Sugary crystal fruit trees glistened in the moonlight, casting long shadows on the shrouded white ground. I hadn't seen anything like it since I was a child at the manor, and it brought with it the memory of making snow angels. While serene and lovely, it came with an eerie silence. It did not snow in Elysia. A black crow landed a few feet in front of me, cocked its head to one side, and let out a loud squawk. I felt a sharp pain in my abdomen, followed closely by a second and a third, causing me to fall to my knees. Looking up, the crow had disappeared, and in its place stood a figure in a long black cloak. Betrayal is a powerful thing, Lillianna, and it comes in many forms. The figure held up a mirror and turned the reflective surface to face me. It began to crack, and with it, I felt myself tearing in half. My screams echoed through the darkness as the mirror shattered, showering down thousands of icy shards into my eyes.
