I have heard of this book Alexi Kathakal from an FB books group. I got the book off Amazon. In fact, I'm a huge fan of the Holmes stories. That's one of the reasons I bought this book. When it comes to review, the main positive is zero lag and great moments of excitement. Even if we see some little missing links or if we feel illogical in some places, we can overlook them. Because the narration is very beautiful and convincing. I would recommend Alexi and his investigative stories to all those who like thrillers. All the best to the author. Awaiting his next title.

സ്ഥിരമായി വായിക്കുന്ന ആളല്ലെങ്കിലും ഡോയൽ ജൂനിയറുടെ അലക്സി കഥകൾ ഇന്ന് വായിക്കാൻ ഇടയായി. അലക്സി കഥകൾ വായിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോൾ ഷെർലക് ഹോംസിന്റെ മലയാളം വേർഷൻ ആണെന്ന് തോന്നിയെങ്കിലും ചില പേജുകൾ കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ ഒരു ഡിറ്റക്ടീവ് സിനിമ കാണുന്ന പോലെയോ അലക്സിയുടെയും ജോണിന്റെയും കൂടെ ഇൻവെസ്റ്റിഗേഷൻ നടത്തുന്നതോ ആയ ഒരു ഫീൽ ആയിരുന്നു.
തീർച്ചയായും, രഞ്ജു കിളിമാനൂർ ഷെർലക് ഹോംസ് കഥകളുടെ സ്പർശം നൽകിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഡയലോഗുകൾ നാടകീയമായിരുന്നു. പക്ഷേ, കഥകളിലേക്ക് കടന്നപ്പോൾ, കഥകളുടെ ശൈലി എനിക്ക് അത്രയൊന്നും തോന്നിയില്ല.

I enjoyed the stories in this one more than the Antique Shop Case. I am aware that all five (4 from this collection and the Antique one) were written around the same period. Even then I am able to get more thrills from the stories in this one.

On the basis of writing this book too have the same negatives as the other one. The descriptions are sometimes lengthy and the backstory for the criminals utilise dramatic elements. This dramatic nature takes away from the enjoyment at times.

There is a fine balance of pulp fiction and crime writing that the author is trying to make use of here.

I will keep an eye out there for more works from this author as he shows promise of improving.
