A simple choice can change everything in your life.
Jen had it all, a career police detective, loving husband, the life you were supposed to lead. The only thing was she felt no life within. She meets Lyra and a fire fills her heart and life fill her eyes. Her life is upended by this passion. The characters are helplessly flawed but find a future neither could imagine. I started by reading Margaux Fox's longer read and simply enjoyed her story and writing style. This short story brings two strong women from different worlds who find a joy in this world where protecting your love creates Your story. Such a good read that touches the heart, challenges your write from wrong and makes you believe in love even at great cost.
ACAB but this was a fun, quick novella that really intrigued me from the get go! I loved the high stakes plot and, although I guessed the main plot twist pretty early on, the execution still managed to surprise me! The writing was much better in this than her rugby novella but I felt the ending of this one was just too quickly and too perfectly wrapped up for me. Regardless, I'm excited to try out more of Margaux Fox's novellas!
TW: off page rape mention, off page gore mention, murder, cheating
It's amazing what someone will do for love. Jen is a by the book police officer who is drawn to a sexy and deceptive woman. Lyra has had a very troubled past that she wants to leave for the right person. This story will surprise you.
DNF @ 23% I realized the writing is not for me (sentences are all very short) and couldn’t ignore some of the odd punctuations. The romance feels very insta-lusty but I should’ve expected that given the shorter length.
So fun fact this is a short story, I had not realized that when I downloaded it so be warned. So if you were wanting to add this to your TBR or were debating downloading it on kindle unlimited don’t be expecting an epic love story or some grand crime story. The romance is rushed, the police work is terrible, and I still can’t believe she was a detective. However, if you are someone who has been struggling about where you are in life and just wants to know if anyone else has ever felt like they were at a dead-end job, or marriage, or just wondering is this all they can expect out of life you might find you have a lot of things in common with the main character, just please use this as an example to not let love blind you from asking questions and if your cop? Run a background check on people you sleep with, please. I give it a 3/5 overall.
An irresistible read, turning a dedicated cop into a murder accomplice!
Ms Fox has certainly got a good imagination and a way with the written word. I enjoyed the play of the main characters against one another and towards the other. The sense of dread and fear of discovery, the disappointment in the inability of the police to “get the goods” on the criminal, was distinct and almost painful. The settings were realistic and believable. Really a good short read. I look forward to her next book.
I had already figured out the ending but it did not detract from the quality of the story. The length also felt right in that all we needed to know was there and the fact that it was told from one person’s, the detective, point of view. I felt it was a plausible story of a person getting in too far because they couldn’t stop obsessing over a highly attractive woman who knew how to use her charms.
This was an incredible story. From the very first page I was engrossed. I read this short story in one sitting and was caught up in the suspense, angst, and sexual energy of Jen and Lyra's relationship. To say much more would entail a spoiler so I won't. If you like a good WLW books this is a great read.
What a story! Oh my. This little novella has more energy in it than lots of novels. A straight woman finding lesbian love, and it's not graphic but it is so enjoyable. A law officer finding breaking a law is sometimes exquisite justice. Oh my. And let's not forget a happy ever after! Pure joy this story. Take a chance and try it.
What would you do for love? For true happiness? Would you throw everything away, would you run from everyone and everything you knew? Would you cover up a murder ?
Sometimes the known is scarier than the unknown and every risk is worth taking at a chance for something new and real
After being ignored again for promotion even though she was more than qualified, Jen decides enough is enough. The author has created a fictional story which I hope is not based on real events. Enjoy!
I was surprised by this storyline. I wasn’t sure in the beginning but I did keep reading. This author has always been very good and she didn’t fail me in this book either. I recommend this book and this author.
I just wanted to say that this was a bit of a let down. I am still looking for the Mystery. Sex was weak, Crime weaker. Short reading, but not because of the,,,Great Story. Off to my next Adventure, because this one was lacking.
I loved a lot of this authors books, but this one is not the best. Went way too quickly and was very unrealistic and was barely a romance novel. Honestly, could have been way better and still been this short.
Loved this quick read. It was quick paced and added a punch at the end. I liked the characters and especially how their emotions came through in their actions.
Just enough intrigue to keep my interest. HEA unlikely in my mind, but delightfully right for the protagonists. Read this story. You'll be glad you did..
The characters are incredible interesting and moving, their stories are so many written. Thank you for your hard work on this book and the rest of your books.
Lyra the Liar, the whole love affair was a lie but the feeling were present. Can love make you kill, read this short story to get your answer. A page turner.
I like how Jen and Lyra meet and they ended up having an affair because Jen is married and she is a police officer and she was investigating this drug lord and it ended being someone Lyra new and working with then Lyra ended up killing the guy and call Jen for help they buried the guy and one year later she divorced her husband and quit the force and ended living by the seaside with her dog and Lyra.

This “book” is only 51 pages long. Not a novel, not even a novella; I’d consider it a short story. While it is in some ways appealing, with an intriguing premise, it feels like it leaves so much unexplored.
But a short story, not a book. This is a good basis for a book, if the characters get fully developed, and depth added to the relationships. Enjoyed it, but left feeling “not full”, and wanting more.
