Dr. K.N. Ganeshaiah is an agricultural scientist and professor at the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore. He is also a novelist specializing in thrillers, and writes in the Kannada language.

Prof Ganeshaiah has pioneered a new style of writing novels and short stories in Kannada that seamlessly mixes facts and fiction in the form of thrillers. Through this style, his writings have captured a new generation of readers in Kannada contributing to the growth of story writing in Kannada.

Though an agriculture scientist, his novels and stories bring to the reader, the lesser-known and hidden facts of history along with science. Some of
his novels are also aimed at bringing the most complicated elements of science to the general reader.

Recognizing the novelty in the style of writing, he was awarded Kannada Sahitya Academy Datti Award for his novel Kanaka Musuku, which combines both history and science. As some experts have inferred, his thrillers have drawn a large number of new readers to Kannada.

In recognition of his novel contribution to Kannada Literature, Prof Ganeshaiah has also been honored with the Honorary President of Kolar District Sahitya Parishat during 2013

Prof Ganeshaiah has written Nine novels, and 41 short/long stories (in eight collections) and over 63 essays in the areas related Science and Society. His recent book Sasya Sagga on the wonders of plant life as told through his own journey in the field of botany and evolution has attracted your readers. Several of his novels and stories were serialized in Kannada Weekly Magazines

' ಗುಡಿಮಲ್ಲಮ್ ' ಕಥಾಸಂಕಲನ ಗಣೇಶಯ್ಯನವರ ಓದುಗರಿಗೆ ಚಿರಪರಿಚಿತ ಶೈಲಿಯದು.

ಮೆಹರ್‌ಗಂಜ್‌ನ ಅರಮನೆಯನ್ನು ತನ್ನ ಪ್ರೇಯಸಿಗಾಗಿ ಕಟ್ಟಿಸಿದ್ದರೂ ಆಕೆ ಯಾಕೆ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಲೆಸಲಾಗಲಿಲ್ಲ? ಇದರ ಹಿಂದಿನ ದುರಂತವೇನು?

ಎರಡನೇ ಮಹಾಯುದ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಜಪಾನ್ ಕೂದಲೆಳೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತವ ಆಕ್ರಮಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದರಿಂದ ಹೇಗೆ ತಪ್ಪಿಹೋಯಿತು ಆ ದಾಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸತ್ತ ಸೈನಿಕರ ಬೃಹತ್ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ ಮತ್ತು ಆ ಭೀಕರ ಕಾಳಗದ ವಿವರಗಳಿವೆ.

ಕಥನ ಶೈಲಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಸತೇನೂ ಇಲ್ಲ.
ಕೆಲವು ಕಡೆ ರಂಜಿತ ಕಲ್ಪನೆ ಎನಿಸಿತು.
ಆದರೆ ಗೊತ್ತಿಲ್ಲದ ಇತಿಹಾಸ ತಿಳಿದುಬರುವುದು ಧನಾತ್ಮಕ ಅಂಶ.

ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ/ಚಾರಿತ್ರಿಕ ಕಥೆ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಯೊಂದಿದೆ, ಇತಿಹಾಸಕಾರರು ಕಥೆಯ ಸತ್ಯ ಸತ್ಯತೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೃತಿಯನ್ನು ದೂರವಿಡುತ್ತಾರೆ ಅಥವಾ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ವಿಮರ್ಶಕರು ಒಂದು ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ವಸ್ತುವಾಗಿ ಇದನ್ನು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸದೆ ದೂರವಿಡುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಆದರೆ ಓದುಗ ವರ್ಗ ಬಾಚಿ ತಬ್ಬಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ, ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿ ಗಣೇಶಯ್ಯರ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳ ಗೆಲುವು.

ಎಲ್ಲ ಕಥೆಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ಇತಿಹಾಸ ಮತ್ತು ಸೃಜನಶೀಲತೆ ಹದವಾಗಿ ಬೆರೆತು ಸುಂದರ ರೂಪ ತಾಳಿದೆ.. ಲೇಖಕರ ಭಾಷೆಗೆ ಮರುಳಾಗಿ ಒಂದೇ ಗುಕ್ಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಓದಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ.

4 ಕಥೆಗಳೂ ಇತಿಹಾಸದ ಒಂದೊಂದು ಎಳೆಯನ್ನ ಹಿಡಿದು ಹೆಣೆಯಲಾಗಿದೆ.
ನಂಗೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಓದೋ ತನಕ ಈ ತರ ಕಥೆ ಇದೆ history ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಅನ್ನೋದೇ ಗೊತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ.

ಕೆ.ಏನ್. ಗಣೇಶಯ್ಯನವರ ಉಳಿದ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯ ಹಾಗೆ ಇದು ಕೂಡ ರೋಮಾಂಚನ ಭರಿತ ಅಧ್ಬುತ ಕಥಾ ವಸ್ತು.

ಇದನ್ನು ಓದಿದ ಮೇಲೆ ಪ್ರಯಾಣವೆ ಜೀವನ ಆದ್ರೆ ಎಷ್ಟೊಂದು ಇತಿಹಾಸ ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳಬಹುದು ಅನ್ನಿಸ್ತು. ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಓದಿ ವಿಮರ್ಶೆ ಮಾಡೋದಕ್ಕು ಆ ಜಾಗ ದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಂತು ಅದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತಿಳಿದು ಕೊಳ್ಳೋದು ನಿಜಾಕ್ಕು ಅದ್ಬುತ. ಲೇಖಕರು ನಮಗೆ ಆ ತರ ಒಂದು ಅನುಭವ ನೀಡುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ದಂತ ಕಥೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಒಂದು ತಾರ್ಕಿಕ ರೂಪದ ಮೂಲಕ ಹೀಗೆ ನಡೆದಿರಬಹುದು ಎಂದು ಅಂದಾಜಿಸುವುದು ಸುಲಭವಲ್ಲ. ಗಣೀಶಯ್ಯನವರು ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಪುಣರು. ನಮ್ಮ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಸುಕೊಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಬೆರೆತಿರುವ ಅನೇಕ ದಂತ ಕಥೆಗಳು ಹಾಗು ಜಾನಪದ ಕಥೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕಿ, ತಾರ್ಕಿಕವಾಗಿ ಅಂದಾಜಿಸಿ ಕಥೆ ಬರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಈ ಪುಸ್ತಕದಲ್ಲೂ ಈ ತರಹದ ಕಥೆಗಳು ಸಿಗುತ್ತವೆ. ಸರಳ ಶೈಲಿ ಓದುಗರನ್ನು ಸುಲಭವಾಗಿ ಓದಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಗಣೇಶಯ್ಯನವರ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಜ್ಞಾನವೂ ಹೇರಳವಾಗಿ ದೊರೆಯುತ್ತದೆ.

Gudimallam by KN Ganeshaish is an okayish read for me. It's a collection of four stories, interpreting narratives from the eastern part of India, written during his 'Suryavarma Yana' trip.

This is my 10th or 11th read of his works, and I'd have to say it's the least impressive. The stories lacked the zeal I was hoping for, though it's not really the author's fault. I had high expectations going in, but they weren’t fully met.

It's a book worth reading once, but not one I'd return to.
