Oh my GOD, that was absolutely exhausting.

As if the threat of The Builders, The Carpenters, The Lawn Guys, and The Carpet Cleaners weren't enough, Hickman also throws in Thanos trying to destroy Earth because he doesn't want to pay child support. (Is it just me, or do any Thanos stories that aren't done by Jim Starlin just feel like they don't count...? No one gets Thanos except for Starlin....so these "other creator" stories can be fun, but they just don't resonate as much with me. We often get Thanos the blunt instrument rather than Thanos the master tactician, and such is the case here. I've never thought about Thanos having any kind of sexual urges...he's always seemed above such base motivation...but here we get a Thanos who not only captures and rapes females of various species, but he lets them go/escape/whatever to bear his offspring, all of whom he wants dead. Just a thought, but...maybe kill these poor women, or give them a morning after pill or something. I mean, it took Thanos a few decades to get around to killing his underdeveloped character of a son, Thane...? Wear a condom.

Read together, the battle against The Builders AND the resulting battle with Thanos and The Black Order are completely draining. Hickman goes from big to huge to huger and hugest and huger still, and then ends the book with "Those guys were just the appetizer...worse is coming!" How can this pace be sustained? Because amidst all of the sturm und drang, the spectacle, the unbeatable odds being overcome...yes, there are some truly rousing moments, many of which were blatantly stolen for AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, but there are also a lot of "Dear God, when will this END...?" moments. By the time the climax of the battle against the Builders ended, it was a complete anticlimax (Since the bulk of the book is climax after climax), and the battle against Thanos just tried my patience as I counted the pages until this ended.

So far, three volumes in, I really enjoyed the first one, hated the second, and could not wait for this one to end. This massive story is not as clever as Hickman seems to think it is. The only parts of this epic that are really clicking with me are the NEW AVENGERS issues that feature The Illuminati, mainly because they are more character-driven issues. A few hundred pages of cosmic-level Itchy and Scratchy fighting, fighting, and fighting goes a LONG way.

I've read Hickman's 'Infinity' collection before and I have to say that the added context that comes in this volume by interweaving that story with what was going on in the main Avengers titles at the same time made the whole thing a lot more enjoyable and filled in a lot of missing gaps, and now that I think about it, the same can be said for a whole lot of the missing information I needed when reading 'Avengers World: The Complete Jonathan Hickman Collection' as well. After reading this big, fun-filled sucker, it all finally makes sense.

Here's something that's kind of a spoiler but not really: At one point towards the end, Manifest complains to Cap about how exhausted he is from the last world-ending battle and how he doesn't understand where they're supposed to get the energy to run immediately into the next fight, and Cap explains that there's nothing special about them and that The Hero's Journey is a myth and that fighting the never-ending battle is simply what they do because it's there to be done, and then literally two pages later Manifest is talking to Thor who gives an inspirational speech about fate and how their entire lives had led up to this moment. It was just a really cute and sardonic moment of great comic book logic and character motivation and it made me laugh.

80/100.

No estaba acostumbrado a recordar tantos nombres, tantos lugares, tantos eventos que no he llegado a leer.

Aun así, acabo la lectura satisfecho y con ganas de concluir la etapa.

I’m thoroughly enjoying Hickman’s Avengers run. Across both Avengers and New Avengers, each issue expands the scope and raises the stakes while still giving every character, of which there are many (that is an understatement), a clear and distinct voice. Hickman expertly juggles multiple plotlines and manages to weave them together in a way that feels seamless and intentional.
This volume delivers two major story threads: Captain America and the Avengers battling the Builders across the cosmos, and Iron Man with the Illuminati confronting Thanos and the Black Order. Both narratives are compelling in their own right, and the way they unfold side by side creates real tension. You’re constantly torn between wanting to follow one storyline or the other, and watching them collide makes the experience even more engaging.
Without giving anything away, this volume is massive in scale and an incredible read. While it occasionally feels a bit long and the pacing can be uneven due to the emotional highs and lows, the overall experience is absolutely worth it. I had a blast reading it, and I highly recommend this volume to anyone following the series.

I like this entry in the Hickman run. It was a bit hectic at times because there was a feeling that there was a lot going on. Hickman manages to tie the whole thing together and bring back in a way that for the most part is easy to understand. I should mention the infinity storyline itself was interesting but the end kind of felt a bit underwhelming. But that aside if you like major crossover events and action then this is a great read for you. One last thing is I would highly recommend that you start off with Vol. 1 and read your way up to this volume you will be to understand a lot more. Anyways cheers and hope this review helps.

Realistically a 4.5
This is just so ridiculously epic
The way Hickman brings us from battle to battle flows seamlessly across issues and arcs as a whole
There’s moments both intimate and grand, and the whole volume feels isolated, but also part of the grand narrative this is building into
The Builders themselves were a bit undercooked in my opinion, but I had a ton of fun with this volume

🌟 4.5/5

A story about multiverses collapsing, intergalactic wars, and mad titans. It was pretty awesome. A very lore heavy novel with references to so many corners of the Marvel mythos. Even as a huge Marvel Comics fan, there were moments I had to dig deep in my brain to fully understand what was happening. Overall an amazing story.

Theres something really satisfying to me about reading a big huge Hickman event book. This thing builds and builds into such a huge explosion that not all events manage to get. Hickman gets scale, and stakes. The art is gorgeous too, Opena being my personal stand out.

Not really a fan of two stories happening at the same time, so I found myself sometimes really perplexed by the sudden switch of point of view. Love how it all came together in the end though.

It’s sort of a given that you have to accept that in comic books nobody important is really gonna die, but I really do think Hickman wanted to kill some characters in this epic universe-spanning war and just wasn’t allowed to. It strains credulity even for comic books

Yeah this one was wild. Facing two world-destroying entities at the same time should be confusing, but it really isn't. This was incredible and I couldn't put it down
