From Isolation to Community charts the course of youth work during the coronavirus the pivoting to different working practices; the cessation of many practices which had been happening week in week out for the majority of us; and the reality of the challenges faced by many. Covid-19 has changed the way we do youth work, likely for good. The question must be, where do we go from here? How are we going to rebuild the world we have been operating in? This the story of youth work across many different contexts during these unprecedented times, from Woodcraft Folk, through long-term detached projects to faith-based youth ministry. Reflecting on the varied experiences from youth work projects around the UK, this is a book for anyone in youth work wanting to learn from our covid experiences and figure out what we need to focus on as we go into an uncertain future.
Jenni has been woring with young people and children for more than 25 years, with a wealth of experience in both working with young people and also supporting those who support young people. She has worked in a variety of contexts including youth work, teaching, school's work, school governor, trainer and mentor as well as currently hosting the Jenni Talks podcast.
This has been a very good and inspiring read. Jenni has pulled together a great list of contributors for what really is a great jumping off point for the next season in youth ministry/youth work.
Some great thoughts by friend/peer Jenni on youth work in the covid era. The last chapter, in particular, was the most helpful in helping us to think about what we could learn from this crisis and what is truly important in youth work. The section on youth work as sanctuary was especially meaningful to me.
