So many of us today feel like we’re merely existing instead of thriving - and that’s where a purpose-oriented mind-set comes in. Living with purpose means using your gifts, in keeping with your values, to make a positive impact on the lives of others. But it’s not easy. Half the work of cultivating greater purpose in life involves facing personal and profound questions. What matters most to me? What do I value in other people, and why? What positive change do I want to see in the world?
Finding Your Purpose is designed to help answer questions like these and to put you on the path to meaning. Over the span of 10 engaging, empowering lessons, Professor Christine B. Whelan translates academic research into a program for making a difference in your everyday life, giving you a guidebook for anticipating - and navigating - the practical and emotional obstacles that may stand in the way of discovering your purpose. Whether you’re pushed by pain to make a change in your life or simply intrigued by the possibility of an even better life, this Audible Original is about possibilities and purpose.
It is, ultimately, an Audible Original made just for you.
I read this book to help a friend find more fulfillment in their life. It's looking like it will help find more in mine too.

A very introductory book on finding your purpose. There’s nothing ground breaking in what the author says however it’s a nice motivator and good place to start.
I’ve decided I won’t be rating self help books but will be giving it a yes or no to read and this was a yes! I really needed this! I love to listen to self improvement books on audio. It’s almost like it’s hearing a pep talk you needed. It was a very positive and informative book about life’s ups and downs and the ability to find our purpose. I liked how this book gave step by step details about how to rewire our way of thinking and speaking when speaking about our goals, life, dreams, aspirations , and purpose. I even took some notes in my journal while reading and paused when the author said to pause and reflect. I recommend this book for whichever season of life you are in!
It's like a combination of listening to lectures and talking to a counselor. Finding your purpose is the "why" of wanting to do something (e.g., feeling fulfilled in helping people or expressing yourself through art). Your goals are the "what" you want to have done (e.g., being a doctor to help cancer patients or having a book published). The information is basic, but it might useful to those who get inspired when hearing stories of how other people found their purpose.
Today I finished the audible original Finding Your Purpose by Christine Whelan. I learnt how purpose is not fixed changes over time and how its different from goals. It was also satisfying to see that people with purpose is more likely to be happy, successful and content in life.
To explain what is purpose, the author talked about the 3 workers who were doing the same work but explained differently what they are working on -
* Person 1 said that he was Laying Bricks. * Person 2 said that he was Putting up a Wall. * Person 3 said that he was Building a Cathedral.
Here we can imagine person 1 took it as a job, person 2 took it as a career and person 3 took it as a purpose. To find our own purpose, we need to ask ourselves -
* What Matters Most To Me? * Why Does It Matter? * How Can I Make It Happen?
Here are some of the things we need to keep in mind while thinking of our purpose in life. * Core Value * Strengths * Impact Groups * Fears * Anxieties * Commitments - Are these Commitments a Should or a Value?
This book could has potential but is too laden with simplistic "feel good" stories. This distracted from my ability to focus on the exercises.
Wading through the seemingly endless swamp of mind-numbingly banal vignettes in order to get to the useful parts of this book brought it down from a three star rating to just one star, for me. Though there are useful instructions, they are buried under far too much "story time." I felt like I was in Sunday School, listening to one over-simplified narrative after another, just to get to the fairly basic instructions of the lesson.
The audio only format exacerbated this problem, as it was difficult to skim through the fluff and get to the meat of the lessons. It also made it difficult to do the workbook like activities (which have some value) because it was challenging to "re-read" just the information salient to each set of instructions.
Books around the subject of purpose are of current interest to me to find out more and more of the science and the non-science about how success is linked (or not) to purpose.
This audiobook reinforces a lot of other literature out there though introduces many nuances and other studies that I was not aware of and thus I am very grateful for.
I like the style of the author and I am sure it must be enjoyable being in her class.
Whetehr you are new to the topic or you are wanting to find out more about it, this is a great read.
I remember that at the age of 15 I discovered the purpose of my life; very simple: to lose the many fears that I had, because since I was little I had been taught to live with fear.
Today I have achieved my purpose and I enjoy life very much.
And why not, now a new purpose: to make my partner and those around me happy.
That got me thinking about Christine Whelan's “The great courses“ Finding Your Purpose ”course.
The truth is, if you have already thought about these issues, the book is terrible, and if you have thought little, too.
A book about positive attitude towards life and leading it all with a meaningful purpose. Nothing very new in here, but good to go through it every once in a while.
Purpose, that is something that impacts as many people and leaves an ever lasting mark on them.
Purpose, that is something which can keep changing with time, it is not supposed to be etched on stone, i.e., you set it and then just keep walking that path for lifetime - rather it needs updating and changing all through the journey that is Life.
I listened to the audio version of this book and the narration was clear and easy to follow. I also enjoyed and found the reflective tasks helpful. I liked the link between chapters and the referring back in places. However at one stage the author classes reading and writing basic skills that don't really count on a skills list. And then moves on. Reading and writing are significant skills that not everyone has. There's no acknowledgement of the challenge in developing this skill. Speaking as a dyslexic it is disappointing to see this ablist opinion being shared here.
Indeed, nothing really new in the book. Yet, I liked the approach of the author and her attempts to explain complex phenomena such as purpose, happiness, life missions and goals through simple but scientific lenses. Additionally, I believe, it provides some great worksheets to reflect on own experience and reconsider aspects of life.
Listening to this audiobook was significant because it covered a topic that was relevant to everyone. We all want to understand how to lead a meaningful and satisfying life and strive toward our own goals. This book did a great job of emphasizing the importance of this and gave clear instructions on how to achieve it.
Well researched and presented. Excellent read for students or those wanting to gain insights into life coaching. Basically looking at purpose, not goals, values, playing to your strengths, working altruistically. If you’re reading “What Color is your Parachute”, then this is a good companion.
The concept of purpose is broken down into a course format that explores the science of purpose in this The Great Courses edition. It is well thought out and well laid out, but I failed to engage with it. Maybe it is something better spread over a couple of weeks.
Usually, self-help books like this are a bit sh*t but this book was quite good. Warning it was clearly written in America by a Christian as the regular mentions of God and Faith are a bit off-putting. But if you can get past those then it is overall a decent book.
A good self help book and Christine suggest that organizing trait not typical of those reading and needing of the “self help” books…. Make a list; two or more, make a plan; short and long term, get of your a$$ and figure it out….hahahaha
I like it. There was really good steps on how to get clarity on your life purpose and how to follow it. Left me feeling inspired, and it provided a few “aha” moments with some things I’d like to do to find fulfillment.
