I’m reading the full book and it’s a long haul. It’s a work of scholarship but also a work with a very clear and passionately expressed mission.
However, for my taste, it is a little too didactic. I find myself in chapter 6, replying under my breath, “Yes, I think I get it now, given that you made this point transparently clear in chapters 5, 4, 3, 2, and possibly 1”.
However, the material is so valuable and the evidence so well exposed that I will read the full book to the last period.
The short précis (25 pages!) is actually encouraging. I found the TV documentary a bit too lightweight and trivializing - reminded me a bit of Ira Levin’s “That Perfect Day”, which is good fun, by the way!!
