Boss On A Leash

I wanted a dog. I got a billionaire boyfriend instead.

My name’s Ali Greenwald, and I’m taking a break from men. I had my vow of celibacy all planned out. Then I met Marc Wylan, my billionaire kryptonite.

He’s not sporting a ring. And he’s got a metal credit card with a high spending limit. Oo-la-la.

Seattle’s favorite billionaire is tall, dark, and handsome. An absolute catch. But we’ve got opposite goals. And he’s a total jerk. He’s ahead of me in line to buy the puppy of my dreams. My puppy. He thinks he’s going to get my number.

He’s wrong.

After stealing my dog, he makes me an offer. One date, in exchange for a sincere apology. Needing an escape, I make a counter-offer. If we run into each other again, I’ll give him my number. There’s no way that will happen in Seattle.

Well, it happens. I’m his daughter’s teacher. And now I’m really screwed.

Instead of handing him my number, I get defensive. I make a new offer. Whoever holds out the longest wins the dog. I’m not giving up.

Problem is, I’m finding out his only defect is that he’s perfect. Too perfect. I keep an eye out for his fatal flaws. There are none. He’s a great dad.

Who am I kidding? I’m falling for the man who pushed ahead of me in line. Pretty soon, I won’t need a dog. I’ll be on all fours, but he’ll be the one wearing a leash.

We’ll see how long he’ll last.

The summary was so much more appealing than the actual book. Nothing about the story (or characters) was realistically believable. I mean is it really enemies to lovers if they give in that quick.
The characters were unbearably flawed too. The protagonist (a teacher) was very childish and is definitely going through some crisis. Sometimes she was very mature, others I would forget that she’s an adult and not a teenager. Marc, the love interest, was TOO cheesy. The author was very quick to show that the smart, flirty businessman is actually soft as butter.
The plot revolves around the romance, and the romance just lacked chemistry. It would have suited a younger romcom more.

Honestly, it wasn’t too bad. Just not something exceptional so I can’t rate it any higher than two stars. I just go for its light read but it reminds me of when I’m reading a developing Wattpad author’s story. The writing style was kind of amateurish.

Another downfall of it? There are numbers of typos, grammatical errors and some misplace punctuations. That kind of bothers me a lot since this is a published book so I’m expecting more thorough proofreading and editing.

Terrible

I don’t know whether someone edited this story to hell, but it makes no sense. Or it’s just badly written. The timeline totally off. The characters suck and I feel sorry for the dogs.
Don’t bother with this one.

It has ALL the tropes...

I wanted to like this book, but there were so many things that I just couldn’t ignore. Details that don’t really make sense, it felt like every trope under the sun was shoehorned into this story. The weirdest detail was the description of a mustache in the shape of Tallahassee, Fl. I lived in Tallahassee, and I had to look it up in a map. That is not a shape I’ve ever seen a mustache in, let me tell you. I’m sorry, I’m a little obsessed with this detail. He’s from NYC, she’s from... well, Chicago was mentioned once, so we’ll go with that. The story’s set in Seattle. There’s no mention of Florida at all, so why would you toss in a reference to Tallahassee?

The only reason why this book was not a DNF for me was I was morbidly curious about what unbelievable bit was coming next. By the end, I didn’t care for the characters or why they broke up before finding their HEA. I didn’t even care if they got a HEA.

Mediocre DNF book with promise

I was excited to read this book, but quickly realized it does not live up to the promise of the premise. On a purely technical level, there were a number of editing issues that made the book hard to follow. For example, the gender of a tertiary character kept changing during a convo, like the author decided to change that character from a female to a male, but didn't properly edit to make it consistent. The H's daughter's age, grade, years living with him, etc.... Are not made coffee and don't align with her actions once clarified. (Aside- authors who write children into their books really need to meet some kids of that age cause it's maddening when a 7 year old character acts both 5 and 10 in the span of one chapter)

Additionally, some of the basic plot points were at best convoluted, and at worst incomprehensible. Halfway through the book, the bet, which doesn't make sense and is a bit cruel in the guest place, is moot, and the conflict of his job makes no sense. Characters have to borrow someone's clothes one day, and the next- when they haven't yet gone home- they have a specific gorgeous outfit to wear. The dogs central to the plot just sort of disappear when they aren't convenient. A boss is totally fine with being blatantly ignored in order for the H & h to flirt on the h's first day of work. It's just odd and confusing. The writing is all tell, no show.

I almost never DNF, and if this book were pithier, I would have finished it. But halfway through I was ready to stop having to puzzle out the plot and slog through pointless paragraphs. This book had potential, and it's not the worst thing I've ever read by a long shot, but it doesn't live up to it's potential and just wasn't worth the time.

DNF. Poorly developed characters. Poor story crafting. Unbelievable actions and motives. I continually re-read parts thinking I missed something. There was a first for me... Their hotel sexual experience... she came...he came...I stopped reading.
No. It wasn’t good for me.

Wow. Horrible. Good plot. Horrible Billionaire with bad work ethics, honestly how did he make his “billions” when he treats his company and staff like that.
The little girl was cute but really all the adults don’t even try to correct her horrible behavior, and yeah she’s been traumatized but again no dealing with it at all.

Oh hey, the female main character is a teacher who first day on the job, late to work then ignores the principle/dean of the school to chat up the hot billionaire dad.

I’m sorry author, but your book was bad, just plain bad.

Also, sorry safety officer here, absolutely no talk of condoms or protection when he plows right into her. Again your characters are horrible people. She internally thanks god or whoever that she is on the pill. But again, neither takes any responsibility at all. Also banging all over the bathroom floor of a motel is not hot at all.

So immature.

This guy was so immature to be thirty-five years old. He ran a company worth billions and yet he could not tell her his idea. Crazy!!! They fell hard too fast and it was crazy. She should have stepped back a little. The little girl needed a counselor because she was having some issues that needed some attention. His two main employees were the ones keeping the business going because he never did anything useful. His ideas were immature and lack substance. It was too long and there were a lot of errors.

This book was, not great. I loved the premise but man did the story fall flat. The relationship just kind of started and immediately went at hyper speed before we really even realize what’s going on. It’s all rushed and these deep relationships, with children too, develop instantly. There was no build at all, no background, no connection at all.
No thanks.

I received an ARC of Boss on a Leash thanks to the publisher through BookSprout in exchange for an honest review.

Summary thanks to BookSprout:

“I wanted a dog. I got a billionaire boyfriend instead.

Review:

The “curb appeal” of this book is wonderful. The cover is incredibly cute and the summary is snarky and funny. The “all fours”/”leash” thing may have been a bit much in a summary but it definitely got my attention. That’s some strong commitment to the dog theme!

I like the characters for the most part but the insta-love was frustrating. When I looked past that, the story was good. The backstory of Marc and Sammy was really well crafted and unique.

Overall, the story was enjoyable and quick to read. If you like insta-love story, you will love this one!

I have not read many of Ms. Kara Hart's publications, however, I could kick myself for that oversight because her work is incredibly crafted.

Inside Boss On A Leash, we are taken on an incredible journey for 3 amazingly designed characters. The creative way that Ms. Hart portrays the characters of Ali, Marc and Sammy is spot on. Ali is a substitute school teacher looking for permanent employment. Marc, a CEO/billionaire and single Father to Sammy, is busy beyond words. After a chance meeting at a gas station, each of their lives change and their journey was riveting and realistic to me. All to often we get caught up in our daily lives and the personal growth shown in Marc was beautiful to read.

I was beyond fortunate to have requested an advanced reader's copy of Boss On A Leash, from The Bad Boy Update, in exchange for my honest and voluntarily given opinion.

I truly recommend reading this release.

Ali is on a break from men - she's been hurt enough. She's focused on her career, and finding a cute little dog to make her life complete. Instead, she gets a big, smelly dog, and the attention of a hot billionaire who keeps insisting that she place bets on their getting together.

Marc is under stress from his job. Still, he tries to be a good dad. Some days, he's almost certain he's failing there, too. Then, he meets Ali, and he realises that she's all the things missing in his life. But can he hold it together long enough to tell her that?

With a unique meet-cute and storyline, Boss On A Leash has the makings of a good book. However, some parts of the book left me wondering about logistics. There were some times I also wondered about Marc's management style and the way he treated his so-called "faithful employees". But if you look past that, you'll see it as a cute, dog-themed, insta-romance story.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.

Cute story

I loved the idea of the story, i read the whole thing, but it was so hard to get into it. Marc was so whiny and Sammy was unrealistic for my experience with an 8 year old child (I've had 2 kids and neither ever acted that way). The story says its because she lost her mom at a young age, but I felt she lost her as a baby so she wouldn't really have known her considering she thinks Marc is her real dad when in reality he's her uncle. There were several scenes where the story didnt make sense. Especially at the end. They left the bed naked to the photo room, then sammy comes in but apparently they are clothed or being naked in front of the kid isnt a big deal. The story was great, but there was a lot of editing needed to make it flow better and more relatable.

This was a cute, fun story but at times it was slow, I just wanted the storyline to progress. Marc is a handsome, smart, great father that felt to me he was a little lost and lonely. Ali is a little flighty and bratty at times, but a very caring and loving teacher. At times I got frustrated with them both, I did not understand why Marc would not have just asked her for help with his work stuff. I did not like Sandra, I felt she acted mean to Ali for no reason. I liked how Ali watched out for Sammy but at times she was a little bratty too but she had been through alot so.... I am glad that when they fell apart it didn’t drag on and on, that things got worked out quickly and they had their happily ever after.

Couple minor spoilers……

Honestly, it takes a lot for me to not finish a book…..my OCD often demands me to finish it no matter what! 😆
However, this one won me over in the DNF realm….. I was *so* confused during the first 6 chapters, my brain couldn’t even take anymore.
It felt like it kept jumping around and things didn’t flow well…..and then a teacher applies for a job, and is flirting / negotiating / arguing with the dad in the hallway, while the boss is there watching - gives up and tells her to come see him if she wants a job, and she proceeds to keep talking to the guy and bartering to get the dog?!…..🤔🤔🤔🙄
Sorry….really wanted to like it, but I just couldn’t get past what felt like some immature / maybe no editor to proof - writing…?

Characterizations ARE The Story.

This was an interesting read with a varied cast of characters. The characterizations ARE the story. We are all so human and frail in our own ways. It almost feels like a mini miracle when we totally connect with another person. Then comes the reckoning; do we accept their human frailties and continue on or do we become self-righteous and carry on alone? This is the main quandry of this tale. A humbling read. Good Stuff!

I loved this book. It's about Marc and Ali, Matc is a business man and Ali is a substitute teacher. They meet at petrol station and he asks for her number right away and she says If they run into each other again, she will give him her number. They do meet again but Marc steals Ali's dog that she wanted to purchase right out from under her due to having more money. They meet again when she ends up being his daughter's school teacher and he wants her for a model on a magazine he is trying to save. The story is well written and the characters were great and had amazing chemistry. The book sends with a HEA.

This is a quirky tale of love, and dogs! Ali is trying to make it on her own. She is dying to get a job teaching at the private school and when she is turned down she decides a dog is the answer to her problems. Marc is a single dad who works too much and may not be a model father, but loves his daughter. He thinks a dog is the answer to the problems he is having with her. The dogs initially bring them together, but the more time they spend together, sometimes unwillingly, the more the attraction grows. This isn't all butterflies and unicorns. This is the reality of love and life for many people, quirks and all! I received this ARC from Bad Boy Updates.

Flirty, funny and flatulent. A fun, billionaire romance - doggy style. ;)

Fun and lighthearted romantic comedy! Ali and Marc had great chemistry and the banter between them was sharp and witty. A quick read with little angst, but lots of laughs, an adorable little girl and 2 troublesome pups. It was a funny book with just enough steam and sizzle and a great happy ending - exactly what the doctor ordered during these super stressful times. I'll definitely be checking out what else this author has written.

On the whole, this is a light hearted, feel good sappy romance but it does have holes in it that are sort of glossed over. Don't get me wrong here, i enjoyed it but it could have been better, imo.
Ali bumps into Marc on her way to get a puppy and this starts off a whirlwind of emotion and encounters. It comes across as slightly lame in places and i nearly stopped reading a few times but in the end, I persevered and did enjoy the whole!

This was painful to read

I am definitely not one to leave a one star review or DNF a book. I usually like anything and can get through any number of editing errors but this book was painful. The description of the book is honestly the only thing about it I enjoyed. Everything was both overly descriptive but also not giving any information. The insta love at first sight that the self made billionaire was ready to throw everything away for was honestly nauseating. And just saying, but swan lake is a ballet 🤷🏼‍♀️

This is a new author for me and I have enjoyed her humour and writing style. The characters were good, the story a little wacky but in a good way and I read it from start to finish. There were some twists, angst, romance, grief, hopes, dreams, support, connections, chemistry, plenty of passion and lots of love in this; a good read.

"Ragamuffin vs. Rowdy. If you (Ali) hadn't pulled over for gas, you would've won the King Charles."

"But Wait," he (Marc) says, imitating those old commercials on late night TV. "There's more."

She shows him the "shiny version" of Ali Greenwald. The new sexy, curvy woman every man wants.

Marc: "From here on out, I'll be a good boy. Obedient. well-trained, and a lover of doggy-style."

Witty, hilarious, sentimental, a recommended book!

Proof read! Please!

I don’t usually give bad reviews, but here goes. The story had promise, but that’s it. There are so many spelling mistakes and parts of sentences missing that sections become unreadable. Also, the plot jumps around. I kept having to go back and re-read paragraphs to make sure I didn’t miss anything. I didn’t, the plot was not contiguous.
Two stars because the story has promise. Two stars because the execution is awful.

A cute story about a Dad, a girl, and a teacher. There’s humor, drama, romance, suspense, and a few twists and turns. It is well written, with enjoyable characters and it is very entertaining. The dogs add a few laughs and maybe a “ whoa I sure have been there “. I voluntarily reviewed a free advance reader copy of this book and gave my honest opinion.

A Delightful Read.
Funny and romantic storyline of Ali and Marc that was enjoyable to read. There was a few extra plus to the story, a little girl named Sammy and two dogs, Ragamuffin and Rowdy. They all come together for this deliciousness.
I’m definitely recommending this book for your reading enjoyment. PEACE.

I found nothing attractive about a man who ends up with his niece and spoils her to the point that she's obnoxious but doesn't keep her in therapy even though he can afford it, nor a man who insists on a dog but not on training it. Then when he meets the love of his life, lies to her immediately.

No, just no. Red flags abound here, but Ali was motivated by money, but claimed she wasn't.
