Well the quiet little conjuror has really come into her own as Nix has faced down all the Vampire Court could throw at her and all whilst getting to grips with her new and utterly perplexing powers. Nix might have made uneasy allies but there's still the matter of Drakon and his continued pursuit of the ancient clay vase that somehow connects to a prophecy about Dragons. With Demons showing up in unexpected places and the secret of just where Nix originates from its time to buckle up as yet again the author takes her readers on an amazing and non stop journey!
This was a fabulous addition to the series and I'm finding Nix to be a really well developed character. Yes she's usually in their shop and pretty much knows how to handle things but as she's taken further away from her comfort zone she is really allowed to shine. Plus her heritage will knock your socks off as it's almost too cruel where her powers come from. Obviously I can't say too much but her love of nature and her connection with life itself really comes to fruition in this book. Yes there are battles to fight, adventures to face at breakneck speed and glorious interaction with a certain too beautiful for words Vampire but that ending will leave you desperate for the next instalment.

The story progresses rapidly in this book. Nix finally learns about her past and her family. She also learns more about the mystery behind her power over plants and that her the true purpose behind her existence. What an exciting little morsel there is at the end and of the book. I can't wait until Book 4 is out and we discover who and what the heck Drakon is.

Nix has come a long way since the beginning of this series. She is finally coming into her power, and she learns of the fate of her family. She unites with her sisters and their beaux, and her main squeeze Ares, to pursue the evil Drakon, whose nefarious plans are close to coming to fruition.
Linsey Hall has woven all the pieces of her series into a cohesive magical quilt, the last portion of which is currently available. I'm hoping when the Triumverate finally saves the world (which I've no doubt they will do) that the series will continue in the world of the FireSouls with more stories about the not so minor characters like Connor and Claire and Mordaca and Aerdeca. Now those are stories I would love to hear. Strongly recommended to all fans of PNR.

The mystery of the dragons is beginning to be revealed and how it all links to the dragon hearts and the triumvirate this is one awesome final series and I love Nix and Ares leading us to the ultimate finale.

Origin of Magic by Linsey Hall is Book 3 of the Dragon's Gift: The Protector Series.
This is a young adult, urban/fantasy paranormal series that is absolutely amazing and while it may be geared towards young adults, this series will most definitely appeal to one and all. Highly recommended to PNR and fantasy readers alike.
Picking up where the last book left off, this story hits the pavement running. Origin of Magic is one helluva fast-paced, action-packed ride from beginning to end. With engaging characters, well-defined world, and all kinds of paranormal beings to tempt her readers, Ms. Hall’s world comes vividly to life with every creatively placed word. Ms. Hall is one super-wicked and talented writer!

another ridiculous book... i'm so glad it was free and i could practice reading speed on it.
Recap: (i wrote recap so i won't need to write again how ridiculous this story was)
Nix and Del went to the blood sorceress sister to ask about the beaker. they said that it was a vial of truth that could revealed a secret or untangled a prophecy and it was recently used by the master but it could be reused again, they only need potions to activate it and the only one who could made it was the maker of the beaker. they returned home and all their guys were coming. when nix were about to come in to the shop, she and ares were attacked by bunches of demons and mages who was determined to steal the pot back, along with kidnapping her. they failed tho. (duh)
the next morning, nix was about to meet Ares when suddenly a portal appeared. it tugged her forward and she came in, only to appeared in a dead but beautiful village that turned out to be her home once called Elesius. she learned about her past. turned out her parents were the monarch of that village and they were still alive but away. strangely, she was not allowed to leave, but then her parents returned. they told her that she was fated to be life that was why the town seemed dead, because the plants all gave its life for her power.
then Ares came barging in and almost killed her parents. after they settled down, they were attacked by Drakon's (what they called the master) people. again, they targeted her but after they killed the person who opened the barrier, they easily won the battle. later, her mom told her that the maker of the beaker was also the founder of Elesius kingdom named Ademius, who turned out to be immortal and he would expect her to come to him one day. but he was on a hide because it was either Drakon got ahold of him or he was running away from Drakon.
her dragon sense found him somewhere on the desert of west of America, on the Death Valley. she called upon her sisters to tell them her plan and gave the beaker to them for save-keeping. they asked around the town's people and an old man said that his niece could help them crossing the magical part of Death Valley. they paid the sisters, Bree and Ana and using their buggy, they crossed the Death Valley. after facing rock-man, acid rains, and giant snakes, they were left on a plain and the sisters return to their home. they crossed the plain but got attacked by phantoms. as usual, when things were dire, Nix got a newfound power, her core magic of life could blasted the phantom into oblivion.
they camped for the night because the sisters recommended not to cross the valley at night and the next day, they found the entrance to Hider's Haven, the place where they suspected Ademius laid low. since they didn't have 'permission' they were not welcomed. the tunnel where they crossed dropped, then the walls closed in, and they fought creatures made of gold and finally entered the haven after they knocked out the bruiser. a feral woman took them to Ademius and he gave the potion's ingredient and said good bye because his mission was accomplished and it was time for him to die.they returned back to P&P and after Nix gave the potion's ingredient to Connor, she returned to her apartment. she discovered that her magic could gave life back to dying plants and that was when her mom came. she confirmed that Elesius would die without her and she honestly didn't want to return because she already had a life in ancient magic but her goody in two shoes (fckin annoying) characteristic forbid her and made her felt responsible for its death.
next morning, the sisters and their too good to be true hot rich guys reconciled with Connor and Claire and teleported to the 'valley of darkness' in Serbia. they arrived to a supernatural market that reeked with dark magic and met with Torus, the dude that Ademius said would helped them found Drakon because he hated the drakon. he offered them fanged-horses to reach there and said that drakon's dark magic seeped into the market and its habitants.
they rode the horses through this black, evil cloud then Torus left them. again, they were attacked by fireballs and yeti. and stupid Nix and friends, they told her to face Drakon alone. speaking of love between friends🙄 she found drakon who was bathing in disgusting black oil and she tried to shoot him with an arrow HA! her stupidity was so vast i wished drakon killed her to save the world from being as stupid -.- then drakon pattered her with sonic boom and i was sure anyone else would have died. unfortunately, she was the main character so she survived because the vines gave her power and healing, and the Pukis came for help.
she used the vines to tear Drakon's body to pieces but then a black smoke in a shape of dragon came out and flew away. of course it was not over. then Nix destroyed the pool of oil and the whole castle. they returned back to magic's bend to have a dinner party. then (omg i love this absurd end), on nix's greenhouse, A DRAGON APPEARED FROM A DRAGON FRUIT 😶😶😶

There’s an ongoing plot about an artifact with indecipherable powers. In this installment Nix finds out that she needs to use it in conjunction with a particular potion to puzzle out the meaning of an encrypted prophecy. Del speculates about her ability to use her time-turning power to get in touch with the person who created the artifact. This left me wondering why she couldn’t just turn back time to a point where the beaker was filled with potion. That does seem to be the sort of thing she should do, given how her powers have behaved in the past. This is part of why I don’t like history-altering powers. They tend to break worlds and create plot holes.
I’m finding Nix’s new powers over plant life to be fascinating. Also her slowly growing connection to Ares–which, as it turns out, allows him to track her. I still find Nix and Ares to be the best of the three romantic couples, even though the whole “bulked, handsome, powerful, unusual, disgustingly wealthy boyfriend” thing is repeated as a formula for all three women.
Although the bad guy is still fairly one-dimensional, the rest of the characters get plenty of attention. I particularly like Nix’s mother–it’s nice that the protagonists aren’t the only badass women in these books. They are as a whole depicted as strong characters. The lands surrounding the bad guy’s stronghold are also interesting, as is the local guide the women find. The effects of the bad guy’s evil on the land are fascinating.
This isn’t my favorite of Hall’s Dragon’s Gift novels, but I’m still enjoying the ride and look forward to the next installment.

As we remember from the last book, Nix, Del and Cass, had found this old magic beaker that some weird, wicked, guy, Drakon, just had to have. What is so valuable about this old decrepit relic anyway? They were able to get it back, but what a cost and the fight was epic! Every book we find out more about this Drakon dude. He’s one serious, black magic user if ever there was one! And we keep hearing his name and more about what the Triumvirate is supposed accomplish. This all by itself should send shivers down your spine!
Nix is still the main character and Ares is popping up more and more. She seems to have the HOTS and COLDS for Ares, and he for her but they still are not sure of each other. The book begins in Magic’s Bend where Nix and Del have gone to visit Aerdaca and Mordaca, Sorceresses of the Blood kind. They find them partying and hate to interrupt but do so anyway. Once the ladies see and touch the beaker, the story unfolds. Drakon will be their target again although in round about fashion. The beaker holds the key, and is more than it seems. Nix goes through a portal finds her family, finds she and they play a key role in their search for who made the beaker. With Nix and Ares leading the charge, its all players on deck. Their goal is to find Ademius, the one who made the beaker and enchanted it. It’s not an easy task especially when one is in hiding, doesn’t want to be found.
So pull up a chair get comfy and start delving into Nix and her Deirfiur as they find out just what is the Origin of Magic!

I’ve reached the point in this series that I reach where I don’t know what to say anymore in a review: I’ve said just about everything I can say in previous reviews. However, because this book deserves an excellent review, or as good of one as I can manage, I will say this book was excellent! Ms. Hall’s excellent writing, her plots, and her great characters are still present in this book. I said before that Del is probably my favorite main character out of all the books, and this book has in no way changed that. We’ve progressed in the plot such that everything is racing to the conclusion, a conclusion I honestly don’t want to come as this series is one of my favorites, and I don’t want it to end. There was one thing in this book I can’t say much about, but I was glad it was different then her sisters’ story. I’m curious as to what happens with part of that story. And the end! What an ending! I can’t wait for the sisters to discover THAT! Intrigued? Well, read this book and find out what I’m talking about. If you are a fan of this series, this book will not disappoint. If you are new to it, start at the beginning for a wild ride. Highly recommend! Thanks to the author for the e-book which I reviewed voluntarily.

When I first stumbled upon the Dragon's Gift series I didn't realize that there are three separate series devoted to the friends of Nix and Nix herself. So, essentially I am reading the series out of order. Although I prefer to read a series from the beginning I do not thing that it will make much difference with this one.
I'm "Origins of Magic" the third book in the Dragon's Gift Protectorate series things are really coming to a head. Nix comes face to face with the last she had forgotten and we learn more about the world in which she came. She is also getting closer to discovering the secrets of the vase/beakers and now she find she can no longer wait to see what Drakon has planned. She must find and try to destroy him.
I'm this installment we get to read a little bit more about the supporting characters as well as meet new ones. The world in which Nix and her friends operate is still exciting and fresh but I will admit that the dialogue between Nix and Ares is getting a little stilted. It seems he is constantly asking her one thing over and over: "Are you alright?" Okay, enough already! Let's get on with a bit more with building their relationship. Hopefully, that will more forward in book four. While I wait for the next installment to be released, I plan to read the series devoted to Cass and Del. This should be interesting.

Mr. X has an endless supply of minions willing to kill themselves rather than be captured. So his henchmen have convenient Dragon tatoos for ease of identification before they turn to dust.
The heroine has just spent the last book and three or four days fighting for her life and her biggest concern is whether her "boyfriend" of less than a week is serious about her. I'm just a guy but I didn't think women in the middle of a life and death struggle thought like that and still hope that's not normal. I'm still working on my societal conditioning towards sexism and know I've got more work to do but these kind of portrayals just seem wrong to me.
That the heroine was abandoned and/or kidnapped by the really bad monster as a teen, doesn't make her parents seem like prize winners. To not have issues with them because of that is better than I could ever be. I didn't need to be constantly reminded that all her friends have great tough, handsome, relatively well heeled boyfriends every third page. I don't think I'm gay but it almost made me wonder if I should be jealous of her girlfriends myself. That's not character or relationship development. I don't know what it is except that it was uncomfortable.
What is up with dragons? Are they bad, are they dead, are they wildly dangerous or just powerful? Is she a dragon? Before I could finish the book, I stopped caring. I won't be reading any more of this series.

That ending was perfect!
It really was because it’s that kind of ending that gets me all kinds of excited for what’s coming next and has me making grabby hands.
But as that is the ending, and I’m not going to spoil it for anyone who has yet to read the book, we’ll get to starting about my thoughts on what led up to the ending.
I’m really liking how Nix’s story is playing out. Though there are times where I do feel as if the story drags a bit, overall I’m liking how everything is unfolding overall. I feel as if we are getting to the heart of who Nix is and the role she was fated to play much quicker than with Cass and Del’s stories. Also, I’m enjoying how everything is coming full circle with the Triumvirate as well as the Drakon/dragons storyline. I’m liking how the Ares/Nix romance is moving along and hanging out with the rest of the crew is always a good time.
So, with that ending and what they’ve learned about Drakon and what his plans are, I’m definitely looking forward to the next installment and where it takes us!

That ending was perfect!
It really was because it’s that kind of ending that gets me all kinds of excited for what’s coming next and has me making grabby hands.
But as that is the ending, and I’m not going to spoil it for anyone who has yet to read the book, we’ll get to starting about my thoughts on what led up to the ending.

Hahaha just read Penny Noble's review and I have to agree, it gets harder to review a series as they go, especially in my case when all I want to say is 'these books are amazing, why haven't you read them yet!' You can only say that so many times before people start questioning whether you are being paid to write good reviews. Trust me when I say I only write 5 star reviews for books I love, and ONLY for books I love (and no I don't get paid to write these reviews but I do get the opportunity to read these amazing books before they are published).
In this book we finally get to find out more about Nix's family, and I love it!
Nix's history and how her past is reflected in her abilities is truly fascinating, and I love seeing her powers develop and grow. We are definitely setting up for the epic end of this series, which makes me so sad but at the same time so excited to see what is coming next. If you have followed this series from the beginning you also realize it has gotten progressively better. As the sisters all come into the knowledge of who they are as individuals, they become stronger together. Now as Nix comes into more knowledge of who she is she also learns more about her magic. Not only is she becoming more secure in who she is she is finally becoming secure with what she brings to the table and when she needs to bring it on, she does just that. As far as action and intrigue and of course the sweetness of new found innocence of love peeking through this author combines it all and does it well. The fact that I haven't gotten bored not a once in any of the stories after all this time speaks volumes of this author's skills. I highly recommend each of the series.

Origin of Magic is my favorite book in the series, so far. I think Linsey Hall has been keeping secrets, and I LOVE it! Nix always had a kind of sidekick vibe going. While Cass and Del are out doing their thing, she was usually hanging back in the shop, unless there was something big happening. Well, come to find out, Nix has some serious skills, and they are making one heck of a story. She is facing off with one of the most powerful and evil bad guys yet, and she is still figuring out her powers. She is learning a lot about herself in this set of books, and it is very exciting. Ares might be my favorite guy in the books, and he has some crazy power too. I really can't wait to see what comes next, especially after that ending. Holy moly! I received a complimentary copy of this book.

This was truly amazing in every way. The story is so rich with imagery and the action is never ending. The characters are so lovable and so bad-assed. Strong female leads and strong male partners/partners in the making. Without giving anything away, which would be criminal on my part, I was stunned and a little overjoyed with the ending. I can't wait for the next two books! This is so good the 5 books should be combined and sold as one book. I know it would probably be over a thousand pages, but read in its entirety it would be awesome! And I'm saying this after book 3, so take that for whatever you think it's worth. I highly recommend this book to everyone who loves fantasy-adventure. Well worth every minute of your entertainment time!

The story is good enough and the writing OK too. There are a few editing issues in the book which really niggled at me - firstly, 'shined' really isn't a word - and there were a LOT of things in this book which shone. There was another major faux pas with the Author calling Cass by the name of Nix - and when written in the first person (that being Nix herself) is a major gaffe. I actually noticed this also happening in the first book once, but although confused, thought there must be another person named Nix in the friendship group. You would think by book 3 that the Author would know who her characters actually are and which perspective she is writing from .....

I loved Nix and Ares in their quest to find out more about the potion for the mysterious beaker. This is another awesome addition to this series with plenty of action and sass. I'm loving following Nix and getting to go along with her to remember her past and figure out her future. This is a really awesome book with a killer cliffhanger of an ending. Ok ok not really a cliffhanger but freaking awesome ending with new info. Laurel did an amazing job and really projected the action and suspense into her voice.

Am loving this series, a great instalment and Nix is proving herself every bit as worthy of her role in the triumvirate. Now that she's finding out more about her past and her magic, she is becoming a far more interesting character and I am immensely enjoying her story. How on earth Linsey Hall keeps coming up with new ideas and magic, I don't know, but this stays fresh and riveting. A great instalment and I look forward to the next.

Nix with help from her friends the vines tear Drakon apart after he almost kills her. But what comes next is unbelievable. Drakon’s body was just a shell. From the destroyed shell comes a black mist like dragon. Now to find him.

I think Nix is my favorite
Nix goes from meeting her parents, and introducing Ares (awkward) to finding out she's the reason the kingdom is dead, plants-wise. She learns a little about her Life gift, but Drakon has his troops trying to get her because she is key to the prophesy he wants to fulfill. Some wild trips to an outlaw hideout for supernaturals in Death Valley, then the showdown in Siberia keep everybody hopping.

Nix is learning the truth about herself and her family while trying to find the Drakon. Her friends and Ares by her side, she is able to fight and destroy some of the evil. Yet, she still doesn't truly know the secrets that will forever change her life. Nix is a strong woman, capable of standing on her own to fight, along with her friends who are also strong powerful women. Women who are about to fight for their lives as well as the world.

Awesome ending
Highly imaginative and vividly described, this book brings to life Nix’s childhood home, as well as Death Valley and other places. We also get to see Bree and Ana in action again, which is a great treat. Lots of action, as always, but Nix’s big battle with the ultimate bad guy leaves us with a cliff hanger, and then there is the ending which hints at the beginning of something huge.

No spoiler here but that ending. I had no idea. I didn't even think of it and that's very rare. As rare as me writing a review bc I'm just so eager to read the next installment that I rate and go. I honestly thought del was my favourite bc I can relate to her most but nix and her cheese man, it's now my favourite and the fact that I bloody didn't see that ending coming. I literally said o-m-g out loud. Lol

Once again a good installment. What I have to say though, I would never read these series while waiting for the next book to come out (I'm not talking about the separate series with different characters, but each of the ones focusing on one main heroine). For the story to feel whole, fullfilling etc., it really needs to be read one after the other. To me, it's got this sort of a "tv show" type of format more than "separate movies" one, if I had to compare it to something.

i definitely skimmed this book and i think i'll probably end here. i wasn't sure how i felt about nix seeing her birth parents/homeland and this book for some reason seemed to jump all over. nix always manages to learn a power or control a specific power right at the perfect make or break moment and for some reason i lost my interest in this series. nix and ares are definitely a thing now and ares has joined her found family.

Wow another amazing story
Omg I loved the ending so much! I can't wait to see what Ms. Hall has coming next. Nix has always been the one that never really stood out but she really came into her own in this book. I'm so amazed and bowled over! This story defy's logic and reason which makes the story so much more intense. Good job!

Dragons and Warriors what more can you ask for. The 3 sisters are at it again with their men right alongside them fighting things that from the past as well as the present. Demons popping up out of nowhere raising cane and secrets being revealed slowly. Nix is coming into her gifts with the help of the team. Linsey Hall brings you into her world and captures your heart and soul.
