Lydgate

Rate this book
A novel that borrows characters from Frankenstein and Middlemarch. Some chapters are told in the words of Tertius Lydgate, here dissuaded from his disastrous marriage to Rosamond Vincy by news of a strange, gigantic human specimen, found frozen in the icy polar regions... Other chapters are told by Frankenstein's creation, defrosted and revived by Lydgate - and horrified at his own continued existence. The rest are told by the idealistic Dorothea Casaubon, determined to convince the creature of his value to Lydgate's researches, and by estate manager Caleb Garth, similarly determined to talk some of the German Romanticism out of the creature and replace it with a bit of plain English common sense...
