Rekindled love trope romance, 4th in the Fabulous Golds series.
Journalist Grace ran out on RJ Gold, heir to the Fashion house RGF after he proposed, because she wanted to be known as a successful journalist and not simply the wife of RJ. Now ten years later she attends a Gold family wedding in order to write the article on RGF that will make her career. She hadn't countered on butting heads with RJ who wants to protect his family.
This starts off with the heroine at a disadvantage, in an embarrassing situation - something I hate in romance novels. Here Grace drops her dildo and it rolls off the balcony only to be stepped on by the hero.
It does get marginally better, Grace is a strong heroine and a great role model for African-American women. I like how she won't compromise on having her career, even at the price of love. RJ though bored me, he's too perfect and dare I say uninteresting. Devoted to his family, billionaire, handsome, great in bed... too good to be true... I tend to prefer a flawed hero or one with quirks.
There's virtually no external plot or impediment to these two getting together - though you do have to question why they were apart in the first place. I get why Grace wouldn't marry him, but not why she failed to explain, or why RJ never went after her, demanding her reasons. You seriously want to knock their heads together at several times throughout the novel.
This is an emotionally charged, sexy, re-kindled romance, and it handles the emotional side of things really well. However I tend to favour more plot, a more interesting hero and less annoyingly dense characters in general. It's not at all bad, just not one of my favourites.
