I’m homeless by choice. I’m alone by choice. I’m running away from my past, and I won’t ever go back. I will be safe. Only school isn’t. It’s as dangerous as my old life. The bullies hound me. I can’t have a moment of peace. But they’re wrong. I’m not weak. I’m not helpless. And I’m not about to take their crap. Because I’m the daughter of a killer, and if they push me too far… I’ll push back harder, and they won’t like it. I’m a survivor by choice.
I kept reading and reading hoping this chick would find her backbone, but I finally gave up at 60%. She lets some guy molest her twice. She thinks she’s some bad*ss, but she is definitely just an unlikable bimbo. I thought this was an MC, but it isn’t. The girl just rides a bike. I got bored waiting for her to do something except just stand there like a drooling idiot. I can’t figure out how this can be dragged out into four books, but I won’t be reading them to find out.
I’d do anything to be able to read an enemies/ bullies to lovers where the love interest doesn’t sexually assault and abuse the FMC. Why do I want to read someone fall in love with someone that chokes her and grabs her sexually just because she exists? FMC also does not stand up for herself even though she’s apparently a bad***. On top of everything the writing is very juvenile.
I try not to judge people’s fantasies for the most part, but I think when you cross into the territory of romanticizing being assaulted and abused you’ve crossed a line. Maybe this will spark some anger, but I think authors who put this type of content into a *romance novel* are sick. Abuse is not sexy and it is very triggering. I’m tired of feeling violated because I wanted to read a darker romance.
Loved pretty much everything about this book. Reverse Harem - Check Violence - Check Bullies - Check
Running away from home should better your life, not compete with how bad it really is. Erika trys to hide who she is but it just doesn't work in her favor. Catching the eye of the mutineers is not what she had in mind, and yet she ends up their target.
Book: Daughter of a Killer (Savage Reapers Book 1) Author: Lexi Archer My Rating: 5 Stars Reviewed by: Tammy - Book Nook Nuts
REVIEW This story is not for the faint at heart... We begin with Erika and no you will learn that is not truly who she is. Her young life started out bad, but got much much worse. Now she is determined though to live life on her own terms only... Bullies are going to make it next to impossible for her. School bullies are the worst and she has them in spades. I can't wait till the next book to find out exactly how the worst bullies will fit into her life but I am thinking she will whip them into shape too. Brett, and the Mutineers have got nothing on what she went through at the hands of her father but in the end whose hands would she want there for her?? Do not count this female down & out.
Erika thought it would be a simple final year of high school. After running away from home when she witnessed her father kill her mother she changed her last name and enrolled in high school in a totally different state. If only she had foreseen the Mutineers coming into her life. The Mutineers, Brett, Corey, Tyler, and Shane, are set on making Erika's existence at their school a living hell. Between insults and even a few physical assaults, they are determined to break her spirit. But Erika has been through worse. She has dealt with worse and there is not much they can do to her to make her leave the school before she is ready. She has her eyes set on Berkley as her college of choice and she can't get there without her degree. But there may be more at work in deterring her away than just the boys thinking she doesn't belong.
I felt like this book was a bit flat. With bully romance there is a fine line between cruelty and affection. IE: The boys can be cruel and shame the heroine but if anyone else dared to do it they would defend the heroine. There was none of that in this book. Also, in most bully romances the bullies may insult the heroine but they never call them ugly or fat and very rarely call them whores or sluts. In Archer's world there are no limits set on the insults they would sling. She made her heroine stoic and not really react to the abuse which only made the boys go harder on her. It felt less like them trying to bully her because they secretly liked her and more like they were grade school kids pestering the girl they like to the point of it just being incredibly annoying. There was none of that heat element to their interacts and when there was attempts at it it felt incredibly forced. I just don't feel the bullying part of this book was well done. It felt forced and unrealistic. Not to mention, how often they called her ugly was boggling. I would not have been able to see past that insult to swoon over the boys if I had been the heroine.
The plot felt very cut and pasted together. I get the general gist of the whole thing: Erika running away from her motorcycle club leader father who killed her mother. But it kept presenting twists as tidbits of the overall mystery of the Mutineers and their involvement with the local MC that never really got to any big reveal. I am in the middle of the third book actually and it STILL has not completely uncovered the mysteries of the Savage Reapers. I picked up the book because I was craving a MC Reverse Harem and this has the MC as kind of just an afterthought. The Mutineers aren't even IN the MC yet! So that was a bit of a letdown.
Erika was not a very likeable character and none of the boys were either. So it left the book pretty flat for me. But the subtlety of the overall mystery with the MC and Erika's father kept me reading on to the next book. I can only hope that at the end of this series when I complete it I am not as disappointed as I am in the first introduction their world.
This book had so much potential only for it to leave me annoyed. A motorcycle club presidents daughter, escapes her fathers rath forges documents to get into a fancy school (HIGH SCHOOL) in another state. So you are giving bad ass, but why did she pick a preppy school and not look into it more ?? Regardless her first day she is met with a bully she attempts to put him in his place but fails and now is a target for the rest of her senior year to this bully and his minions. They are physically and verbally abusive and everyone students and teachers turn a blind eye to them. Why .... their parents have deep pockets and they end up having some slight connection to a local motorcycle club to give more drama to their character.
The icks this chick tries so hard to be a bad ass but fails over and over again then tries to use her body as a sexual key to stop the harassment but even that isnt good enough. The book then starts to hint at her being this groups whore assisting them in multiple ways tugging at each ones heartstrings but it just touched on this when she has individual time with each person (when they are together they are huge dicks.) SO then she decides shes needed for the group and can help them in the ways she thinks they need which doesnt sound like it will end well.. spoiler alert... we dont know its im assuming in the next book.
While she tries to be friends or fix this band of misfits her past comes knocking to bring her home (we assume since the book ends on that cliff hanger). ((She is hiding from her father and uses a fake name yet one of the misfits is able to instantly find out who she is)).
I pushed through and finished it but by 54% through the book I wanted to DNF the book because there are so many issues. Literally, the author writes in one paragraph one thing and the very next it's the exact opposite of what was just said. I could deal with it if it were one but it's been 5 times and it's not something little that the author could forget since she talks about it nonstop in the book. I hate that because this has so much potential to be a great book but it's not even hitting the ok mark. I have highlighted my issues and wrote notes as well. Hopefully the author looks because if she would correct those issues the book would at least be 3 stars and if she would reread it I bet she could get it to 4 stars because it could be that good.
Also the relationships between the characters is confusing with how they talk with each other but don't resolve any issues they just start treating her differently in the last chapter or two.
This book is only the female character's point of view.
I read the entire series before submitting the review. This story has a lot going for it: likable characters, a smart heroine who isn’t too whiny or snarky, and fairly interesting plot. Unfortunately, there were many grammar and spelling errors, sometimes complete words are missing from sentences. Additionally, in later books, the name of the town they lived in changed from “Elk Grove” to “Elm Grove,” and Liam’s last name in the first 3 books was Haverforth, but halfway into book 4 it was Houghton. Fairly confusing.
Also, the conclusion felt kinda slapped together, like the author got tired of the story and wrapped it all up in a few pages with outrageous plot twists and logical inconsistencies.
This story would be greatly improved with a good editor, or even another review by the author.
Sooooooo I really wanted to like this book and I do but I am also kinda mad about it. Erica acts like a strong woman and with everything she has been through she should know better. Literally growing up with the devil and then going ahead accepting what the guys do to her doesn’t make sense to me. I get this love hate relationship but where is the line ? She’s so a strong character in some aspects. I don’t know the guys have more than crossed the line and I don’t think she should forgive that easily. Honestly in my opinion she should go back to Kyle.
The story has potential but we need that girl to get her head straight, get some revenge and get better guys.
I’ll be continuing the story because I want Érica to win but I am not rooting for those guys.
This book is an okay read for me so far. I like that the MC is struggling and not automatically getting an apartment etc—makes the story seem more real I guess. I didn’t like some things like the public forced flashing in the cafeteria…it didn’t seem realistic or fit in with the story🤷🏻♀️ obviously a strong girl would be able to hold her own and not cry about this type of situation so I can see where the character is emotionally strong in that sense, but I still don’t get the attraction when she gets nothing back in between. With bully romance I feel you need to hit that area just right or it won’t work and the author is not quite there or me.
Holy moly this book!! I was sucked into the story line and I completely put my life on hold to finished it within a few hours.
I absolutely love strong female characters who wants better their life, but struggles to do so. Erika gives me that and so much more! The character growth was insane not just for her, but for her men also. I really wanted to hate Brett, Corey, Tyler and Shane in the very beginning. Sometimes they were a little to much, but they really started to prove them selfs by the end.
OMG! I absolutely loved this first book! This book was definitely all about getting to know the FMC and I am anticipating that the next will be more in line with finding out more about the men in her life! This is my first book I have read by Lexi and I must say that I am going to go searching to see if she has anything else out there and will be patiently waiting for her next installment in this series!
First book to be read by the author Lexi Archer. I enjoyed reading this, definitely plan to read book 2. However, I would say the heroine is exactly strong. Fiesty? Sure. Baby girl has been through a lot and she is trying to make it on her own I give her props for that. When she stands up to Brett, Tyler, Corey, and Shawn? I'm iffy because she'll use her words, but the moment she's cornered by one them if not all she weak kneed. Still a good read
I'll admit I spent this whole book thinking it was a standalone and not the first one in a series. I was so frustrated that it was labeled a romance when there wasn't any. I just felt like nothing was really going anywhere and kept waiting for something to happen. Then I got the end and saw there was another book. I feel like I probably would have enjoyed this morning if I had known going in there were more books.
I had this in my tbr and wasn't sure how I came across it. Once I started it I cold not put it down. Slow burn and slow buildup in the best way! I can't wait to know more about Ty, Corey, Brett and Shane! Ericka is a strong fmc and look forward to her story unfolding.
I went in blindly, and as much as I wanted to like this story, I didn't. I did finish the book but will not be finishing the series. It just didn't spark my interest. I was hoping for more MC, but it was lacking. The bullies were more abusive and borderline assault. There was no disrespect for those who enjoyed it, but it just didn't vibe with me.
I hate when an author sells a strong female character and doesn't deliver what was the point of mentioning karate if she never uses it hot body also doesn't use it smart yeah right there's no romance in this the bullying and her forgiveness are illogical I'm so confused why ppl buy into this troupe especially when it's done like this
Pretty good. I like the characters but the fact is a little frustrating sometimes she stands up for herself and other times she doesn't. The storyline is good. Excited to see what happens next!
This book is amazing I love the lead in to what is going on and I'm not one for flash backs but it works in this book!! Erika is definitely in need of some friends and I actually hope the Mutineers help her.
I went in blindly, and while I didn't care for the book, I did finish it. I felt lost while reading it. I also didn't realize it was a why choose book and those aren't my vibes, no disrespect.
