okay, another cowboy with a baby! his best friend's baby! he is taking his best friend's baby into the snowy black hills, where i think cartoon villains live. cowboys should never babysit, even if they are former special ops air force whatevers-turned-cowboys...
I'm usually a fan of this author, but this one didn't do it for me. For one thing, I have a problem with the "my child is missing, but I'm still in the mood for sex" scenerio. If my child had been kidnapped, believe me, the last thing on my mind would be sex.
But my biggest complain is the unanswered plot points. Like who kidnapped the baby and why? Seriously, that is NOT answered in the book, and it's the one thing I wanted to know most! I'm guessing since this is part of a series, it'll be answered in another book. But that really frustrates me. I like even series books to be capable of standing alone.
A Man Like Matt: Brotherhood Protectors World: Black Hills Brotherhood Book 1 is written by Mallory Kane. Even though this book is just like so many of the others- boy and girl get together, they have an adventure and maybe get separated, adventure ends well and they live happily ever after- it is still a book that keeps you interested in finding out how they survive the adventure. Amy, Will, and Matt had known each other for a very long time and felt each member was part of the family. Matt was genuinely happy when Amy and Will got married and thrilled when he found out she was pregnant. However, their happiness came to a halt when Matt took Will to skydive. Matt couldn’t resist something his friend wanted to do especially since Will was dying of cancer. However, something happened and Will’s parachute didn’t open and he was killed. Matt blamed himself and knew Amy blamed him too. Just hours before he left on a mission, he watched from a distance when they buried Will. Amy never saw him and was angry that he didn’t attend Will’s funeral and later her son’s christening. By that time, he was across the world on a mission. He was searching for Rook Castle for his wife Irina. Irina saw Rook get shot and fall into the Mediterranean; but never come back up. She was sure he was alive and sent men to look for him. She called Matt home because she ran out of money. Matt returned just in time to find out that Amy’s son William had been kidnapped and a ransom was set to be paid. Matt took on the investigation and set out with Amy to get to the top of a nearby mountain to the Vick’s mountain cabin to pick up the baby from the kidnapper. This was in the middle of a series of fronts that passed over the mountain. What surprises await them?
Matt Parker embarks on on an epic journey of survival to rescue and protect Aimee and her kidnapped 7 month old son Will. The plotline is complex and exciting, as Matt and Aimee search for Will and survive deadly circumstances. The plot twists and turns made this book a page turner! Well written and compelling A Man Like Matt is a very good romantic suspense novel! The "feels" could have been stronger given the premise but, but there were some! I liked that the angst was reasonable and not overly dragged out! This is the first book I've read by Mallory Kane and I'm so glad I did! The next two books in the series sound excellent also!
Matt is part of the Blackhills Brotherhood. He has lost a teammate that left a wife and unborn son. Aimee is so devastated when she lost her husband. Now her son is all that matters. Matt is back after being gone a year and has just learned Aimee's baby has been kidnapped. He has to get him back. Aimee is hell bent on going with. Will they find the baby? Will Matt tell her how he feels about her?
Aimee couldn't believe she had slept through someone stealing her baby, the man who had returned her dead husbands body to her is offering to help get him back even though she's still mad at him for disappearing for the last year she doesn't have a choice.
I would recommend this book and series for mature readers only ( sexual situations and violence ) who enjoy reading stories that are a mixture of being funny, steamy, suspenseful, and romantic. Well done
A great new Brotherhood Protectors series in the Black Hills. Matt and Aimee have know each other for years, in fact she married one of his best friends, Will. There's a lot of revolving pieces to this story, and the secrets keep you guessing who done it and who's behind the kidnapping. Plenty of action, heat in an unexpected place, considering the circumstances and a HEA.
Matt and Aimee had known each other almost their whole lives. She had been married to Will his best , until he died from jumping from a plane. Matt had been with him and was suffering from survivors guilt. He came back and they found out Aimee's son had been kidnapped.
A thrilling action packed read! Aimee and Matt’s hunt for, Aimee’s baby, William is moving. These lifelong friends cling to each other through the snow and the danger. The whodunnit and why is not completely answered but seems to be the link for further booksin the series.
This book had me holding back tears, for everything that each character had been through but in the end the kidnappers and the terrorist are dead but the leaders aren't. Can't wait for the next book to come out.
A Man Like Matt: WOW! Fantastic story! Wonderful writing. Great characters that work well together. Matt and Aimee worked really well together and had strong feelings for each other but it took an adventure to save William. I really enjoyed this story!
Great reading about Matt and Aimee. Amber's son has been kidnapped and Matt is trained in search and rescue. Full of excitement and danger as someone is also trying to kill them.
The story is heart breaking and get it makes your heart expand with happiness. The loss of love and life, kidnapping and attempted murder, and knowing the happiness of a love that finally survives it all is an amazing story.
His Best Friend’s Baby by Mallory Kane is a fast pace book and I enjoyed it; finishing it in less than 12 hours. This book is the start of a three book mini-series about the Black Hills Brotherhood and the remaining three men that make it up.
Matt Parker was Bill Vick's best friend since they were kids. He had known his widow just as long. The book starts with Bill's funeral and Matt standing at a distance so that Aimee does not see him. He had just went skydiving with his best friend. (Tim McGraw's song live like you were dying comes to mind) Bill was going to die in a few months from his cancer, but he didn't act like it. His wife begged him not to go, but he told her that Matt was safe as houses.
Matt left after the funeral to go and see if he could find one of his and Bill's friends, Rook Castle. Rook was taken out on a boat with his wife because he was the only one who could ID a terrorist. Matt's job as Search and Rescue was to do his best to find Rook, who made up the remaining three of the Black Hills Brotherhood formed when Bill, Matt, Rook and Deke were kids.
When Matt returns it is not on good terms not only has he yet to find Rook, but his godson has been kidnapped. Matt goes to Aimee telling her that he is going to save her son. Her mother in-law is not for this at all, but Aimee wants her son back. The only thing she has had since her husband was killed.
They set out to make the ransom drop, but nothing goes right from the start. The hummer is blown up by the kidnapper, a terrorist is also after Matt. Somebody at Black Hills search and rescue is behind things, but they don'd know who it is. Deke's Helicopter is sabotaged making matters worse on them along with the snow storms that are heading their way.
The snow storm coming in leaves Aimee exposed and with Matt's fast thinking she doesn't die of hypothermia. By the next night they aren't using his body heat to warm her it is more than that. He's built a shelter to hide out during the last of the day light hours from the kidnapper.
They end up making love right there in the snow like fort. Matt has always had an eye for her and it is apparent even at the beginning of the book.
Matt keeps his promise in getting William back to her and not even the terrorist, the kidnapper or the avalanche stop him from doing just that. They finally have William back only to about loose all three of their lives, but with some fast thinking, Aimee's know how on bandaging and the last of Matt's energy they get out with the help of Deke.
The book does not wrap up with who the mole at BHSR is so you will have to get the next book if you want to know, but it does get Matt and Aimee out with William. I loved what Bill had told Aimee before he had died about when she started to find somebody else. It makes the friendship bond between Matt and Bill still there even though he's dead.
Mallory Kane has once again out done her self I don't think even 6 or 7 stars would do for this book. It has action, adventure, helicopters, a hummer, explosion and even the hero has to fight to survive when he goes in.
Matt, Bill, Rook and Deke formed Black Hills Brotherhood when they were kids. When they started the search and rescue operation Black Hills Search and Rescue was perfect for them.
We start out at Bill Vick's funeral. He went on a skydiving trip with his best friend, Matt Parker, but died when his shoot didn't open. Matt feels guilty for the accident even though he couldn't have prevented it so when he goes to the funeral, he stays back so he can't be seen by Bill's widow, Aimee. He's sure she doesn't want to see him.
Matt goes to find Rook Castle and is gone for a year. When he gets back he finds out that Bill's 7 month old son, Matt's godson, has been kidnapped. Matt swears to Aimee he will find the baby. When the kidnapper demands a ransom Matt and Aimee take off to make the drop but they have problem after problem on the trip. The kidnapper blows up their vehicle and all their supplies and a terrorist is after Matt. Deke's helicopter is sabotaged so he can't get them out. Then they get hit with several snow storms. Someone connected to Black Hills Search and Rescue is behind everything but we don't know who.
I really liked this story. The expressive and emotive writing brings this story to life in a huge way. Action and suspense kept me on my toes. I was disappointed that we didn't get all the answers at the end of the book. Even though this is part of a series, I expected everything to be wrapped up at the end.
Please note I won Search & Rescue in a giveaway and His Best Friend's Baby is one of the two stories in this book.
Oh you, Harlequin Intrique, you suck me in with these books and I eat them like little purple candies. I really liked this book and did not expect to. A man falls in love with his late BF's widow during the rescue of her child I though was a little too sappy lifetime movie for me. BOy was I wrong. I (suprising!) liked both main characters and the story had just enough danger in it to feel almost real. I'll have to read more of Ms. Kane.
