Goddess Magic: A Handbook of Spells, Charms, and Potions Divine in Origin

Rate this book
Tune into the divine power of Goddess Magic, featuring a directory of deities alongside 50 spells, altars, and exaltations to amplify your highest vibes and attract fulfillment, success, friendship, growth, love, and fortune.

Goddesses, both new and old, will lend their powers to those who seek their favor. Goddess Magic helps you channel divine power while also helping you find your patron deity of choice. Connect with your spiritual heritage and tap into the powers of your ancestors and all the mystical beings around you.

This beautiful handbook contains well-known goddesses from the ancient world famously claimed by witches throughout the ages as well as other, less common ones, like catholic patron saints, around whom specific spells and rituals have grown. Each goddess rules over her domain, protecting and inspiring those who seek her favor with traditional rituals and spells praising her. Her symbols, favorite offerings, and favored forms of worship are all explained in the same illustrated and informative way as the previous books in the series.

Here is but a taste of the powerful patrons you can learn about:

HECATE is the Greek goddess of witchcraft and divination. Her roman counterpart is called TRIVIA and both accept offerings at crossroads. She transmits good news of the future, resides as a patron deity over divination spells. She’s an excellent guide for new ventures and is a powerful guardian.

KAMALA is an incarnation of the Hindu goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and creativity. Invoke her to bring creative skills so that you can fill your life with pleasure and wealth of every kind by offerings of rice and ghee.

MARIE LAVEAU may be the most influential American practitioner of the magical arts. The notorious Voudou Queen of New Orleans dispensed charms and potions (even saving several condemned men from the gallows), told fortunes, and healed the sick.

SAINT LUCIA is the bearer of light in the darkness of winter. She is the patron saint of the blind, authors, cutlers, glaziers, laborers, martyrs, peasants, saddlers, salesmen, and stained glass workers.

YEMAYA is the Yorùbá Orisha or Goddess of the living Ocean, considered the mother of all. She is the source of all the waters, including the rivers of western Africa, especially the River Ogun. She is associated with the Orisha Olokin (Who is variously described as female, male, or hermaphrodite), Who represents the depths of the Ocean and the unconscious, and together They form a balance. She is the sister and wife of Aganju, the God of the soil, and the mother of Oya, Goddess of the winds.
The Mystical Handbook series from Wellfleet takes you on a magical journey through the wonderful world of spellcraft and spellcasting. Explore a new practice with each volume and learn how to incorporate spells, rituals, blessings, and cleansings into your daily routine. A great introductory book to working with goddess magic and setting up a practice. I loved the artwork in this book, absolutely gorgeous illustrations! I liked how many goddesses from different cultures and mythologies were featured in this book, it felt very inclusive which I love to see. This is definitely a back-to-basics kind of book though so the information on spellwork and altar rituals may be redundant for more advanced Wicca practitioners.

All in all, a great read!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me a free advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

Overall, there were some nice things about this book but I refuse to give it a good rating because of all of the cultural appropriation. You can't worship Orishas unless that's your culture. Same with Native American spirituality . And for goodness sake, Marie Laveau? Really? Voodoo and Hoodoo are closed practices. It's upsetting to see so many of these figures in this book. There needs to be more acknowledgement of the harm of cultural appropriation in the witchcraft and spiritual communities, especially because this book is clearly aimed at beginners.

Thank you go Netgallery for providing me with an electronic ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Overall this book is a great basic introduction to working with godesses. It's good for beginners, I like the illustrations, and the formatting is simple and easy to read.

This book is definitely from a Wiccan influenced perspective. Most notable the ways of speaking about "The Goddess" as an overarching feminine energy and the usage of "do no harm". This isn't a bad thing, but it's something to be aware of.

This book is focused on "feminine energy" but nothing in here is outright excusionary (as far as I, a cis woman was able to tell when looking for it.) This type of goddess only focused witchcraft has never really called to me. (My personal practice focuses less on "masculine" or "feminine" energy and more on the individual deities or whatever other energy I am calling on.)

If you are looking for in depth information about specific goddesses and deity work/worship this book will leave you wanting, but if you want a nice easy book about goddesses and how to connect with them, this is a great place to start.

Not entirely sure about the inclusion of Native American goddesses. I certainly would not feel comfortable as a white person trying to work with or contact deities from closed practices.

This book is a guide to finding one's way into the world of the deities and learning to connect with them from a spiritual perspective. This guide is particularly useful for people who are new to this field.
Beyond that, it allows you to acquire a lot of knowledge about goddesses existing in many cultures. Whether it is to develop a connection with the spiritual world or simply to learn more for information purposes. Moreover, the book is quick to read and you won't regret it.
My opinion: I found this book to be very helpful and well organized. I had a great time reading it and, being a mythology enthusiast, I was won over by this book. I highly recommend it for people who are interested in different types of mythologies because one of the strengths of this book is that you learn about goddesses in many mythologies such as Japanese, Egyptian, Native American and many others. A great wealth of information! With this book you will learn a lot of information about these deities, about their powers, the offerings...

Goddess Magic by Aurora Kane
A Handbook of Spells, Charms, and Potions Divine in Origin

Drawing down the moon is something I have done to take in the Goddess but have never done this with a specific goddess in mind, invoked or evoked. This book feels like an introduction with a bit about many goddesses, their powers and offerings they might like. The book suggests researching the goddesses in this book, finding a few that will enhance your life or magic working, incorporating intention, setting up an altar, believing, taking into consideration doing no harm, being patient as you listen and wait, and then being thankful. As mentioned, this feels introductory in nature and a good place to begin as one explores the realm of goddesses, how to know them better, incorporate them in one’s life and magic working.

This book was absolutely perfect!!
I have been waiting for a book about this very topic! I've always struggled to find the right goddesses for my spell work, and this book is such a great fountain of knowledge and book for reference.
If I had to be picky, I would have liked each chapter to have had a slightly different colour scheme, as visually it all looks very similar.
However, I cannot fault the amount of information in this book. SO much information, but not at all overwhelming. I loved it!!

Very uplifting and "feeling fine" book, with powerful feminine divine spirits and energies! Methods offered here are very modern and practical. Indeed, this is a modern book. Yet I would love more information about the right conditions for some spells and rituals. If you need some comfort and even the manifestation of interesting desires this text may offer the answers.

**Thank you for the advanced copy! All opinions are my own.**

4 stars. Enchanting, wonderfully illustrated, and easy to follow.

This book is an incredible introductory guide to goddesses and deities arising from many cultures. Each chapter begins with a certain theme, such as "Goddesses of Healing" or "Goddesses of Fortune." The chapter starts off with dates of celebrations/festivals associated with a specific deity and a recommendation as to how to celebrate. Then each chapter delves into a specific goddess and gives background on what they are known for and suggested offerings.

The writing is precise, easy to follow, and great for beginners who come to the table wanting to learn more.

The aesthetic of this book is truly its most impressive quality. The author and editor put a lot of thought in choosing a beautiful cover, making the pages look just as lovely, and organized the information in an extremely appealing way to the eyes. Unfortunately, there isn't much substance in the content itself. It's a basic explanation of a bunch of different goddesses with no particular consistency besides large categories like safety, relationships, etc. It's a good guide for beginners to choose goddesses they may want to look into more, but other than that, there isn't much. The rituals at the end are also pretty basic level and do not come with much explanation.

This book is better organized than any web-search for famous Goddesses or their symbology. Wonderfully illustrated, I appreciate the extension beyond European deities. Broken up into sections based on the main attributes of each Goddess, I was surprised to find some even I did not know. Most Goddesses are forced into the box of "fertility" and "sexual desire" in our world but about half of this book teaches about the lesser known ladies that do not. Goddesses of creativity and joy, knowledge and reason. It is a new favorite for my shelf that I know I'll be going back to time and time again.

Honestly. I can't tell if I enjoyd the book or not. I was interested in reading about goddess from different cultures, but that was about it. The spells weren't that in-depth. More just affirmations really, this is the second book I have read by this author, I wasn't extremely keep on the first. So I thought I would try another and I'm not overwhelmed by this one either, so I won't be picking up another. Will I refer to this book? Maybe just for the goddess I personally work with. But overall? No. Not really🖤

A fantastic introduction to Goddesses from around the world, featuring information on multiple deities, their festivals, symbols, and rituals for bringing their energies into your life. I really appreciate that this collection goes beyond the big name goddesses, though they're all there, it's wonderful to learn about other cultures and mythologies. Easy to navigate, this is a fantastic starting point for those wanting to learn about, and work with, goddesses.

Goddess Magic was a quick read but sadly lacking, a big disappointment and I'm glad I didn't buy a copy. When I read the line "Although it's common for those practicing Wicca, also referred to as the goddess movement...I groaned aloud Wicca and Goddess Spirituality are not the same thing. The book does cover 60 plus goddesses and includes spells. For me it was a blessing the library had a copy to check out, I saved myself $19.99.

It had a good premise which caused me to request this book. I liked it, I just wish that there was info about the other goddesses that are out there. But overall, not a bad read. I read this book via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Book 13/69: Goddess Magic: A Handbook of Spells, Charms, and Potions Divine in Origin by Aurora Kane. A wonderful powerful goddess book to read out loud to my dog Winnie! I think her and I both enjoyed learning about a variety of goddesses as much as we love the mantras for various life moments.

This is a great book for beginners. I would say it's a stepping stone because the information is basic. You can find some goddesses you resonate with and get into deeper research from there. My main critique is that I wish there was more variety culturally.

Aesthetically pleasing, not much substance.

There were several things that needed to be fact checked. This reads like a beginner's blog post series, not a published book.

This is the tenth volume in the series and features deities and spells to allow people to learn about their patron goddess and how best to worship. Each goddess' entry is accompanied by art and historical information about them. Choosing a goddess can be made by intuition or when it feels a goddess is calling to you. Setting up an altar or meditation time to contemplate their blessings and areas of power.

In this book, the goddesses discussed are from different world mythologies. In addition to the usual Greek and Roman goddesses, there are Norse, Native American, Egyptian, West African, and Mesopotamian goddesses. They were famed for love, beauty, motherhood, relationships, truth, healing or prosperity.

This reference book is good for those practicing Wicca or magic and hopes to invoke the blessings of any of these goddesses. Even if it's not your primary aim, this is a good reference for looking into lesser-known goddesses to begin researching them and learning more about their stories.
