A Haven in the Keys

Rate this book
After the storm, life, love, and the concept of home has to be reimagined…
A new life begins on Coconut Key when Beck and her family and friends are blessed with a beachfront sanctuary after the hurricane damages their side of the island. Although it is a haven where life and love carries on in an unforeseen way, they face a new set of challenges.

As Beck rebuilds Coquina House into a beachfront B&B and finds safety in a new romance, her daughter, Savannah, learns how to be a mother…and lands in a relationship unlike any she’s ever known. Three new arrivals add yet another branch to the family tree, bringing big surprises, fresh ideas, and precious bonds. Both Beck and her closest friend, Jessie, have to reimagine their businesses…and lives.

Although there are forces working against them and an unseen nemesis threatens to blow their plans to smithereens, the strength, resolve, and love that this group has formed never wavers. In this haven, they learn that love really does conquer all.

I am still riveted to every page! Things get a little dicey as we are recovering from Hurricane Dylan. Plenty of work for Kenny and his crew! We have a new nemesis in the re-opening of Chuck’s, small town politics at its finest. Callie comes to town just in time to squash that threat. Savannah is doing great as a new mom, and new faces join the family. Beck is holding it all together as she has in every book so far. I hope we get to see her happiness in the future. I am enjoying these books and this family; I never want them to end!

Thank you to Booksprout and the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

A Haven for Readers!

Beck must forgive her ex-husband. Jessie must forgive her rival, Germaine. Callie must forgive her professor/assault-er (while prosecuting him). Kenny must forgive God. And Savannah must forgive Nick, her beloved baby daddy, for going back to LA. This book, which twists more than the 3 earlier Coconut Key books, should be called Forgiveness in the Keys!
Kenny, having committed to renovating Coquina House after the hurricane, doesn't know how to handle Beck's news that Maggie, the interior designer who mocked his resistance to casual sex, will help with the redesign. Meanwhile, Jessie heads to Charleston to help her much younger half-sister Heather and 2 teenage kids recover from the death of her husband, and Jessie's brother Josh furthers his budding romance with Beck, Jessie's best friend and Kenny's mom. But there's trouble ahead...
At the town council meeting, Guy (chair and Germaine's son) says she can't reopen without going through piles of red tape and can't rename her coffee shop Coquina Cafe because it's too similar to Coconut Cafe--his mom's shop. It looks like Coquina Cafe won't be open for its Grand Reopening, but Kenny and the rest of the gang volunteer their time, talents, and influence to get everything done by the planned date. Even Callie, Beck's third daughter, helps. (Callie ends up in town after dropping out of college and giving up her lifelong ambition to be a lawyer, a judge, and ultimately a Supreme Court justice. Older sister Savannah ferrets out the cause: Callie was targeted by a professor whose wife is a powerful judge, and at a dinner party he trapped her and felt her up. His wife walked in, blamed Callie, and changed her grades to ruin her GPA. Callie was so devastated she left Emory and came to Coconut Key, too depressed to consider pressing charges. Savannah explodes and says she should bury the attacker and his "shrew wife". Callie
agrees--and announces, to Beck's chagrin, that her father will represent her.
Back at the restaurant, rival chef Tag drops his former swagger and admits he wanted to buy Chuck's to help Jessie out financially. They begin their own "silver romance", and he accompanies her to the sham of a town council meeting. So do Beck, Kenny, Ava, Heather, her kids Maddie and Marc, Savannah (Nick takes baby Dylan out to avoid disruption), Peyton, and Beck. Guy, council chair and Germaine's son, says Jessie must change her cafe's name because it's too close to his mom's cafe name. Jessie's brother Josh, a master woodworker, is even told he can't make a sign for the new cafe until his sketch is approved by the Beautification Committee...chaired by Germaine! Everyone (except the chair and his mother) leaves indignant, but Callie recognizes a flaw in Guy's interpretation of the naming statute and notifies Guy that he's not only wrong about Jessie's renaming, but his mother needs to rename her cafe due to the existence of another Coconut Cafe, founded in the '60s. Guy is cowed, he caves--and Callie remembers her skill in court and love of the law!
Crowds enjoy Reopening Day (Jessie's coffee is much better than Germaine's)...but a suspected gas leak forces everyone to evacuate. The fire department rules it an accident, but Jessie suspects foul play by an "inspector" who arrived after hours, claimed she couldn't open until he approved her changes, and left 10 minutes later--not nearly enough time to inspect anything, but plenty of time to sabotage the site of the leak. Like Callie, she doesn't want to reopen, but the gang talks her into it--especially Marc, who
hasn't said much since his arrival with his mom, sister, and half-aunt. Jessie decides to reopen after all, and the crowds return thanks to a video that privacy-obsessed Nick sacrificially posted advertising the cafe.
The biggest transformation, I think, is the return of Kenny's faith. Heather, who's close to his age and gorgeous, wants to go to church, something her late atheist husband forbade. He takes her and is surprised by her enthusiastic response to the sermon. He hasn't been to church since his wife and son died in a fire while he was at a church function with Ava. He blamed God--still does, but he begins to think there might be more than a divine whim behind his loss.
The theme of forgiveness threads through multiple storylines, along with the idea of "haven" as not only the name of the house where they're all staying while storm cleanup continues, but also a place of safety and rest. Callie and Heather, Maddie, and Marc all decide to stay on Coconut Key, and while Nick's video forces him back to LA, he hates to leave and Savannah hopes he'll soon return to her and Dylan. Speaking of returning, at the end a mysterious man walks off the beach and turns out to be someone from Jessie's past...another twist to untangle in book 5!
Hope Holloway has done it again--sympathetic characters navigate terrible situations with family and friends! Very highly recommended!

More than a romantic novel

I quit reading romance novels years ago but my love of the Key's roped me into reading the first in this series about Coconut Key. I was pleasantly surprised to find I kept reading until I just finished #4 and buying #5! Something about Hope Holloways style keeps me turning pages! (Figuratively speaking on my Kindle).
The character development of so so many is amazing. Don't know how she keeps up! But its quite interesting. I'd like to compliment and thank her for writing about women who are 'more mature' although every age group is included. It begins with Beck who just found out her husband of 35 years wants a divorce and is having a fling with his female law partner. She is 55 in book 1. Its truly inspiring and quite lucky how she rallies and reimagines her life! A few times during the 4 books I've consumed I felt things were too good to be true but there is tragedy and sadness in the story too. I can think of only one author who has had me on a reading jag like this! I'm sure I will read this entire series. Holloways knowledge of local, county and state laws of Florida, the restaurant business and other issues seem well researched as well. There is a tasteful amount of Christian themes which I love. Her knowledge of the Keys is real. I just wish I could be there to snorkle, my favorite sport!! Thank you for this lovely series Hope Holloway!! I love it! Kathie 🦀🐟🐦🐥🌊🛐🛐 See you in Islamorado 😉😁. On to #6!!

After the Hurricane they are all staying with Nick, Savanah’s baby daddy. While the repairs are done to the Inn.
Heather Jessie’s sister who’s husband just died comes to Keys for rest the kids hit it off with Ava and Kenny feels the need to help Heather as he’s been through it. He takes her to church which he’d gotten away from since the death of he’s wife. The starts to feel for her.
Savannah and Nick goes on their first date, limo, private room. He begins to stay in her room to take care of baby. But no nookie. He has to go back to LA to handle things, Savannah thinks he won’t come back.
Jessie gets back and decides to reopen her restaurant as a cafe, like Heathers. They redo the decor but the towns meeting they run into problems they are trying to not let her. They open then there is a gas leek. Everyone has to run out. Devastated they do a re reopening no one is there so Nick goes on instagram and post he’s there and then they are packed.
They hang new sign and Jessie sees someone that looks familiar he come to them as they are hanging new sign…it’s her husband she thought was dead with a child.

Awesome Book!!!

I have really enjoyed reading this Series!!!! Including A Haven in the Keys(Coconut Key Book 4)!!!! All about Becca Foster and all her girls, her son and his daughter & her mother. In this book Hurricane Dylan bored down on the south, it did not hit them but the surge did get them hitting there side of Coconut Key the hardest. The future B&B lost their third floor and damaged the second floor. So everybody had to find alternate housing! Also baby Dylan was born right in the middle of the storm, he’s three weeks early a little small, but has his health and all his limbs. His Dad Nick Frey arrived right after his birth and bought the Haven residence on the other side of Coconut Key, and the entire family was able too move in comfortable. Read this series and fall in love with this family and this location!!! I can’t wait to read book 5!!!

Excellent!

My 3 star rating is given because each book ends with a cliffhanger! Also, series was advertised as a set of 6 books. After book 3, I found I had to wait for the last 3 books! I think this is unfair to readers and I do not know if I will trust this author again. The stories and characters are wonderful but I expect a book to be a complete story, even as the series continues with same characters and changing events! I have encountered this before and am losing faith in authors. I hate cliffhangers and false " advertising". Do not offer additional books in a series until they are physically available! Unfortunately, I am developing a list of authors who do this ad will include it in my review!

Good series, but…..

I have really enjoyed this series, but it’s getting a little bit too extended. Seriously, how many secret relationships can a family have? It’s getting repetitious. Also, as it’s a series and each book is not complete on its own, the rehashing of the previous book is getting a bit old. I was eagerly reading each book, but I’m into book 5 a few chapters now and I’m finding myself skimming. I’m a little dismayed there are 7 in the series. I will probably finish the set, i think…. But whereas i was thinking of buying a hard copy of the set, I’m glad i held off. Definitely won’t now. I’m also finding more punctuation and spelling errors. As of the author is rushing to get these out too fast.

Wow! This is book 4 in the Coconut Key series and I’m speechless. It’s so good! Family, friends, drama, love, relationships, and mystery all wrapped up in a fast-paced and heartwarming story. Beck and Kenny move forward with renovations to the Coquina House B&B, Jessie makes decisions about her restaurants, a few more family members arrive in Coconut Key, relationships evolve, change, and grow. The story is captivating and enchanting, and I couldn’t put it down! The series gets better and better and I’ll be impatiently waiting for the next book!

I've been really enjoying this series, but this book just seemed to drag on and on. It was slow and repetitive. And I swear, there were several chapters with just two people debating about going to church or not, and it was just laid on kind of thick. I skimmed this book instead of just reading it like I did the others. And I HATE cliffhangers.

It was written well, though!!! And I feel like I know these people pretty well. I hope the next book resolves Becks relationship, or lack thereof, with Josh. I also hope Savannah gets her head out of her bum and grabs and holds onto the guy.

I knew he wasn't dead! Poor Jessie it's like she cannot get a break. It is enough to give you a heart attack.
I am enjoying this series. The plot is fantastic and the characters, don't let me start on Nick and Savannah and baby Frye.
I fully expect the ex-to join the cast at Coquina Cove and for Nick's mother to challenge Savannah for her next meal ticket..But Lovely will win the day for her family.
I cannot wait to read the next book in this series.
I definitely recommend this series.

Hope Holloway......What are you doing to us readers. Leave us hanging. Oh my goodness the end has us on the edge of our seats. Wanting more. Now we have to wait till next month for the next book. 😥
This series of books are what this world needs right now. Families and friends sticking together through the good, the bad and the evil. Survival to get past grief and heartache. Finding ways to forgive and succeed.

I’m still not sure why I love this series as much as I do. It’s not my “normal” read but once I start I can’t put it down. I’m immersed in the lives of Beck, Savannah, Kenny, and everyone. It’s fascinating to find out each person deals with the unexpected realities of life. From losing a spouse, losing a child, divorce, unexpected pregnancies, life changes, and handling a natural disaster and the aftermath. I just want to find out more! Can’t wait for the installment.

So much to love about this book and that makes it hard to put it down once you start reading. The characters are easy to relate too, they're realistic and they're enjoyable. The location is described so well, you feel like you're right there, a perfect escape from every day life for a small amount of time. The story flows smoothly and holds your attention until you reach the end.

UM.... WHAT? Shocker, much?! This author leaves me stunned and wanting more with every ending. How did I finish book 4 already? I feel like I’ve moved into Coconut Key myself. I’ve grown to know and love these characters. I’m invested and they feel like friends. SO MUCH has happened since the first book. The drama is endless and with every book I finish, I’m left NEEDING to figure out what’s going to happen next. I dread the day that I have to say goodbye to this gang!

Love this series

I’m not sure how many more people that town can hold, but I’m hoping a lot because I don’t want this series to end! Once again, I was reeled in and captivated from start to finish. These are easy, fun beach reads where you feel you know the characters, who are all unique. I loved the addition of faith in this book, and while there are a lot of happy endings there are also hardships, lest you think it’s all a bit too perfect. On to the next book in the series!

location, location, location.

It’s been so cold I have been imagining myself on a beach with warm waves and sweet drinks. This author gives you vivid visuals and a steady developing storyline with delightful characters. I prefer books with mature characters because being young is in my rear view mirror. Beck, Lovely, Jessica are women of a certain age still working out life’s problems. I have already downloaded #5.

Beyond Excellent!!!!

This whole series so far has been fantastic!! I think I like this book the very best of the ones I have read, yet. The whole entire book was one of Hope Hallway best so far!
This one continued on with the Foster family, extended family and their best friends. It is a wonderful book of a mother's love thru three generations all living together. Now I have not made this sound to exciting but it was and the ending was explosive! A real Must Read!

The author did a really good job with this series of books. I listened to them all on Audible and it was fun to lose myself in the ocean setting. The characters were wonderful and well developed, the story was interesting. The only thing I didn't care for was that she had to start all over again with each book and bring the reader up to speed, so to speak, in case they hadn't read the last book. It was a bit tiring, but she did handle the job with talent and grace.

Fun, Captivating and Mysterious

Oh my gosh…..such a great book!! You will not be disappointed. You won’t want to put it down. Family oriented with clean romance. This book is about family and friends bonding together and navigating everything life throws at them. There are lots of surprises along the way and a cliff hanger ending. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

Beck and her family and friends continue to grow and expand in Coconut Key. Savannah and Nick's time together getting to know each other better and spend time with their son. Now, Callie has come to her mom to heal and rejuvenate. Such a great story!

Thank you for the ARC of this book. I finished it in one day. Couldn't put it down.

This is a book of recovering. Recovering from the hurricane, recovering from loss of a husband and father, opening hearts and taking leaps of faith. This book once again ends in some cliff hangers and I find myself anxiously awaiting the next Keys installment!

Another good story

I’m hooked. I’m following this series like a soap opera. Starting to feel like part of the gang. I’ve never been much on books that aren’t based in reality, but these have the perfect mixture of the fantasy and hard life. Well written book, charming characters that make you wish to be a part of their very idealistic world.

Enjoyed the read-----BUT

Never did think it right to have an author think it's okay to have a " cliffhanger " for the very last sentence in the book. Not every reader will have the opportunity to obtain the next book due to various circumstances. So that is why I will not give it 5 stars!

Just finished A Haven in the Keys. Wow!!! What a fantastic book. So much happening. A hurricane, a baby, a rebuilding, a blooming love, a death, family coming together, and the biggest shocking ending to a great book. Oh, Hope Holloway, you are one surprise after another. Absolutely love this series.

Twists and Turns

More characters and family develop in this 4th book of the series. I feel like I know these people in real life. The contemporary relationship issues are there without being 'in your face' and more importantly without being polarizing and divisive. Holliway is a wonder at both the narrative and the conversational.

oh my, I can’t put the book down.

Jessie let the time for her call to her friends in Coconut Key come and go since she’d talked to them earlier. She hadn’t had a chance to talk privately to Heather, who’d been called to the school because Marc hadn’t shown up in one of his classes in two days.

highs and lows

This book had some of my favorite parts of the series so far, it also had some of my least favorites as well.

I definitely have come to enjoy these characters and want to rush into the next book to see what happens next.

Quite a cliff hanger at the end of this one.
