“You Lead: How Being Yourself Makes You A Better Leader”, by business mogul Minter Dial, is the go-to book for business executives.
After experiencing first-hand the tragedy of 9/11, Dial saw the oppourtuntiy to change, both the way he lives and the way he does business. Dial modernizes business leadership, covering everything from the digital world (and social media), to how to be an empathic leader.
Using his experience as a former CEO of Redken, Dial discusses modern issues, and how to bring them into the business world. With a focus on “human” leadership and developing a trustworthy brand, “You Lead” is the ultimate read for those who want to not just “be the leader” but want to “be A leader”, and lead in the right way.

I really liked how the author used diagrams to help the reader visually understand what he was explaining. There was a focus on social media which I was pleasantly surprised about since I practically live my whole life through social media. I really liked how the author encourages you to be yourself and plays on your strengths instead of pointing out weaknesses. I just wish there was a little more of the self help aspect than the business side of it.

I've finally finished this book! In this book Minter Dial talks about how we (as an individual) can elevate ourselves to become a better leader. One of my favourite quotes from this book is:

"Whatever your passion, don't hesitate to let the cat out of the bag. People would rather do business over time with someone with passion rather than a soulless person. Express yourself."

And I 100% agree. This book is a definite must read for all the leaders out there, and I truly believe that this book will help elevate your leadership skills and how you lead people, wherever you are.

Have your business been struck with disparities of pandemic? Have you been reading self-help books to figure out how to run a business? Are employee strategies consuming you?

Bestselling author, Minter Dial, comes to rescue. He proposes a new realm of potential growth that in spikes business development and employee relations.

Great leadership is one of the rarest and important qualities of a person and I believe that these qualities are somehow missing in today's generation because most of us don't know what are those things make great a leader unique and great.

Yes, this book is about how you can become a great leader by following some strategies, and all those strategies are explained in detail in the book. The author says staying true to yourself, developing self-awareness, bringing out your unique self, and giving your 100 % at work can make you a great leader.

Although there are many other things the author has discussed with us. He shared insights from multinational companies on how they manage such big companies.

The best thing about a book is that everything is led by an example that makes it easier to understand, remember and relate. The author tells us why Jeff Bezos, Phil Knight Greta is a great leader and has been able to manage the entire functioning of companies according to their wish.
You may have noticed that these famous CEOs are highly respected, but why? Well, this book has it all.

The book is divided into 3 sections discussing various aspects in detail. The book also describes the death of George Floyd through digging into political leadership.

I highly and highly recommend this book to each of you. This is a very insightful and helpful book that I enjoyed and benefited from.

Go and grab your copies .

You Lead focuses on authenticity in the workplace. The author points out that if you’re spending more than 40 hours per week on you job- that’s 50% of your waking time. Do you want to be doing something you don’t believe in?
This book walks you through action items to ensure that you are being genuine with yourself and your actions in work, and that others can see that. It also encourages building community in the work place which, as we come back to work after one of the strangest years of all our lives, will be important.

Read this if:
-You work in a management or marketing role
-You want a modern take on authenticity from companies
-You want to move forward developing yourself professionally, but not throw yourself into 80 hour work weeks
-This past year had left you with a “who cares” attitude about your job or company

I didn’t rate this book because I find it really hard to rate books that help you work on yourself! That being said, if you fit any of the categories I mentioned above, I would recommend it!

Most leadership and self-help books provide us with a framework teaching us, Who To Be, How To Respond, How To Act, and the list goes on…

What most miss is that there is no cookie-cutter approach to leading others as everyone is different and may need a different message.

Not only are others different and unique, but SO ARE YOU!

Keynote speaker, author, and award-winning filmmaker, Minter Dial is spreading the powerful message on, How Being Yourself Makes You A Better Leader with his new book, You Lead!

He makes the claim that our biggest asset in leadership is ourselves. As he asks the question: How can you expect people to trust and believe in you if you aren’t truthful and don’t embrace your whole self at work?

Pretty straightforward question! How can you expect that?

If you want the best answer to this question and are dying for a new kind of leadership; one that bleeds personality and rings true to employees and customers who crave authenticity, then I’d encourage you to grab this book!

A must-read for aspiring and existing leaders

This book calls for a new kind of leadership, one where being authentic turns you into a better leader and impacts your co-workers, your brand, your business and your personal life.

The author ( @mdial ) is a strategist and brand expert and former Managing Director Worldwide for Redken, part of L’Oréal, and award-winning author.

"You Lead" conveys an important message: seeking true fulfilment at work and merging the personal and professional will allow you to have a whole different approach to what surrounds you and find true purpose in what you're doing.

This book was enriched by practical advice from the author, which is always a plus for me as a reader.
You'll find tips, insight and step-to-step guides. One concept that I particularly appreciated was the « AND mindset » where you’re supposed to replace all the « but » in your sentences with « and » for more complementary thinking and collaborative spirit.

The book is divided into the following 3 parts:
1. Setting the stage: The wake-up call for a new form of leadership
2. Merging the personal with professional
3. The challenges and realities of implementation: The personal journey

From the start, I connected with the book on many levels. Far from including concepts or examples that everyone has heard of hundreds of times, "You Lead" focused on teaching important lessons for today's leaders.

Minter Dial wrote a truly great book on leadership, avoiding the "superficial and unenforceable concepts" traps that we encounter in so many personal development or business books. I highly recommend it!

You Lead by Minter Dial is one of my favorite leadership books and definitely the best one I’ve read this year. What are you really doing that matters?
You Lead gives great advice that you can implement to improve your leadership but also yourself.

We learn to recognize the role of our personal life in how we conduct business.
Become transparent.
Find out true North with our Who?, Our top values and adding meaning to them.
Embrace humility in not thinking less of ourselves but in thinking of ourselves, less.
Learn to lead from the inside out with the biggest asset being ourselves!

This book is packed with lots of wisdom, advice and stories for us to become better value driven leaders and how it can affect performance and connection in our personal and professional lives.
Dial writes in an engaging, clear way with little recaps at the end of each section highlighting the key takeaways.

It’s time to take your work personally and grab a copy of this book!

This book teaches you the art of being a leader.

“For the great individual achiever, it is all about me. For the great leader, it is all about them.”

We are entering an era of unprecedented innovation and disruption. Innovation is good; disruption is better. As organisations navigate the changing landscape inspired by these disruptive forces, there needs to be a leader who can coordinate these efforts while building a deep and passionate influence with her or his team. This leads me to my second point: authenticity. Leadership must be rooted in something real; it need not be an accident of birth. True innovation comes from exploration, hard work and perhaps even a bit of luck. When it comes to creativity and innovation I believe there is a natural affinity between leaders and people who want to be creative. A leader’s credibility rests on her ability to listen and relate; it doesn’t depend on spinning narratives or knowing the answer to every question.

Leadership is a skill that develops through experience, training, and reflection.
Society has taught us that leadership is about being a leader. But what if I told you that it wasn't about what others thought of you, but what actually led you to lead? How could you become the best leader you could possibly be?

This book is about encouraging meaningful transformation in the way you lead, the language is direct, honest, and warm. Minter shows readers how embracing your whole self at work encourages people to also be themselves, seek true fulfilment at work and merge the personal and professional to become true examples of what you stand for.
Think of an old friend or mentor offering you advice for different stages of your career sharing lessons learned from being an award-winning author, strategist and brand expert. The former Managing Director Worldwide of Redken, part of L'Oréal, his advisory work has allowed him to work with brands that include LVMH, Remy Cointreau, Samsung, Credit Agricole, Google and Publicis.

𝐌𝐲 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬:
• Be yourself, lead by example and merge the professional and personal
• Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.
• Profits are the outcome rather than the objectives.
• We need to belong, yet be different.
• It's okay not to be okay all the time.
• You need to embrace the messiness while seeking order.

Your biggest asset in leadership is you. How can you expect people to trust and believe in you, if you aren't truthful and don't embrace your whole self at work?

Elon Musk, Richard Branson, Oprah ... these are names of people I admire although I haven't met in person (yet). What do they have in common? They are authentic leaders of their industries. Elon Musk doesn't try to have a 'nice' public image for investors. Richard Branson doesn't like suits and he doesn't wear them for his public image. Oprah doesn't deny her past. This amazing book by author Minter Dial will get you to dice deep into being a better leader by being yourself! WONDERFUL AND VALUABLE!

Do you know what are some pin point traits and human behaviour that make them to lead a great organization and company.

In this book "You Lead" by M. Dial we are going to know this from scratch to multinational corporations leadership qualities and skills.

What makes Jeff Bezos, Mark, Steve, Phil knight and other world renowned CEOs to lead such a huge industries. They know how to lead their company in most desirable direction.

How do they manage their shares of companies and other parent company. Also the stakeholders and investors do a great role in plentiful way to nurture a trustworthy company.

After reading this book there are so many things which have been cleared from the view of entrepreneurship thought which has clouded my mind.

As this book has written during the pandemic and the US election and also the BLM support after the death of Gorge Floyd a black man. So it has cover the political leadership aspect which can not be unseen in this digital era.

Book is enriched with his life long experiences. He had worked in L'oreal to some other big companies where his approach is quite magnificent in dealing with customers and being counter as a leader.

I love the narration and the given ideas are greatly apt to implement in any service to serve as potential leader.

He has shared so many virtues of people which basically drive out the raw and impartial being as to know someone at deeper level.

He has share a four paradoxes which shoes how we delude to ourselves and after understanding we get to know what kind of impact it creates.

The time management key is a major factor and also the communication building trust with customers to employees. In corporate sector it is essential tool to counter. This is really must read book if you are going to start your day in building a great organization.

"When You Lead, you will find the best way to yourself, get results and genuine reputation to which you aspire".

“Those who know how to connect the dots, ideas and people will be those who know how to surf on the wave of Change”

“You need to get ahead of the curve and put forward the best version of you, otherwise others will write their version of you for you.”

In this book, the author @mdail explains that when YOU LEAD, you’ll find the best way to be yourself, get results and the genuine reputation to which you aspire.

As the winds of change continue to whirl at pace, it’s easy to get knocked off course. There is no prior roadmap for us to navigate through change.

In the pandemic lockdown, our personal and professional worlds all of a sudden became intertwined. For remote work to really work, communication style and practice becomes primordial considerations. And building trust is a the critical glue to keep the workflow and output effective.

The author is a steadfast proponent of being responsible for managing ones own communications and setting proper examples.

My key takeaways from the book were the following topics:
- The employee as customer
- The mountain of opportunities
- The Amazon leadership principles
- Philosophy of Harley Davidson company
- Profits are the outcome rather than objective
- The “And” mindset
- Aligning your personal and professional compass
- It’s okay to not be okay all the time.
- We will need to embrace the messiness while seeking order.
- To stand out, you need to stand for something.
- CHECK mindset- curiosity, humility, empathy, courage and karmic.
- Being fit is a necessary virtue as a leader
- Making consumer-Centro city come alive.
- The art of being a leader
- Lead with the why
- Personal brand
- Connecting the dots

A great read to understand leadership at any level. A must read 💯

“To bring about transformation and raise engagement, you’ll need to have the courage to be yourself and lead by example...Being your authentic self will make you a better leader.”
.
In the very beginning, the author shares his inspiration for this book that started with an epiphany he had regarding leadership during a time of crisis. This lead him to merge his professional and personal selves to become one, bringing his values into the workplace. It makes total sense, as he points out that anything you are doing for 50% of your waking hours in any given week should be personal and authentic.
.
One section of the book I got a lot out of examined how we use technology to connect to our clients and the market, which, if you are doing it well, will ensure you are hearing your core market and connecting to potential influencers.
.
Another chapter about the “art of leadership” reviewed how he feels being a better leader involves being “fit” yourself - mindfulness, exercise, sleep, and time-management are so important, yet always seem to be the first thing to go to the chopping block when you are under stress! Here, he outlines how to make it a part of your daily routine.
.
I liked the set up of the book, with a clear set of objectives laid out at the beginning of each chapter and a summary with key points at the end. This is a great resource for leaders at every stage in their career and can be applied to many fields!
.
Thank you to @bookstarpr , @mdial and @koganpage for my copy of You Lead! This was a book and author I was not familiar with, so I was excited to discover that a lot of his philosophy of leadership rang true to me!

Book Plot-
“Leadership is lifting a person's vision to high sights, the raising of a person's performance to a higher standard, the building of a personality beyond its normal limitations”. The line as stated here, reflects the basic precepts of leadership and shares a great deal of relevancy with the overall context of the book at hand, where the author has verily stressed upon the importance of starting leading ourselves as readily construed by the title of the book itself. Delving further, the book has been divided into 3 parts and the author straight away cuts to the chase with the title “Setting the Stage” where the author shares and recounts his own wake-up call as the same came from an event which made him question his real objective. As the chapters progress further, the author stresses upon the importance of Values and especially with reference to the Covid-19 situation and stresses upon the aspect of bringing oneself to work. Further, the progression of chapters the author talks of the importance of having the right form of governance with having the required acumen to ensure a proper assessment of ownership rights and staying critical and for the whole of the book, the readers would find a perfect progression of the content with no material aberrations till the last page

It must be noted that the author has presented a holistic work which is fairly well complemented by simplicity, lucidity and comprehensiveness all of which come from the overall structure of the book complemented by the usage of the diagrams. It can be easily construed that this book offers fresh insights and perspectives and thereby being a must read for everyone

" When you know why you are doing what you do and it resonates with your deeper purpose, all the activities that are aligned with that purpose will you back energy."

Businesses that focus on better leaders instead of better management deliver better results.
In today's world where small business and startups have opportunities to grow then need for better leaders have also risen significantly.

In the book You Lead, author Minter Dial provides impeccable strategies to develop a leadership style that resonates with your purpose and helps you lead your peers and organization to flourish.
we need leaders who are not only smart but also understand the nature of the company or organization they work for. For this reason, engaging with the people in the company and working as a team along with them is necessary.

Interestingly, the book doesn't focus on traditional leadership but promotes more authentic leadership where you can be yourself and lead by example.

The book is in three parts:

1. Setting the stage: The wake-up call for a new form of leadership
2. Merging the personal with professional
3. The challenges and realities of implementation: The personal journey

If you are in any position of leadership in your life then this book will help you reflect on your capacity to lead and help you transform into a better leader for your institution.
our ability to develop self-awareness with honesty and courage is a pre-condition to be a good leader.

Happy reading!

I felt really connected with the argument that this book makes, that “your biggest asset in leadership is you: when you embrace your whole self, that’s when people will trust you more and believe in your journey"

Really loved reading about the way the world's most renowned CEOs and entrepreneurs lead their organization and made it highly successful with their leadership strategies.

If we look closely into the biggest brands on earth, they lead in a different way, one that bleeds personality and rings true to employees and customers alike who crave authenticity.

I personally loved this book a lot, and highly recommend it if you are a budding entrepreneur and want to learn how to make a larger impact and connect with your customers and employees.

The narration of the book is attention-grabbing, one thing that I was surprised about is that I connected with this book just after starting which is really important to me when reading non-fiction, and there are very few non-fiction books that really take the reader with then and demand your attention.

I really liked:

~The figures and diagram will make you understand things better.
~Insights in the leadership method of renowned CEO’s and what makes them special
~The experience of Mr. Minter dial @mdial was really inspirational

If you are looking for something to read on leadership this is the book to go with.

Through the author’s experience at L’ Oréal, Redken and other companies, Minter share how you can be authentic in your leadership style at the same time appealing to your coworkers, costumers, shareholder, stakeholders, and all the people involved. This book gets technical. Minter covers the topic of dealing with your employees, customers, shareholders, stakeholders, retailers… in specific and actionable steps, which means that this book is specifically for employees and leaders in any organization. As this book promotes merging your personal and professional life, Minter identifies the obstacles towards such type of leadership and how to overcome them, all of which is backed up by examples brought to the reader from the author's years of experience in leadership. Minter Dial also shows how leadership can be an art. Every chapter starts with a quick overview, so you can expect what you are going to read, and end the each chapter with keynotes, which helps rereading the important points.

There's literally tens of thousands of books on leadership out there. Most of them are the same, rehashed knowledge that someone trips over and decides they are the first person that has ever discovered the concept of leadership and should write a book. Many do it to enhance their speaking engagements and to give themselves a false sense of credibility - I mean, a guy wrote a book, right, so he must be knowledgeable! Minter Dial is the real deal. His career spans two decades at the executive level of a global cosmetics brand. He's been a digital pioneer. He's an amazing storyteller. You Lead is book number four for him and its written beautifully in prose that's both intellectual and direct. The concepts in You Lead will work for a corporate CEO or the manager of a gas station - the ideas are universal. Dial focuses not on helping you bend to a corporate mindset, but challenges you to go on a voyage of self discovery and to learn how to integrate that into your management style, transforming the people and culture around you.

📛 Book: You Lead by Minter Dial
⭐ Rating: 5/5
🏴‍☠️ Reading Difficulty: Medium
🔢 Pages to read: 230

I'm not a huge fan of leadership books as most of those have similar knowledge our school teachers use to teach us from business books but, this was whole another level. It is not just a leadership book, it's a must-read guide for all business leaders of the 21st century, especially post covid-19. The book is extremely very well written and deeply researched. It is filled with applicable strategies, top tips. Definitely, one of the best books I have read on Leadership.
It will teach you about:
1. The new form of leadership in the digital era
2. How you should manage personal and professional life
3. Challenges one needs to face while implementing the above.

Highly recommend giving it a read. I'm sure it will teach you something new even if you've read many books about leadership.
