“Do not come here. We are all doomed.” The words haunt Henry Chapelton as he braves the unwelcoming waters of the Austral sea, heading toward Antarctica to save Captain Ernst Land and his ill-fated crew. What’s supposed to be a rescue mission quickly turns into a fight for survival, a battle against Nature, the elements, and forces of unknown origins.Something has been unearthed in this desert of ice and madness. Something terrible and ancient, living within the guts of Mount Terror. A threat to Chapelton’s crew who might never come back from this voyage.

A brilliant short read to end out the month. Set in the mid 1930’s, Henry Chapelton embarks on a mission to rescue Captain Ernst Land after hearing the man’s last distressed communication. This story is beautifully written and the pace gets your heart racing right along side Henry’s. Several descriptions made me shiver alongside the characters and reading this was, to use Giles’ word from this book, an ‘orgy of madness.’
* It’s strange that sometimes only the most awful and gruesome things have the power to ignite out motivation and push us to work our hardest.
The fun-loving, beautiful trolls at Black Hare Press from the wonderful land of Oz have supplied me with a magnificent box of amazing literary horrors. The lovely 'Mount Terror' by E.L. Giles was one of them.
An expedition to the far ends of the world gone terribly wrong. A mysterious distress signal and a rescue party assembled to bring them back. But what lies hidden in the ice might ultimately be their doom. What starts as a rescue mission will soon end up being a struggle for survival.
Follow Henry Chapelton as he braves the unwelcoming waters of the Austral sea, heading toward Antarctica to save Captain Ernst Land and his ill-fated crew. Enter a fight for survival, a battle against Nature, the elements, and forces of unknown origins.
With strong 'The Terror' and 'The Thing' vibes, this short, sharp, horror/mystery/adventure will freeze your bones and stop your heart.
Scary, delicious and satisfying. It makes you feel like you embark on an amazing adventure but with a questionable return route.
A fascinating story and a satisfying quick read. Perfect for a night in with your hot blanket, snacks and favorite beverage.
