Love’s Deadly Hold

Rate this book
Life was bliss for thirty-one-year-old Simbi Evans. She was married and enjoying every moment of life with her love and her talking feathered best friend, Angela Bassett. However, one trip to get bird food unravels a deadly, dark secret that she had no knowledge existed. Now she’s forced to live in witness protection under a new alias. Although her usual routine had changed, she finds normalcy in her new small business. Her life has balance and a whole new meaning, until a devilishly handsome and rude stranger enters her concealed world. Linen Sheats’ life revolved around three necessities; his family, girlfriend, and semi pro football career. On the greatest day of his life, his whole world was flipped upside down. Life as he knew it was over. Now he’s left a shell of who he once was. Refusing to wallow in his misery anymore, he takes his sister up on her offer, and now they’re business partners. They’re thriving and doing quite well, but he’s no longer a gentleman or lover. He’s downright rude and heartless and he has no intentions of changing. That is until he meets the beauty that peddles her business in front of his store. There is a chance that both could find love and solace, but the deadly hold on love could cause one or more of their lives to be snatched into the dangerous clutches of the past. Will they risk it? Or will the past intervene before they can?

Simbi was in pure bliss! She had the man of her dreams and a life she’s always wanted to live! Things took a turn however when she stumbled upon items her husband had hidden away for safe keeping. The items discovered were more than she bargained for and now she is forced into witness protection and is currently living a new life under a fake identity.

Simbi went from hiding in plain sight to falling in love for the second time around and now that her past is intertwined with her present, she runs the risk of loosing everything yet again!

This was actually one of Wynta’s better reads. The story was well written and made sense for the most part. My only issue is that the ending felt rushed and the story started to become predictable after a while. Some things were a dead give away and I don’t like when I figure out the plots so easily.

I’m going to give Wynta’s catalog a rest for a bit and maybe or maybe not come back to it later.

This was my introductory read by Wynta and it won’t be my last! There was a little bit of everything in this book: torture, suspense, comedy, and love. Anybody that can mix all of that together has a talent you won’t want to miss!

This book may contain triggers for some so read with caution. This was a really good book and Simbi/Canarie was a very strong woman and deserved all the love she eventually received. Linen (I wasn’t too fond of the name) seemed like a good man and I’m glad he finally got out of his own way and allowed what he felt for Canarie to blossom. But that Tame was really a monster. This was a really good book.

The preface made me giggle. In the prologue I realized she wasn’t kidding. She jumped right into the nitty gritty. The story line was really good, but the writing style wasn’t my fave. The cover is what pulled me in, I loved it. Giving this a 3.5 and rounding up.

The cover was the first thing that drew me to this book.
It's different, and I love it.
It doesn't really fit the story and DOES fit the story at the same time.

How?
Because this story - from the cover image, the character names, the dialogue, and the premise - is COLORFUL. It threw me at first.

I read the prologue & immediately typed a note in my phone asking myself, "What am I reading?".

Maybe because I just finished a Black Romance novel and just randomly picked this up through a recommendation? IDK.

So, it's supposed to be a thriller? But as someone who reads actual thriller & suspense novels, it didn't really give off that feeling. The warning in the beginning & its description as a Black Mystery, Thriller, & Suspense Fiction is kind of laughable to me.

This whole book left me with such a outlandish & comedic feeling, but in a good way.

I enjoyed it. I liked that it was short too.

Even though the story seems kind of left field & the plot & character's actions seems a little strange & random, I am happy to have read it.

I mean, there is a African grey parrot named Angela Bassett that is literally a driving force behind much of the plot. & the characters names? Tame, Simbi, Linen Sheats, Canarie Feathers??? Right.

A nice, tidy HEA to tie up everything? *Chefs kiss.*

I will read more of Ms. Wynta Tyme. Because why not?

Okay Wynta Gurl! First off, your preface had me scared to read this at night or while home alone!
I know how you do! 😂 Tame was the devil walking amongst us! Damn! Just sick and evil! Poor Simbi got the brunt of his anger, trying to save others, all while leaving her scarred. She was so brave to do what she did, and tried to move on with her life. Linen was dealt a hell of a blow! All on the same day too! His anger and grief caused him to act out, and turn into a person no one recognized. Seeing and meeting Canarie, jolted his whole understanding! She made him feel something, and he was afraid of what that meant. Linen and Canarie's constant insults were funny as hell, but were defense mechanisms for them both; as they were weighed down with baggage from their traumas. I had to pick my jaw up off the floor when it went down in Linen's parents house with the agents! Like what the.....? How did he?? Linen did some quick thinking and took out the trash! So happy that things worked out in the end, but hope there is more to their story. Really enjoyed it! 👍👍👍

It's always the rude heartless larger than life man that ends up being faces with a carefree loving woman. Neither were looking for love nor were they even open to the idea. The banter that Linen and Simbi (Canarie) have is top tier. Like how do you just get off on getting under someone’s skin for the sake of it and look for them all while pushing them away? Both having a back story that would take out most. Like really who TF did Siimbi marry and the connection between the two stories as if fate knew they needed each other. While they both were focused to cope and heal. This is definitely a suspense and mystery I didn’t know I needed. Great book that is filled with action keeping your attention.

LOVED IT

Wow. This book was really good with the suspense at an all time high. Definitely had my attention from beginning to end. Very well written, great character development and storyline. I loved how the author gave us two characters who are trying to cope and heal from their flaws but somehow become unknowingly connected by their past. Canarie's strength was amazing and I loved how she was not going to allow her past tragedy define how she moved forward with her life. Canarie and Linen were perfect for each other and got the happy ending they deserved.

Baby I’m still scratching my head lol this short story was a wild ass ride. It was definitely giving “ReesaTeesa | who tf did I marry” energy. I don’t know what I was expecting but it definitely wasn’t none of what I read 🤣🤣🤣

Some of the scenarios in this book were super unrealistic but I think that’s what made it enjoyable. The banter between the characters was hilarious lmao I literally laughed out loud a few times.

This book was dark & twisted in so many ways but I had a good time with it.

WOW!

The banter between Simbi (Canarie) & Linen TOP TIER… had me laughing out loud. What an emotional story this was… sometimes you don’t even know the person you marry! Both Simbi and Linen endured the unimaginable & had to learn to cope with life after. Linen, whew you provoked extreme patience with your character however, this was a clear depiction of someone grieving and the rollercoaster of emotions they endure.
“At any given moment the trajectory of your life could change”!! What a ride!

Canarie and Linen

I love a good suspenseful plot and I love a sweet romance story as well, especially one full of flawed characters. Combining the two is a match made in heaven for me. Ms. Wynta did not disappoint and this story kept me intrigued from beginning to end. The end felt a little rushed but it was still a good read. Some small errors throughout the book but not enough to take away from the story itself. I definitely recommend.

A perfect mixture...

Of romance and suspense, two of my favorite reading genres combined! And the action between Linen and Canarie was just as captivating as the case they found themselves embroiled in through no fault of their own! Let me tell you, the beginning of this book is not for the faint at heart 😂. This was a good read!

This was a pleasant surprise. Don’t let the happy cover fool you, things get dark real quick (**check trigger warnings!!!). There was action, danger, love, sisterhood, all packed into a short read. Overall, very good.

on the run!

I love this story. Tame is the monster you never want to meet, and if you are single, have you questioned how men approach. I love the characters’ growth and the family's love. This story didn't disappoint.

First read by this author and I was engaged and entertained. A few details made me question the purpose but overall it's a good story. I could see this as a mini tv series because of the shock value, drama, and love story.
