As some of the last remaining dragon shifters in the world, Uriah Maddock and his siblings are regarded as something akin to royalty in the paranormal community. It’s one of the main reasons their hotel has become such a coveted destination for Otherlings. All he wants, though, is to be left alone. He’s not looking for love or romance. In fact, he actively avoids relationships and all their damning consequences.
Too bad his meddling sister didn’t get the memo.
Kit Meyers is pretty sure he’s hit rock bottom when his car breaks down in the small, mountain town of Echo Falls. He has no money, no place to live, and no prospects. When a not-so-chance encounter leads him to the infamous Blackhaven Manor, he figures he’ll stay for a few weeks, earn some cash, then head back to the safety of the road. But all that changes when he meets a surly dragon shifter with wounded eyes and even more baggage than himself.
Uriah can’t commit to a houseplant, let alone to being someone’s mate. Convinced that Kit is better off without him, he’s prepared to leave everything behind if that means the skittish human will be safe and happy. Yet, as the days pass, he keeps finding new excuses to stay, until he’s finally forced to admit that he’s not going anywhere.
Especially when he realizes he’s not the only dangerous person in Kit’s life.
Now this one - Dragon it Out (love the title) is a hit with me. Again this is a fated mate HEA genre - One of Arden's favorites. This time the characters are nicely developed and the plot has some interesting twists. At 170 plus pages, there is more detail and development overall. I love the fact that they both have issues with being mated and that the struggle to overcome personal issues adds to the overall development. The challenge to be overcome is one that really works and even if it is a quick conflict, the humor used to work through it is awesome. While I love it, it is still short of awesome - but a really fun read.
This series is just so cute. I was excited to finally read about one of the dragon siblings finding their fated mate. I love Skyes meddling. She knows just how to trick her mark into finding their fated one without them clueing in until it's too late. There wasn't much steam in this one, but there was a plot. These are quick reads that move at a good pace. I can't wait to read about the othet dragon brother. I love a grumpy MC and he's even grumpier than Uriah.
The first two books in this series were absolute fluff so I was surprised and delighted by this one. For the length of it, it’s really impressive how much happened. I enjoyed the slow build of the relationship this time. The conflict seemed more realistic and less fabricated than the previous books.
Apt title. The longest book so far in the series. Kit was alright, Uriah was stubborn. Best bit was Emrys realising why congrats were in order. The mine was instant then delayed. Kit held his secrets for as long as possible as well. Dragged a bit making me doubt the next one.

Dragon It Out, the third installment in Arden Steele’s Blackhaven Manor series, is my favorite yet. Fated mates is central to this series but instead of the quick mating of the previous novels, this is a slow mating romance, in a novella.
Surrounded by a mystery and full of suspense, with just a fantastic couple at its heart.
Uriah Maddox, dragon shifter , brother to siblings, Skye and Thade, is half of our fated couple. He’s thousands of years old, yet still mired in guilt over a past loss. One that’s keeping him from moving forward with his life, even when he meets his mate.
That’s Kit Meyers, human, and someone clearly in trouble. He arrives at Blackhaven Manor in at most inauspicious way. His car breaks down in the parking lot and he doesn’t have the funds to repair it.
Odd how things meant to be happen at Blackhaven just when they need to.
Scared Kit and huffy Uriah, in full out surly mode, are a great couple. One , a human, in survival mode, the other, a dragon, attempting to flee at every second, avoiding the being he knows to be his mate. Plus two exasperated siblings watching it all.
Combined with a very serious danger to Kit in a past that he’s on the run from? And Dragon It Out is just a great exciting fantasy romance, with a touching romance, and a suspenseful side element.
Steele’s ability to add small scenes with secondary characters in a diner, just make this story that much richer.
I enjoyed everything about this. As I said my favorite so far. And loving this series.
Smooth flowing, well crafted, and really quick romantic reads.
I’m highly recommending this and them.
Onto #4! Grin and Bear it.
Blackhaven Manor Series: - [x] Purrfect Harmony #1 - [x] Night and Fae #2 - [x] Dragon It Out #3 - [ ] Grin and Bear it #4 - [ ] Pixie Little Liar #5 - [ ] Dead Over Heals #6 - [ ] Silent Knight #7
Another really cute story as Uriah finds his mate in a man on the run, Kit.
Kit has had a tough upbringing and now is in dire straits from his family situation. On the run for months his car gives out near Blackhaven Manor and he finds himself taking a job planning to fix the car and be on his way. It is a very confusing job as one of the owners seems to have an interest in him, while another seems to almost want him gone.
Uriah has never been proded by his sister and her mate sense before, but the prospect of taking over the newly planned hotel has him excited enough to do hiring for a day. This leads him to Kit, his mate, someone he refuses to get to know. Uriah believes his mate is safest without him and actively tries to avoid the man, all while worrying for Kit's safety.
These two men are in very similar situations of protectiveness and believing that they are safest alone. For Uriah it is that he believes those who get close to him could be in danger for their association and so keeps a distance to keep that danger away. Kit has a more immediate threat of people after him, but still believes that it is safest for all involved if he keeps running. The two men have to take the time to see that they are actually safer when they work together and when they accept the help of friends and family, once again bringing that love into their lives. It is very sweet.
Always good for a sweet story with a light bit of action, I look forward to more stories from the many characters of Blackhaven Manor!
I really enjoyed this book and thought that it was another good addition to the Blackhaven Manor Series. I liked being able to immerse myself in this magical world that Arden has created. This is a paranormal fated mates story between human Kit and ice dragon Uriah aka Uri. This book is slower burn than the previous books which I’m not made about. Uriah doesn’t react well to finding his mate, it has nothing to do with Kit who he thinks is absolutely beautiful but he believes he got his former lover killed because some men saw him shift and followed him down the mountain and his partner Sonja saw the gun before him and stepped in front Uri and took the bullet meant for him.
I loved that when Uri let the cat out of the bag about them being mates and Kit found out the truth about why Uri never told him that they’re mates and what happened to Sonja, Kit told him that she was a true hero and it was her choice to protect Uri which he’s discrediting her sacrifice with his reaction. Wow, Kit has been through a lot, he’s so bloody strong and I’m glad he’s finally found a home and a family that deserves him unlike his parents, especially his a*sehole of a father. I thought Kit & Uri were great together. I’m looking forward to reading Grin and Bear It next, as well as more books by Arden Steele in the future. I’d recommend this book, series and author to others.
Thank you for the ARC read, I voluntarily give this book an honest review. Kit is only there to get money for his broke-down baby, until he can get his car fixed he needs a job when the infamous Skye Maddock shows up to aide in his need. Uriah is being roped in his sister's meddling but arrogance in the past may just hinder any true mating. One fighting to stay alive while the other is fighting destiny but both troubles can only be put off for so long..right. i just loved the Immortality was real part and Kit's reaction was hilarious. Skye to recuse again even with her manipulative ways. Blackhaven is such a magical wonder to read, I just can't get enough of these amazing and creative characters.
I really enjoyed Uriah and Kit's story. Uriah a grumpy old dragon and Kit just a regular human. I loved Kit's character the most. He had been dealt a bad hand and he just persevered. He was so brave and strong and the perfect person for Uriah. As far as the background given throughout the story, it made for a great set up and story line for our MCs in the story. Even though there was an immediate connection between the two, it was slow going. Their journey was so well written you could not help but want them the get the HEA, they both so deserved. This was a great story of past hurt and finding a loving home for both. I received an ARC from Book Funnel and voluntarily read it for an honest review
Book 3 of the Blackhaven Manor series sees one of the owners Uriah Maddock a dragon shifter and royalty amongst the shifters meet Kit and its love at first sight. except and there always needs to be an except or else they would be short stories, Uriah has guilt from a past and wants to save Kit the heartache of being with him and discourages the relationship and plans to leave Blackhaven Manor of a sister site. however fate is never like that. love the way the author creates teh characters, intertwines the other characters from other novels in the series, you become part of a big family. also good marketing because you cant wait to the next book. read it and enjoy.
Kit was so sweet and deserved a good mate and it broke my heart Uriah ignored him and stayed away from him for a while. He eventually gets better but I felt it dragged on for a lot of the book and in a short story, it got on my nerves.
Not my favorite in the series, but these mate stories are my crack and I can't stop reading them. One thing I really like is there not sex every other page like there sometimes is in these types of stories. There's sweetness and loving moments too. Except maybe this one lol.
Happy to know the backstory for Uriah and Kit now. Honestly, reading these series "backwards" (that is, Hunter's Hollow and then Blackhaven Manor) is--for me--a better experience. It makes the redundancy of "oh, hey, mates! *watches it unfold as expected*" less tedious. (again, this is just me. your mileage may vary. aside from "they guy" being used as a descriptor for whichever dude isn't the current POV driving me nuts, the writing is excellent and the characters interesting. I just get tired of samesies, y'know?)
I really loved this wonderful book. Kit and Uriah (dragon) were so precious and humorous together. The world building was quite exquisite and the characters were unique and very likable (except the villains of course). I love the idea of a manor owned by dragon shifters and catering to all other paranormals (otherlings). I truly hope that this series continues on because it is fun, heartwarming, and very (not to mention gripping) entertaining.
This is a paranormal modern romance story, it is the 3 book of the Blackhaven Manor series and should be read in order. Uriah Mattock is one of the dragon siblings that own & run Blackhaven Manor and the last person he expected to meet when taking over the employee interviews was his mate, Kit! The author has consistently done excellent world building but this story added another layer of complexity to the characters that made me adore them.
This was my first dragon shifter book and I’m definitely intrigued with the trope. This is the third book of the Blackhaven Manor series and we get to meet Uri one of the owners of the manor. He has the grumpy, growly exterior thing down past...it takes a special man to reveal his softer side. Enter youthful, sweet and secretive Kit. These two were a fun and quick read.
I loved Kit and Uri, even though they were both running (one from loss and guilt and the other from rouge werewolves) they still took a chance on each other. I really wanted to see more of the new hotel, maybe in the next book. All in all a very enjoyable read and a great addition to the series.
Great addition to the series. Kit and Uriah are great together. I loved how Uriah's sister, Skye plays matchmaker. I also enjoyed how hard Uriah tried to fight to not acknowledge that Kit was his mate. I can't wait to see who the next book will be about. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Quite enjoyed this one. Dragon shifter, Uriah, finds his mate in human drifter, Kit. They have a bumpy start when Uriah fears Kit will be hurt because of him, but Kit also has secrets of his own. When those secrets come to life, they have to put their trust in one.
KU, paranormal, book in a series, fated mates, dragon shifter
This is the first in the series where one of the main characters is a dragon, so, what other reason do I need to read it? Lol.
Ok, nice fluffy romance in a fated mates world with multiple paranormal species. Vulnerable guy on the run from his past meets grumpy, stuck in a rut dragon who is refusing to move forward in his life.
Another great addition to the series! The characters were enjoyable and their relationship was entertaining to read. This one had a little slower burn to it, which was perfect for the characters and their situations.
Awesome trope:
-dragon shifter/human -fated mates -second chances -running from the past -independent MMC -possessive MMC -flying!
Who doesn’t love a good dragon story? One of the Blackthorn Manor dragons gets a story, and it’s just wonderful! Arden Steele truly has a way with characters! Highly recommended
I love love love how this series is short, but so full of life. For being an easy read the writing is perfect—not too much, but not too little when it comes to characters, drama, etc. Another fun one!
While the two main characters were great together in general, it’s the overall happiness you get from the story that really sold me. That last epilogue scene left me with a huge smile.
Loving this series; the setting, the characters, snark, chemistry, elements of danger, sexy times and romance. Now we have the beginning of the Bayou resort too.
This is the second time I am reading this story between a dragon shifter and a human. Neither of them wanted a mate. They didn't want their mate to get hurt. Of course they do get their HEA. Highly recommend this book!
I once again enjoyed the humor and scenarios presented in this book. My biggest obstacle was Uri. He wasn't exactly what I pictured him to turn out from the original two books, but it was still worth reading.
This one had a little sweeter build up than the other books, but still carries the same charm, light drama, and sexiness, that you expect from the Blackhaven Manor series.
