Sabine and her friends have finally escaped the fighting arena in Karuu, each having grown much stronger from their experiences. Now, they must escape Karuu itself, in the midst of growing unrest, and hope that they are strong enough to face the challenges ahead.

In a distant, monster-infested land, there is an ancient structure known as the Spire, a place that is said to contain great treasures and lost Fey knowledge. Countless adventurers have died trying to reach the Spire, yet Sabine and her friends must take this dangerous journey because the Spire may also hold the secret of how to return home. Between monsters, the cursed, old enemies and new, just reaching the Spire may be impossible.

This story contains graphic violence, adult language, gender change, and litRPG/Gamelit elements.

The Too the Core series is a gritty survival, portal fantasy (isekai), LitRPG style tale. It has a mix of gritty survival action, intriguing worldbuilding, and a diverse bunch of characters who feel realistic and are, mostly, easy to sympathise with and root for as they struggle to grow stronger and survive in this fairly brutal new world. The writing is pretty compelling and even when the story bounced between slice of life moments and darker, gritty, survival/action moment it always held my attention and felt like it got the balance between hope and despair just right!

This third instalment of the series had the feel of a fairly satisfying climax to what has been an interesting and compelling tale. The story picked up in the aftermath of the events at the end of the second book. Sabine and her friends had escaped slavey still had to hide and find a way out of a Karuu that suddenly found itself in the midst of a slave revolt. The second half of the story focused on a Tower Climb that revealed a lot of secrets about the Fey and the tech that brought the humans to this world.

It was fairly compelling stuff. The characters are easy to root for and this remains an interesting and intriguing world.

The story is gritty but never too bleak. I like that balance.

The ending of this one was satisfying and felt like a solid conclusion to the story arc we have had over the course of all three books in the series.

All in all I’ve really enjoyed this weird, but fun, portal fantasy with its LitRPG mechanics. I hope the author returns to writing more of this series in the future.

Rating: 4 stars.

Audio Note: With no official audiobook I went with the Eleven Reader text-speech-app. Went with the “Top Narrator VO PRO” voice and it was pretty good. This is excellent text-to-speech software. Though it goes without saying that text-to-speech is no match in quality for real professional narration.

A moral climax

I was surprised at a few of the twists and turns in this one, but the conundrum at the end now that was heavy. I came across this series by accident and took a chance, I am now glad that I have and would recommend the series wholeheartedly.

A unique story and a great ride

Well thought out and written. A little slow when it was laying out all the gamer stuff. However, after that the book moved at a good pace. Good character development and a little romance thrown in with all the battles.

An enjoyable ending to Sabine's story

Sabine and her crew make their way to the Spire, mentioned in passing in book one. Is it their hoped for trip home, or is a greater treat in store?

I have been reading Morpheus' works for literally decades now, and this story ranks in their best. I am glad it was brought to Amazon to allow for a greater readship, and hope that others follow.
