Donk and the Stubborn Donkeys

Rate this book
#1 Bestseller Juvenile Fiction > Animals > Farm Animals Donk the donkey lives on Donkey Farm with his family. He may be the youngest of all his brothers and sisters, but boy, he is definitely the most curious of them all! Because his older siblings chase him away when he tries to play with them, Donk spends a lot of time alone. Being the deep thinker that he is, this little donkey questions everything and fills his days trying to work out why certain things are the way they are. One day, Donk decides to try and find out the answer to a particular question that’s been on his mind for a while. He cannot understand why the farmer is always shouting at him and the other donkeys on Donkey Farm, and why the farmer asks them why they are all so stubborn. Donk approaches everyone in his family, one by one, asking them to help him with his burning question. But his search is all in vain and poor Donk ends up none the wiser. Everybody seems too busy to explain properly and they all give him exactly the same answer. Apparently, that’s “just the way it is”. Feeling frustrated and dissatisfied with everybody’s identical (and quite frankly, very unhelpful!) answers, Donk takes a walk by himself by the stream. He is deep in thought when suddenly, he gets the surprise of his life! Jack the purple fairy donkey, the very same one whom his mother has told him about, the wisest donkey in the whole land, is standing right there in front of him! What will happen next? Will Jack be able to help Donk? Could he be the one to finally give him the answer to the question that nobody else can help him with? This charming story explains to children in a relatable way how negative labels are sometimes attached to those who don’t deserve them. Children are encouraged to question what they hear and to make their own decisions, rather than just blindly following the crowd and adopting certain beliefs because “that’s what everybody says”, or “that’s just the way it is”. The value of this story lies in the important lessons it teaches young children – to keep an open mind and to keep searching for answers to their questions. It validates their need to be listened to and encourages them to speak up about things that are bothering them. It also encourages children not to give up when adults seem too preoccupied to help them, but to keep trying until they find someone who is willing to listen to them and to help them out with their problems. This story holds great appeal for children all over the world because Donk is a relatable character who, like them, has many questions that he urgently needs answers to! This delightful donkey experiences the same feelings of confusion, loneliness and frustration that we do all at times, but the happy ending at the end of the story serves as a beacon of hope for any child who has ever wondered, “But why?”

Fun read that younger kids will love...

More often than not children relate themselves with the characters of a good story. In such circumstances, reading fiction can help them to get inspiration from the characters. These stories often portray real life implications through anecdotes, and as such makes it easier for them to understand the complex aspects of life. Moreover, reading these stories at regular intervals can actually help them to develop a positive outlook towards life, which eventually proves beneficial for good character development.

DONK AND THE STUBBORN DONKEYS by K.A. Mulenga is a delightful and charming children's picture book that makes a perfect bedtime story. The author writes in a wonderfully entertaining and imaginative style that will guarantee the attention of young minds. If you ever wanted to bond even more with your children or grandchildren, this would be a very enjoyable story to share with them. I read this book with my grandkids and they loved it.

It seems to me that this book was created with a lot of love and joy and it’s clear that the author really enjoys creating such wonderful stories. Thank you for sharing with us the gift that you have obviously worked so hard to refine. We’ll be looking forward to seeing what’s coming next. A well-deserved five stars from us!

An inspirational children’s book.

My two granddaughters just loved this bright and inspirational children’s book. It tells the story of Donk, a little donkey who’s a bit of a loner. He’s the youngest in the family, and nobody has time for him. All he hears the farmer saying is that donkeys are stubborn. Why does he say that? Are donkeys really stubborn? And, if they are, why?

Well Donk, like all young animals is curious, and tries to discover the answer. He asks everyone, his mother, his brothers and sisters, even the magical purple fairy donkey Jack. “Why are donkeys stubborn?” Everyone just says, “That’s just the way it is,” but that’s not good enough for Donk, he wants to know the reason why.

Children need to ask questions to grow as people, and develop their understanding of their world, and it’s the same for all creatures. In this bright, and beautifully illustrated children’s book, the author, using the cute and endearing character of Donk, has cleverly demonstrated to children that it is good to question things, and search for answers. Just because they are told “That’s just how it is,” that’s not a reason to accept it, or indeed believe it is true! This book empowers them to believe that they can stretch boundaries, and open new horizons, not only for themselves, but for others too.

Writing truly runs in the blood of Kalenga Augustine Mulenga, the author of this Amazon #1 Bestselling children’s book, and others. His father was the first black editor of the Zambia Daily Mail, and his brother was a poet. He started writing aged 10, but his passion has been reignited by his 11 year old son.

A wonderful inspirational children’s book which will be enjoyed by children either by it being read to them, or reading it themselves when they are able. Highly recommended!

Donk and the Stubborn Donkeys is a charming, delightful and simple to read children's book for kids 2 to 8 years old. The illustrations are a great addition to the book and only adds to the story. Young readers will find themselves invested and really relate to the main character and his journey to find an answer he does not yet have. I read the book with my nephew; well actually, he read it to me. We read it together twice and thoroughly enjoyed it.

A fun, colourful read which all kids will like.
While Donk travels through donkey farm, he wanted to know why donkeys are stubborn. He met up with several farm animals, but no one can give him the answer. When the donkey-fairy appears, Donk was at its wit's end.
The truth he hears will change his life for the better.
The page layout of the illustrated book's makes this a quick read. The colourful pictures and text to the point and direct.
A great tool for parents and kids alike.

I read this book on prolific works. I LOVE the moral of this story: speak life! However, I found the text hard to read on the green background and the illustrations were not my cup of tea.

Probably the first talking anthropomorphic animals were created by the earliest people who told stories to their children.
Many books with animals possessing human-like characteristics exist and DONK AND THE STUBORN DONKEYS is one of them.
The author is telling a story about a curious little donkey not only to entertain the young reader but to share an important moral lesson as children learn from anthropomorphic stories more effectively.
Also, this title is not just another story with cute animal characters - its narrative shows how we view ourselves and the world.
Honestly, the donkey illustrations confused me a bit - the individual characters were gathered from different sources and they lack style and consistency.

This book tells me about not all people in the world are stubborn. Because the person just wanted to make you believe him/her.
