I knew very little of the Boer war before starting this book. I know a lot more now.

I found this an interesting read. The writing didn't flow well in places and is of its time so you have to deal with the racist parts as best you can. The life of an Australian military person back then was a harsh one and I felt sorry for the huge amount of animals lost in the conflict.

John told his story well.
