Rear Admiral Lavrov almost achieved his goal, at least that’s what it looks like. The subspace portal prototype has been successfully tested, the hypergate program has been approved by the President, and the Earth Federation has got a new ally. But the ally is weak, and he needs protection more than he can help the humans.Time is against Lavroff. He understands that the quargs have found an effective means of countering the Federation’s new weapons and are preparing a large-scale offensive.Lavroff has no doubt that the enemy will strike before the hyperportal is built.Despite a severe lack of time and misunderstanding of the top military leadership, he is preparing two operations at once - the defense of the Federation planets and a counter-attack.
And with this book I am finished. Struggling to understand the garbled translation was difficult, but adding the almost incomprehensible battle tactics has pushed me to quit while I can. I do not doubt that a good translation of this book to English from the original would provide an interesting and entertaining storyline. Unfortunately the book as presented does not and I have exhausted my interest trying to adapt to what is available.
Good solid story, needs a little more plot development.
I liked this story, and have read all the books in the series except five and beyond, there next. Its action packed and interesting, but the writing seems a little too formulaic, I do hope that gets better, but still, a good read
I have enjoyed all books in this series. I like the charters and found the world to be interesting and I couldn't stop reading these books. I look forward to reading the next book. Thanks for your hard work
Great read, love the story-line! The battles can be all consuming and I see where the author feels his mojo! With Science and engineering you could conquer the universe!
The story goes on but it seems to lose a little focus.
Again fast reading and continued character development. The plot seems to get a little more complicated and tries to do too much. Not sure I like adding more issues.
Christy MacFarlane wrote a positive review. It might be worth reading. No need for me to attempt to write what Christy has done better already.
If interested in my Goodreads experiences, please read either my review of "Dark Horse", A good story by Diener or Powers of the Earth (A ridiculous book) and comments from a Claes Rees, Jr/cgr710 (a self-identified NeoNazi). If you haven't bothered to read either, please go to another's review. Thank you.
GLORY TO UKRAINE !!!!
This series has some big ideas with regards to traveling between galaxies and alien civilizations. The big idea really is the cornerstone of science fiction. The writing features flat characters and plot weaknesses. It is still far superior to about 80% of what I discovered in Amazon's catalogue.
I have lost much of my interest in science fiction but what remains is satisfied by the streaming services. Netflix has the largest collection, a multinational library and is generally far superior to the US print product.
I found Curiosity Stream/Nebula a fine resource for educational video. At $15 USD per year, I think that it is worth a look.
I found a real community of book lovers in booktubers. I also found channels in my other interest areas on YouTube. Some favorites are.
