Four scorching-hot gods. One kickass valkyrie. Nine realms of trouble.
All I wanted was to keep my distance from the criminals I work for and get my little brother out of the hell that is our mother's house.
Then I died and woke up to four stunningly hot gods telling me I'm now a valkyrie.
Sly, sharp Loki. Jovial but ferocious Thor. Dreamily compassionate Baldur. Grim and secretive Hod.
I'm connected to all of them through a bond we barely understand. The longer I spend with them, the more my walls start to crack.
But the gods didn't summon me just for kicks. Their king is missing, and they need me to find him.
The first three valkyries they sent on the job never made it back.
More power is awakening in me than I could ever have imagined, but the gods' enemies are more devious than even they knew. It's going to take every trick in the book for me to save myself, my brother, and these divine men who're getting under my skin in the most alluring way.
Good thing I've always been a fighter.
I'm Aria Watson, and Valhalla ain't seen nothing yet.
*Their Dark Valkyrie is an action-packed, heart-wrenching urban fantasy series with Norse mythology like you've never seen it before. This set contains all four books in the series—Claimed by Gods, Bound to Gods, Falling for Gods, and Waking the Gods—as well as a brand-new 50-page bonus epilogue.*

Thor, Loki and more norse gods in a reverse-harem. Yes please!
The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: 🖤💙❤️💜 Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙 World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌏 Character development: 🙂🥰☺️😎😍 Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙 Narration type: Dual Narration
The heroine:Aria - she is a fierce young woman who grew up in the inner city with a neglectful mother and a string of her mothers often abusive boyfriends. She had an older brother that died when she was twelve and she has a young brother Petey, who is only six and still lives with her mom. She wants to eventually take her brother away from her mom and make sure he never gets hurt like she did. However, one day on her job as a courier, she is hit by a car and dies.
The Heroes:Thor, Loki, Balder and Hod - They are norse gods who are stuck on earth. They have created more than a few Valkyries with the souls of the newly dead, but each one so far has disappeared. They need a Valkyrie because they have a tether to Odin, and they are trying to find him so they can return to Asgard. They fight against monsters and dark elves who are trying to thwart their mission.
The Story: Loki has the idea to take a soul that is more of a fighter, someone who is street smart and able to take to her new life and thrive. They get Aria, who is exactly what they expect. They train her to use her new powers and inform her of their plan to find Odin. Though Aria just wants to escape and protect her brother. Hod is very wary of her and keeps a close eye on her, which he somehow can do, despite the fact that he is blind. He catches her when she tries to escape.
I liked the story and the plot of looking for Odin. You can’t go wrong with the norse gods in this day and age. I just love the Marvel versions of Thor and Loki, so it is easy to imagine these gods. I also really liked the fact that so much of the characters and the stories actually followed the mythology pretty well. Though of course, much of it did stay for this story. But I like it when you are reading, and you stop to Google something to find out how true it really is, and you find it is. Like the story of Balder and how he was killed.
Eva Chase always does a great job with world building and character development. I have enjoyed quite a few of her books in the past and you gotta love the fact that even though many of her reverse harem series are four books, she tends to always put them together in one complete series audiobook, so I don’t have to buy all four audiobooks separately. One thing really cool about this series was the fact that each of the characters had something in their past that they hadn’t gotten over, and they get put in this prison where they are each forced to face their past.
This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Aiden Snow and Samantha Cook. I love Aiden Snow’s voice; it is soft yet very deep and so sexy. He is terrific at using different voices for different characters, so is perfect for a reverse harem like this. Samantha Cook also does a great job and has a pleasant voice, which I liked. Nothing can ruin an audiobook more than just one annoying narrator.
Debating on the rating… if it weren’t for the last few chapters,l —not including the Audible epilogue (which made the ending kinda better, and spicy 🌶️)
I’m stumped. The ending was lame. Like glitter and horse shit… ya know? The epilogue was spicy and interesting, until it sharted glitter. Ew.
I adore Aria Watson, the heroine in Eva Chase’s pretty darn spectacular Their Dark Valkyrie series. She’s just the sort of kick-a** gal that is my favorite kind of character, and the fact that she has her own harem of yummy guys who are literally gods? Pure catnip. This is a heck of a fun series and totally addictive. I read (and separately reviewed) each book as it came out and I both envy and pity those who are newcomers and able to get this boxset. Envy because they won’t be forced to impatiently wait fir each book to be released, and pity because these stories are so good that it will be astoundingly hard to resist totally binge reading them and the total lack of sleep that will result. The bottom line is easy here: this boxset highly recommend.
This was a writing tragedy. The heroine fought epic monsters and gods with her trusty plastic handled pocket knife. Really? No, really. It was so poorly written it was hurtful to listen to and I was almost embarrassed for the author. The narrator, Aiden Snow, was the only reason I kept listening because his voice is so deep and soothing. Other than that the whole thing was a train wreck.
I received these stories individually as ARCs and am voluntarily leaving this review in the complete box set
Claimed by the Gods : Eva has done it again - created another amazing storyline about a world and events happening next to/within our own that humans fail to see. A thrilling tale of gods on earth (Midgard to them) and of a young woman trying to make her way in life, make ends meet and care for her brother and the major turn her life takes. I love it! From the start I was drawn into this intriguing storyline. Each character is so well defined, present, believable, and dare I say...HOT - I mean we ARE talking about Norse gods here! I can definitely get addicted...I know I may be greedy, but....MORE please!
Bound to Gods: A great installment that gives Aria more answers about her gods and herself while opening the door for new questions. In their continued quest to find Odin, their group find drama, chaos, fear, anguish, strength and love all fight to the surface. Just as Aria knows she, herself is not perfect, in learning more of their past, she discovers Balder, Thor, Hod and Loki all have a dark side and secrets they would like to keep to themselves. When and if they find Odin, will all be well, all questions answered, or has the intrigue just begun? The character development and flow of the plot make for a riveting story.! Can't wait to find out what happens next!
Falling for Gods: Eva gives us another fantastic installment in this reverse harem series. Aria's strength and backbone took no prisoners ..including Odin! I loved that she got in his face and call him out..not afraid to stand up to the gods and the Allfather.
Once again, I enjoy the author's take on Loki - usually seen as the prankster and causing trouble - but, here, he seems sometimes as lost, uncertain, and seeking...something..as we all are. Sure the mischievous elements are there, but he is so much more.
The strength of Ari's relationship with each of her gods shone through brightly. She sees and understands parts of them that they may not even realize themselves - deepening their love and commitment to each other.
But..it seems Surt is resilient and their work is anything but finished! Can't wait for the continuation!
Waking the Gods: I have truly enjoyed this series, and book#4 is not different! Throughout, Aria has been learning her new abilities and the true strength and intelligence she has always possessed. Thor, Baldur, Loki, and Hod have been by her side, encouraging and loving their Valkyrie. But that doesn't lessen her feelings of inadequacy in the presence of all the new gods showing up to aid in their battle.
Being Aria, she finds a way and the umph within herself to overcome obstacles, and show her worth, all why putting her own swing on things. And the scene when she finally is able to use and control one of her special gifts to save her heart - I was alternating between crying my eyes out and yelling " You go, girl!".
Book#4 is a great conclusion to a wonderfully entertaining series
A great value whole series box set containing a novella at the end that gives them a bit more of a finish to the story. This is a slow-burn reverse harem story which contains some explicit sexual content in places. Very enjoyable.
#1 Claimed by Gods - 5*
Aria Watson (Ari) is streetwise and thought she had handled everything life had already thrown at her. She was determined to stay away from the criminals she worked for and save her little brother from their Mum's house. Then she suddenly died and woke up with four incredibly hot gods telling her she is now a Valkyrie. Loki is sharp and crafty, Thor is jovial and very ferocious, Baldur is very compassionate and Hod is very grim and secretive. It seems their king (Odin) is missing and they need Ari to find him and help rescue him. Seems I'm the four Valkyrie - the previous three never made it back. Can all the new skills I have and every trick I have from my life before I died help in this huge task.? Also, what am I going to do about these hot gods that are getting under my skin?
Wow, this book merges together seamlessly the modern-day American life with Norse mythology into a story with lots of drama and action interspersed with soft emotional moments that definitely made you swallow and take a moment before continuing to read. Ari was a delightful character that I'm sure everyone can clearly see in my mind and understand how she was feeling or behaving. It was well written and all the thoughts and emotions of the characters were clear and easy to feel and empathise with. Great start to what promises to be a great series.
#2 Bound to Gods - 5*
Aria Watson had been brought back from the dead by four hot Norse gods to be their Valkyrie and having got used to her new powers they together with Freya suddenly find themselves trapped in a prison that looks like their home Valhalla but is fake. While trapped there, moments from their past are brought back and they have to live through those memories something that appears to be universally unpleasant. It is certainly an eye-opener for them all to relive and understand the impact past behaviours have had on each other - even if often Aria seems to become an arbiter between them trying to stop the hurt and facilitate better relations between them. It meant that large parts of the book went deeper into the characters of each of them and understanding their motivations and the effect that actions can have on others. I think at the end of it I understood all of the characters much better and they all became better because of their emotional journey. Loki became more serious, Thor learnt a bit more diplomacy and that fighting all the time was not the solution, and I understood a lot more about Hod and Baldur and how they might be very different but there really were similarities between them as I would expect with them being twins. It was great to understand Freya better as before this she was very much on the sidelines. I think they also understood Aria better too and so it ended up with a test of trust in each other and whether they could accept, forgive and move on from their own traumas of the past. Well written, a pleasure to read such powerful character building and I can't wait to find out what happens next.
#3 - Falling for Gods - 5*
Aria Watson is a Valkyrie and as her powers grow she becomes closer to her four gods in their home of Asgard. Her hopes of a quiet life and time to enjoy their company is not likely as the power-hungry giant Surt is determined to take over the world and Odin seems to have become fatalistic about how this whole situation will end. Ari and her gods have many battles and negotiations with the different parties involved in the conflict. Will they succeed so she can have a quiet life she would quite like to have or will something happen to change things?
Wow - lots of danger and drama in this instalment of the series. I loved the way Ari's relationship with the gods was developing and how they were all having distinct features in how their personalities developed and matched. Ari became a strong woman and who knew what she wanted and went for it in this book no matter who she needed to talk to to get it. I loved the way she was able to persuade all the different people to see her way of thinking and adapt to the situations she found herself in. The knowledge of mythology and the gods involved by the author was very detailed, and all that knowledge made this book and the rest of the series very rich and full of detail. Well written it was easy to understand and fell the frustrations, thoughts and emotions of the characters.
#4 - Waking the Gods - 5*
Aria Watson is a Valkyrie and when Surt appears in Asgard with a huge army determined to take over the realms of the Gods and the humans. Aria and her four Golds soon realise that they cannot possibly defeat him on their own and so they seek to find all of the other Gods who are scattered all over the place. When they are all gathered, Ari has to struggle with both her own self-doubt and the doubts of the other Gods with her abilities and the worth of any contribution, she might make. Can they win the fight for their lives as well as their home in this win or lose all scenario?
I loved this story which is the last of the series. It was packed with action, drama, danger, emotion, and lots of character development. Ari definitely came into her own in this story and it also showed a really nice strengthening of the relationship between her and her four God lovers. It was great to see how much they obviously cared for each other and that it was a relationship and not just a physical thing, I loved the way the story finished and what was promised for the future - I just wish we had more stories on the way in the series in order to explore their relationships and skills more. Recommended.
#5 - Living with Gods - 5*
Aria Watson is a Valkyrie and together with her 4 gods she revisits someone special to her and attends their wedding reception where they end up removing some uninvited guests. That then gives the gods to surprise her - will she agree to decline their request?
I loved this sweet story which nicely added a bit more of a conclusion for them all. It was nice to see all of the emotions for them all being discussed. I loved the way it finished. Well written and easy to read and understand.
Don't get me wrong I definitely like Thor. But between him and Loki It kind of gets old hearing a bunch of the same old stories. This is definitely a fresh and modern take On some old gods. Sorry if this reads weird I'm doing talk to text. I really wish I can read the books individually but overall for the whole series I give it a 5. There were a couple of parts where I was Kind of Thinking it was redundant. I mean there was reason to it but it felt like more of a filler. I wish I could be specific but I don't wanna do anything for anybody else or taint the way that they think about The series. Don't get me wrong Thor and Loki In there As well as a few other gods that aren't mentioned a lot. I do wish there was a little bit more in the love scene department. I definitely feel there was a lot of miss opportunities there. I mean I definitely didn't want the books to be saturated in it That a little more would have been nice . I did leave a review for the 1st Book because I bought that separate from the box set and it won't let me Post individual reviews.. But I wanted to refer to that 1 mentioning that amount of time they spent together Overall with relatively short and I feel like that could have been extended a little bit Through the training. Again trying not to give spoilers but I feel like it would have been A little better that way. Plus to maybe add some training in with another book And which they're trapped in a prison like world which again try not to Give spoilers. I've read some other reviews and all I can say as you gotta think these are gods they've been around they've seen things they done things For years and years so it's not unrealistic that they would be comfortable in the situations that they would be or that they have their feelings they would and then it's 1 of the biggest Kudos that I could get the author She really I feel got in the head of where it would be like to be eternal. At least how I think it would be eve forget somethings are you don't recognize that you can be something other. And thing thing is being moral sometimes you strive for better For so long you don't understand that life short and you should pause to enjoy. Again I apologize for all the grammatical errors. I did have to do talk to texts and that's miserable but I did not wanna leave a review All this is fresh in my mind. This is definitely worth the buy. I also think you would make a great gift. Read on readers and remember to always review.
**TW - SA of a minor, child abuse, physical & verbal abuse. Mentions drug usage. Killings (through the entire series - fighting bad guys). Mentions gangs. Violence.**
Review: If you’ve ever read the TOG series, you know what Dorian can do in those - spicy - moments… 🌶️ I’ve been wanting to read more books where people have that “ability” and bring it into the “bedroom”, or whatever room ;) haha Wellllll, surprisingly, this series does! Some magical spicy moments are chef’s kiss! I wasn’t looking for that here tbh. I was just looking for reverse harem and was pleasantly surprised with the magical spiciness 🪄🌶️.
I loved this series for what it was. My first Norse Gods read with the Gods being MC’s. Loki and Hod are my bad/tough guy but actually good guy types ;)
The Epilogue at the end of the series was EVERYTHING!! Most satisfying epilogue I’ve ever read!! Tears, smiles, wrapped everything up. I just absolutely loved it!! Other books have left me wanting more with no epilogues and some epilogues were just meh, in my opinion. But this epilogue made my heart content. Everything I was hoping for!
I'm glad I listened to this as one big book, rather than the 4x individual books and 1x novella. I believe it felt more cohesive, and made more sense as some of the endings of the individual books was a tad odd and would have been a bit off-putting if I'd been reading them individually.
This author's take on the 4 gods (Thor, Loki, Hod and Baldur) is certainly interesting. And I can appreciate how Aria could develop the relationship with them that she does, as quickly as she does. And I enjoyed the way they were forced to assess their past, and how they were essentially "therapised" to overcome the various reasons they have to dislike each other, including Hod and Baldur, even though they're twins. Certainly a very interesting take.
And the ending/epilogue portion of the story was also loads of fun.
Overall, an entertaining read, with plenty of spice for those who like it, without it being overboard or unbelievable for the reverse harem spin, and without overriding the actual story...
I bought the whole series on Audible, very grateful it was just one credit!
Eva Chase has again created a brilliant cast of characters, including the MFC who I quickly adored.
Love how this links to Norse mythology, it genuinely feels like we learn more about each of the Gods, with lovely little links to their myths and origin stories. I've always though Odin was a control freak alphahole, and he is. Even towarss the end I can't forgive his lack of perspective. However I adore Loki, and for more than the Tom Hiddleston visual lol.
Hot, steamy scenes, though the books has less than I'd like tbh, Eva doesn't need them. You invest and evolve with her characters so much, the brief passion is enough, and almost feels unnecessary (but please don't stop including them).
I've read so many of her books now, and have yet to suffer any disappoinment at all. In my top three authors of all time (which says alot as I read hundreds of books each year).
Their Dark Valkyrie The complete series 12/18/2024
Ari is just going about her day delivering packages for some crime boss when out of no where a Jeep come barreling down the road that’s the last she remembers tell she wakes up in a strange place with no injuries. And that’s where this great adventure starts. Soon she fines that she’s not human anymore but a Valkyrie. Yap mythological creature. Brought back by four Gods to help them find Oden the Allfather. Loki, Thor,Baldyr,Hod and Oden’s wife Freya they have been trapped on Midgard because Oden when for a walk quite a long while ago. Now it’s Ari job to find him. But once they do big trouble happens. So enjoy these four books because the story is worth it!!
Their Dark Valkyrie: The Complete Series by Eva Chase is a reverse harem urban fantasy romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Samantha Cook and Aiden Snow.
I love Eva's books! I was pulled in from the very beginning and couldn't wait to see how everything was going to play out. I loved the relationship between Aria, Thor, Loki, Baldur, and Hod. I really enjoyed getting all of their points of views throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.
Aiden and Samantha did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.
I would recommend this series if you're looking for an urban fantasy romances or why choose romance.
This was a great series! I tried starting this series a few years ago and couldn't get into it. So I decided to give this a second chance and listened to the audiobook and was pleasantly surprised. I thought the story and concept was great. There were some parts about the men's past that weren't explained or any details given about. It was more like we were supposed to already know what happened. Maybe most people are knowledgeable in Norse mythology (I'm not). What I know about Thor and Asgard is from the Marvel movies. Anyway, besides that I thought the story and characters were great. Eva Chase is the queen when it comes to writing a reverse harem.
So in love with this unforgettable series! If you crave Norse gods who are delightfully delicious, one-click this beauty right now! The hardcover is glorious with its art and gorgeous color! The cover is spectacular and I could easily stare at it for hours!
Loki, Thor, Hod and Baldur each are so wonderfully entertaining and have unique personalities. They are true to Viking lore and will keep you riveted to this unputdownable book!
Eva Chase writes with talent and suspenseful action! She carries you away on these complex adventures with twists you'll never see coming.
Y’all, I think I love this even more than The Dragon Shifter’s Mates (and I adored that series entirely)! The combination of an intriguing plot, fascinating and lovable characters, the interwoven Norse mythology, and the steeeam made an absolute smash hit series! It took me a bit to get into book one (I’d just finished an omegaverse duet and was dealing with a book hangover), but once I did, I was gone. Loki and Hod were my favorite favorite guys, but I truly did love them all!
All four books are included. I enjoyed the spin on Greek mythology. I thought the book was well written. Trigger warning, there is definitely quite a bit of hinting at the sexual assault of a minor. Nothing graphic but enough that you can read between the line is what happened to the main character. I liked that Ari remained true to herself throughout the book. She thought outside the box and proved even though she wasn't q God, she could still be a valuable part of the team to help save the world.
I love it when a book draws you in enough to feel the emotions of the characters! This is a great series with some fun little twists to some of the Norse mythology. It's exciting to see how the modern world blends with the ancients in these books and makes sure there it's never a dull moment. Lots of action, lots of love and a little sadness. I couldn't stop until I finished there whole set!
So many visions in my head of the multiple ways in which these men have rocked the world in one way or another! And to have a baddie FMC!!! Yum!!!! Absolutely loved the up and down of everything! How this FMC while absolutely amazingly strong, built more strength amongst her companions and pushed them to greater heights than they knew they were capable of! Absolutely loved!
Their Dark Valkyrie The Complete Series by Eva Chase: 5 stars overall— Valkyrie/Aria, Gods/Loki, Hod, Belhar, Thor, Freya, etc. A gut wrenching story at times with dark and light, death and rebirth, good and bad. Really likable characters and lots of action with a good pace. Books 1, 3, and 4 were enjoyable, but not so much book 2 (which was a 3 star for me). —PTators
I do love a reverse harem, but this one is not working for me. The story is half-baked, the romance is not compelling, and I don't believe in the enemy, as their efforts to annihilate the main characters are not logical and lack determination. I listened to the first 2 books in this series and couldn't not be bothered to continue wasting time. Who knows, it might get better, but it should have started so... DNF
The world building and relationship building it out of this world. Yes she is a thick one but it doesn't feel repetitive or boring in the least. And the whole story wraps up nicely. I love how each relationship is independent from the other and vibe well. The banter is bantering. The spice wasn't overly so to the point where it is just too much. Love love love. I read this with the audiobook and it brought the story to life.
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
DNF. I really wanted to give this a good go as I waited so long for my library to get the box set. I finished the first book and thought it was ok, but listening to the second at 39% I just couldnt go on. This type of storyline just wasnt keeping me interested, I was getting bored and it was a struggle for me to follow it.
Aria hasn’t had a easy life despite her young age and is doing what she can to stay afloat until a twist of fate (with the help of a few norse gods) puts an end to life as she knows it. It’s a tale of getting what’s been long held beliefs about oneself and the existing worlds and becoming more. Amazing story with all the twists and turns to keep one’s attention and the pages turning.
I couldn’t have loved this series any more if I tried! I can’t tell you how many nights (early mornings) I had to force myself to put it down so I could get a few hours of sleep. If you like strong female leads mixed in with Norse gods, you’ll love this!
I love these characters so much and this series. I love this author but this boxset with the extra epilogue made it even better. I’m so happy the extra scene with Peter was there it made this series even better
Ari is amazing! She is a girl that has fought for everything in her life. She is smart, funny and strong! Her 4 amazing Gods are perfect for her. This is truly a great series.
Ari and her Gods had a hell of a journey. As always Eva had an amazing build to their story. I loved how she worked in little stories from mythology. Extra epilogue was a great bonus to their all ready HEA.
Lots of good battles in these books. Enjoyable exploration of Norse Gods. Some light romance and sex to add colour, but the good vs evil story domunates
DNF 49%. I tried, I really did, I got this far by attempting to persevere but alas I just couldn’t get into the storyline, the FMC the MCs all of them didn’t entice me at all. I can’t put a finger on why, I love me a RH story just a no from me ☹️
