines and I listened to the audiobook which was done great btw! A very interesting tale of danger infiltrating over time and space which draws you in and you can't help but want to know what's next. This is a great story and I look forward to the next installment!
I must admit that I was looking forward to this book because Chris and Mark have given me hours of pleasure. Get your minds out of the gutter, reading pleasure. They definitely didn't disappoint me with The Bleed. These characters feel real and I am invested in them, now. Do read this, it is worth it. Besides, most of us are on lockdown. If we weren't,I would be begging for a f2f hangout with these gods of writing. I know I would laugh for hours. Pencil me in, guys? I'll make a roadtrip!
I already love Mark Tufo and Chris Philbrook so I enjoyed reading the Bleed and trying to pick out which parts they wrote. Tufo’s signature cliff hangers were absolutely there.
I was a little unsure if I would enjoy this book as it’s pretty different from their normal works but the funny quips and enjoyable characters that you love or love to hate just make the book a fun and kinda creepy read.
I am not as familiar with Moody but whichever parts he wrote weren’t bad either.
Rupture is a fast-paced novel that combines many genres into a fun, multiversal adventure. The story follows tree different narrative threads, and many fascinating characters as they try to survive a reality destroying enemy known as the Bleed.
Three authors came together to write this and it’s impressive how seamless the book is, it doesn’t feel disjointed at all. The story picks up speed as it progresses and the stakes are raised, the plot also becomes more interconnected until a gripping cliff-hanger ending. Due to this ending I’m off to jump straight into the second book!
This was a really fun and fresh apocalyptic tale. Three different plot lines, all based on the impact of a transdimensional power on the lives of regular schmucks. OK, there's MUCH more to it than that, but I don't want to give spoilers. I will say, though, that I loved the action, the pacing, and the conclusion - which forced me to immediately move into book 2. Great concept, and great story. Why the four stars? The character work is a little shallow and one note - not much complexity in many of these characters. But as instruments of telling the narrative, it's just a hoot.
I am a huge Mark Tufo fan so I really hate that I hate this book even though I know it wasn't all him. I don't see any way to leave more than 1 star. I gave up on it within a couple of hours. I don't even know how to leave a meaningful review. I didn't like anything about the plot or any of the characters. There was maybe some kind of potential for a story in any of the 3 major plots but jumping among them was a mess.
To be perfectly honest it took me a minute to really get into The Bleed, but once I did, I was absolutely hooked. I couldn't put it down. The Bleed grabbed me and held me tight right up to the very last word. Such a great collaboration by 3 of my favorite authors. Thank you guys, you're all amazing. Cannot wait for book 2!!!!
Garbage. It is hard to express in words the lameness and nonsense of this book. This the 2nd audible exclusive that I've listened to that is nothing but a waste of time. I would say avoid Audible exclusives as they seem to have no quality control over the tripe they are putting out with really good narrators.
The idea is really good, likely inspired from Lovecraft or Halo and a few other popular science fiction tropes. I'm not a fan of the humor, and the characters were pretty annoying, except for the bleed, which was the best part of the book. I won't be reading anymore in the series and I would not recommend this to anyone.
However I laughed and cried and enjoyed the majority of this book. I love books that force me to invest in characters. I love having audible as an add on with a good narrator as I have found myself completely immersed!
Tufo writes well, i love the fallout series but i missed the black humor and charismatic caracter you find in Mike Talbot, this story didnt catch my interest in the same way
This is an interesting take on battling the same demon in multiple universes. The bleed wants to end everyone from gods to everyday people. The bleed seems to come out of nowhere. It’s an intense and unbelievable thing to go up against.
Let me tell you! what a fascinating "horrible" little number this is. the descriptions give such a vivid imagination to the story being told by these 3 brilliant authors. I'm invested and on to book 2 now. definitely recommend!
