Shut Up and Kiss Me #2

Teaching with the Enemy

Rate this book
Gilly Carter has kept her lofty inheritance a secret from her coworkers, knowing first-hand how money changes people. But when she’s forced to rely on more than her bank account, will she rise to the task?

After winning teacher of the year last spring, she’s pumped to begin the new school year. Her fantasies of rainbow colored bookshelves and students giggling at her math puns are dampened when she discovers Christopher Callahan, a one-night stand who ghosted her, is not only her co-worker, but they’re paired together to teach first grade.

While he’s kind to everyone else, Christopher doesn’t even try to hide his distaste for Gilly. He turns his nose up at her extravagant classroom decorations and accuses her of not teaching from her heart. When Christopher challenges her to a spirit week competition where neither of them can spend a cent, Gilly doubles down: she freezes her funds for the entire month, vowing to live off her teacher’s salary alone.

As they grow from enemies to lovers, Gilly knows she must come clean with Christopher about being an heiress, but a bigger threat looms—a blast from the past well-versed in blackmail.

With the freeze on her funds, Gilly is forced to do things the hard way. But if she loses Christopher in the process, no amount of cash will heal her broken heart.

4.5 Stars! Enemies-to-lovers involving a sexy teacher, yes please!

Jaqueline Snowe is a new author to me, but this book has made me want to read all her others!

Gilly - heiress to millions, but after being burned in the past over money, she keeps it a secret from her fellow elementary school colleagues. She's so passionate about her pupils' learning that she goes above and beyond to make their learning magical, mostly out of her own pocket. When a recent rare one-night stand joins the school and appears to both hate and not even recognise her, she knows this will mean war. Was that night not as mind-blowing to him? Why does he seem to dislike her so much? And what is Samantha (her brother's she-devil ex) doing in the school?!

Christopher - sweet and sexy, he really cares about his pupils, but just doesn't like the pomp and ceremony his fellow colleague uses to teach. He makes a bet that Gilly can't win the SPRITZ competition without all her gifts and gadgets, so they agree that 'not a dime' is to be spent. As 'buddy' teachers they start to get closer and closer together, but what happens when secrets are revealed? Did Gilly wrong him? Or did someone else?

There is so much drama in the form of secrets, blackmail and even theft! Plus lots of lots of steam!
At so many points I felt myself wanting to throw or scream at my Kindle, because just as you think everything is going to be resolved, Jaqueline throws another spanner in the works!

I only took half a star off because I'm a sucker for dual POVs, so was a shame to not get into Christopher's mind in this book. Still overall a fantastic read that I just couldn't put down!

No Cheating. No Cliffhanger. HEA guaranteed.

AAAH... I'M THE FIRST ONE TO POST A REVIEW OF THIS BOOK HERE AND I'M SO ECSTATIC ABOUT IT!!! WOOT WOOT!!!! 💃 I received an ARC of this book from the author, Jaqueline Snowe and i'm so glad to have managed to snag a copy! I enjoyed this book and the MC's.. I liked how different the setting of the book was.. The book cover is so wonderful.. 📚

I loved the colorful personality of the heroine Gilly.. She was like a sunshine girl who was loved by everyone and had a very outgoing, fun personality... I loved her journey from self doubt to insecurity to a strong self realization about the way she is and to accept and be happy about it.. It felt realistic..

Coming to the hero.. Oh man, I love an asshole hero who redeems himself to a great romantic hero and also makes the big grand gesture with his apology when he makes the mistake... I loved how Gilly didn't give an inch to Christopher when he screwed up and she stood upto herself and made him realise just how epic of a forgiveness he needed from her.. What Callahan did at the float was so sweet and amazing! I also loved how good he was with kids!

The plot had a nice storyline and as for the side characters, I especially liked Kayla.. She was like this sweet little ice cream addition to the book... This was a great work, so grab a copy of your own soon, readers! You'll enjoy this journey.. ❤

My ⭐ rating :
Plot : 5⃣⭐

I was excited to read this one because it's different than the first book I've read by the author. I found the story interesting and engaging and I liked the characters. Gilly and Christopher's relationship transition from enemies to lovers made me so invested in the story.

Tension and chemistry were instantly there between Gilly and Christopher right from the start. However, because of each other's weariness and competitiveness, they continuously butt heads. It's interesting to see Gilly's own self-development and how Christopher was the cause of that realisation of what her life has been. And Christopher definitely redeemed himself and prove to be sweeter than anything.

All in all, this was a fun and sweet read. I really enjoyed their story. If you like See Me After Class by Meghan Quinn, then you'll love this one.

Let me just start this review by saying Jaqueline Snowe is a one-click author for me thanks to her strong heroines, drool worthy heroes, and witty banter. Teaching with the Enemy is easily a five star read, especially since enemies to lovers is my favorite trope and Snowe does it brilliantly, EVERY SINGLE TIME. I adored Christopher and Gilly's story and am so excited to read book 3!

I'd read anything that Jaqueline Snowe writes thanks to her brilliant gifts for banter-y dialogue and depth of characterization, and Teaching with the Enemy does not disappoint! Follow Gilly and Christopher through a sizzling enemies-to-lovers story that's packed with drama, conflicted desire, and plenty of hotness. The setting felt so real and authentic and served to round out the characters with hopes, dreams, and lives outside of the love story. Their struggles leading up to their HEA rang as true as the payoff-guaranteed to satisfy the romance lover.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the Author. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Teaching With the Enemy by Jaqueline Snowe is about how two enemies become something much more than they bargained for.
Will Gilly be able to come clean to Christopher?
Gilly Carter
Gilly Carter is an heiress that is used to having money around and spends it without thinking much about it. The biggest thing I like about Gilly is that she's an heiress, but she's afraid of telling people that she is one because they might use her to get to her money. Another thing that I like about her is that it took her a while to get used to not spending her money, and she handled it so well. Sure it sucked, but she had a plan, and she followed through. Gilly's reasoning for wanting to be a teacher is also lovely as well. I'm not too fond of some things about her, but I can't say since they are spoilers. However, I will tell you that Gilly isn't good at handling certain things that she inadvertently caused to happen a while back.
Teaching With the Enemy CRChristopher Callahan
Christopher Callahan isn't a person who ghosts girls after sleeping with them and then shows up at their school to teach alongside them, but that is what happened. He seems like a good person who has a troubled past, especially when dealing with money. Chris does change throughout the story, and I love seeing that through Gilly's eyes. It was also cute to see how much Gilly loves him. Chris has his faults, though, that show throughout and make it hard for him to trust Gilly. The things that I like about him are that he makes Gilly a better person and makes her realize that maybe she shouldn't be spending her money all willy nilly.

Along with the fact that he is the complete opposite of her which makes them pretty funny.  I only have one dislike about him. Chris is very stubborn, and because of his stubbornness, he can't see things clearly that might not make sense at the time.
Four Stars
I love reading the stories that Ms. Snowe imagines up since I feel like I'm actually there with the characters and experiencing these things with them. Gilly and Christopher are a cute couple, and I hope that they get to stay happily ever after, much like grumpy Brock and peppy Grace are. Another person that I'm hoping gets a happily ever after is Gilly's brother Fritz. I'm giving Teaching With the Enemy by Jaqueline Snowe four stars, and I'm recommending it to all my adults readers.

I loved this book, definitely recommend.

Gilly is an heiress, but her passion is teaching, he doesn’t want to be treated differently because of it, so she hides it. Christopher is a bit jaded after an award goes missing after a one night stand with Gilly. They're teaching styles differ, but they both want what's best for their students. They have to make it work.

Brilliant enemies-to-lovers book.

I spent 90% of this book pissed at Christopher for being an jerk to Gilly for no reason. The other 10% wishing he was real. This book has blackmail, family, secrets, all of it. It's sexy and heartwarming. Overall a great read.

Only thing, I could not figure out how to pronounce Gilly. I kept switching between saying it with a hard "g" and "jilly", probably my fault, I'm sure i just missed her full name that would have told me how to pronounce it.

Gil is a 1st grade teacher who is pairing up with a new teacher this year. Christopher is that new teacher. They met before as a one night stand. He obviously can’t stand her but she is clueless as to why. Enter the blackmailing ex-friend and it becomes a huge mess. They come to have some common ground and become friends. A huge blow up and they are back to square one. Don’t worry HEA contained.
Great story line. Good characters.

This book deserves a spot on your e-reader! ASAP!

'Teaching with the Enemy' is about Christopher and Gilly; Christopher is the new teacher for the first graders; he and Gilly are paired up as buddy teachers for the year. However, Christopher doesn't like Gilly; he criticises her because all the teaching material is just a way to buy her way into the children's hearts, insinuating that she is a bad teacher. So a challenge arises: do not spend a dime on materials. However, Gilly is facing other money-related challenges in her personal life. Will she manage to overcome these hurdles?

I loved this book, I enjoyed seeing how competitive Gilly was and how resistant she was regardless of all the things going on in her life. I also relished seeing Christopher's wall being chipped, bit by bit, by Gilly's colourful personality! Needless to say, you should get reading this book, so Happy Reading!

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Teaching With The Enemy is the first Jacqueline Snowe book I've read and whilst I wasn't blown away, I did enjoy parts of it enough to give her other books a read.

The story is about heiress Gilly and how the funds she's got at her disposal play a big part in her day-to-day life, including her job as a first grade teacher. She takes on a challenge to prove that her money doesn't define her and decides to spend a month without any access to her funds and to use just her teacher's salary.

Early on we are introduced to her buddy teacher Christopher, who she knows from before. Christopher came across as a really unpleasant character from the start and since the book is in first person from Gilly's point of view, the reader doesn't know until further along what the reasons are for his open hostility towards her, by which point you already don't like him. Unfortunately, for me, this feeling stayed and I never warmed up to him. Perhaps if we'd been in his head to understand his reasons earlier on, it might have made him more endearing although once they move past the animosity phase, they do share some lovely moments.

I also thought that the after roughy the half way point, the story could have wrapped up a bit sooner. I thought the character of Samantha was really well written because I really disliked her but I just wanted her part done with a lot earlier.

This was a well written book with a great overall premise but there were parts of it which didn't really appeal to me.

It was the title that triggered me to request the arc. Being a sucker for enemies-to-lovers this blurb seemed to be right up my alley. And the story was kind of cute. As a closet millionaire, Gilly hides her fortune from her co-workers at the elementary school where she is a kindergarten teacher. Because she learned the hard way that people treat you differently when they know you have millions on your bank account.

When she discovers that her new colleague is the hot one night stand who stood her up, she is confused by his harsh reaction to her. He finds her sparkly classroom too disturbing for children and he condones her buying stuff for the children in her class. Determined to show Christopher that she didn't 'buy' her Teacher of the year award with gifts for the children, she sets out to make the school year the best ever. Despite the contempt and hate Christopher sends her way and the blackmail Gilly receives.

Slowly Gilly learns the reason for Christopher's cold shoulder and Christopher discovers that Gilly really cares about her students. But when enemies turns to lovers, there are still secrets between them both.

Will those secrets tear them apart? The story is original and cute. Although not very believable. So that is why you can have trouble connecting to the characters. In all, three and a half stars from me and a special thank you to Net galley for providing the arc.

Hot, contemporary romance in an elementary school setting. Gilly loves teaching first grade. She wants everything to be colorful and memorable and doesn't mind paying for extras herself. She has kept secret her inherited family money preferring to be known for her work and skills as a teacher. Christopher is the new first grade teacher and has hang ups about money because of a family situation. He doesn't think frills are necessary to be a good teacher.

Being an elementary school librarian, and the fact I subbed today in first grade, I appreciate the authors reflecting the extra effort good teachers put into their jobs. A lot of the school things are spot on, especially funny comments from young students. The books has twists and turns including a blackmail plot that I didn't love. It adds to the drama between the love interests but the actions didn't feel realistic. Also, a forgery would have been the banks or who ever cashed the checks responsibility to replace the funds not the person stolen from, so that plot point didn't work for me.

But all in all this was a fun, steamy, read. I love the setting and especially enjoyed the date that included a trip to a library. This is second in a series but easily read as a stand alone. Thank you to NetGalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for an ARC ebook in exchange for a honest review.

Teaching with the Enemy by Jaqueline Snowe was a fun, steamy, and suspenseful read. I loved all the characters in this story. This story has an enemies-to-lovers theme, but with a bit a twist. I liked the unexpected turn on events.

Gilly is a first grade teacher on top of her game! She loves to buy new things for her classroom every year, and make her room "Pinterest" ready. Christopher is a new first grade teacher at the school, and is a bit simplistic in the fact that he doesn't think you need to spend tons of money to be a good teacher. These two immediately butt heads, but the craziest part is they have had a one night stand past.

The tension grows super hot between Gilly and Christopher right the start. Then we add the plot twist I didn't see coming, and I loved it! I loved seeing these two characters grow, overcome obstacles, and fall in love. I also loved the way Gilly's relationship with her brother develops. You can tell those two truly care for each other. I hadn't read the first book in the series, but I could still follow what was going on. Overall, I really enjoyed this book! It had relatable characters, steamy love scenes, and a plot that had me hooked to the very end!

Enemies-to-lovers is one of my favourite romance tropes, but unfortunately, Teaching with the Enemy missed the mark. Christopher is awful for the first quarter of the novel. He is a mean bully and it seemed quite extreme considering what he was mad at Gilly for. I hated how often Gilly wanted to cry because of something he said. Gilly is also a terrible doormat. I didn't understand her motivations and had a hard time connecting with her character.

Aside from the characters, I had issues with the editing. There were some continuity problems, like when Christopher asked to speak to Gilly after school, but we never hear what they talked about and it’s never brought up again. Or when Christopher asked Gilly if she wanted a car ride, then dinner is suddenly mentioned, but then Christopher asks Gilly if she wants to grab food. I think some things might’ve gotten missed in the editing process and it made the story clunky. There were also a few grammatical errors.

Overall, this was a pretty quick read, but there was nothing really unique or amazing to make this book stand out.

This is the second book in the Shut Up and Kiss Me series. This book reads great as a standalone but is connected to the first book because Gilly is best friends with Grace from book one. I loved this book and couldn't put it down. It's an enemy to lovers’ story that will hit all your emotions. Gilly and Christopher have past, they had a one nightstand now Christopher is the new teacher in her school and for some reason he hates her. To make it worse she's been buddied up with him for the year but there's a fine line between love and hate. Things start looking up for Gilly but she has secrets that could cause everything in her life to implode. Christopher has his own trust issues that center around money. When Samantha, Gilly's brother Fritz's ex comes back to blackmail Gilly things go from good to bad. When Gilly secrets get out like they inevitably do, will she be able to make amends to those she hurt with her lies and secrets? Will she be able to forgive Christopher? I can't wait for the next book in the series. I really, really want Fritz to find love! Hope he gets a story soon.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Gilly Carter never expected to see her one night stand again. After all, it was just supposed to be one night, not a constant reminder. But Fate, likes to play tricks and Christopher Callahan ends up teaching in her school next door to her, AND she's his teacher buddy. Well played, Fate. What she can't understand is why Christopher is rude and abrasive to her, but friendly to everyone else. As the school year begins and Christopher sees her in action, his opinions of her begin to change and his reasons for treating her like a piece of gum stuck on the bottom of a shoe are revealed. But then something else happens that affects his younger sister and all fingers point towards Gilly.

There's a subplot in this story with Gilly's brother's ex Samantha. It does not take away from the main storyline, but adds to the bit of suspense to the story and lots of angst between Gilly and Christopher.

I devoured this book in a matter of hours. I just couldn't stop! My mind became so invested in Gilly and Christopher and the train wreck that was Samantha. I look forward to reading more in this series.

Teaching is Gilly's passion. She loves her students and she loves going over the top with her classroom and supplies for the class/students. When she is getting her class ready for the new year her ONS, Christopher, walks in and is introduced as the new teacher for the year. Queue awkwardness. To make matters even worse he is over the top angry with her, can't stand the money she is clearly flaunting in her class and challenges her that she can't go two weeks without spending money on her classroom. Challenge accepted.

The premise of this one sounded so good but the execution wasn't there. Christopher's antics and feelings were way over the top especially considering his reasoning when it all came out. Seemed kind of flimsy especially when one question could have cleared it all up. I also didn't understand her whole "relationships are bad and not for me but brother needs one bad" mentality. Overall it was an easy low-angst read but it missed the mark a bit for me.

Minus points because I couldn‘t quite relate to Gilly‘s troubles and dilemmas. Instead of just telling her loved ones that whole Samantha secret she kept delaying it and getting played by that bitch. I was feeling quite anxious because I thought her secrets would blow up in her face.
I wasn‘t quite sure Chris deserved forgiveness at the end. He was such an asshole at the beginning (because of wrong assumptions and misunderstandings), then he ended up being cute but at the end he was an asshole AGAIN for the exact same reasons. One would have thought he knew better by then. Gilly was also quite frustrating.

Anyways I loved the setting in the elementary school, Kayla, Grace and Fritz and the smutty scenes.
I also loved the date idea to pick a book for the other person to read. I will remember that.

To sum it up, it was an okay read leaning into good. It was in no way bad though!

Thank you to City Owl Press for giving me this advanced free copy of Teaching With the Enemy! Obviously as a teacher the name drew me in.

Again another enemies to lovers. Literally all I read. But honestly I did not love how hostile Christopher was towards Gilly with absolutely no proof for his bullshit reason. He was so mean to her and then when he realized he was OBVIOUSLY wrong he didn’t deserve her, but whatever.

Then he’s all in the relationship until he thinks the worst of her AGAIN. Wtf Chris? He had serious trust issues. Gilly should not have given him a chance after that inmo. I know he had he own issues, but come on.

Other than that I loved to hear about classrooms and teaching adventures. I related to small things in the book that I feel only teachers can.

Aside, from the fact that Christopher was frustrating as hell, I enjoyed the book.

I recently read another book of this author's that I absolutely loved (Holdout) so I was excited to check this one out as she is a new author to me. I struggled a bit with what to really say about my thoughts on this book with regard to this review. At times I found the story to be interesting and engaging and I liked the characters, while others I found the story line to be somewhat unbelievable and I heavily disliked the characters or their actions.

I think the story line had promise, but it's execution kind of fell flat for me. Without saying too much and giving too much away, I don't think how the main characters acted at various points throughout the book was realistic or believable to the situation, and if so, that would be what made them far less appealing in my eyes. At times, Christopher seemed way over the top and harsh in his reactions/interactions toward Gilly, and in certain situations Gilly found herself in with regard to her brother etc, I felt like she chose to act in ways that just really made no sense. So, I struggled a bit if I am honest.

I would definitely still like to check out more of this author's writing. I just feel like this book wasn't for me as I could not connect to it well.

I have read and enjoyed Jacqueline Snow's writing previously and was excited to try Gilly and Christopher's story. The blurb drew me in and made me curious how their enemies to lovers story would play out.

I did like both Gilly and Christopher in the latter half of the book, but he frustrated me with a lot of his actions in the beginning. It felt like he was harder on Gilly than the situations called for.

The competition between them and the issues surrounding their one night together and him ghosting her were interesting. The blackmail aspect added to the plot without feeling extraneous. Especially as Gilly hid her wealth from Christopher.

Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.

Gilly is a kind, caring, colorful, fun elementary school teacher and the reigning teacher of the year. She is also an heiress but keeps that information to herself since having money caused her to be treated differently her entire life. Christopher is a new teacher at Gilly’s school and is assigned as her buddy teacher. He is also her one night stand and is friendly with all of their co-workers but treats Gilly with contempt. Even though Christopher treats her badly, they have an intense attraction. This is a fun enemies to friends to lovers story with a lot of jumping to conclusions, hurt feelings, and even some blackmail. I’ve never read a teacher romance before and even though it was a bit different, I really enjoyed Gilly and Christopher’s story.

Having never read a Jaqueline Snowe book, I wasn't sure what to expect. "Teaching with the Enemy" is book 2 in Snowe's "Shut Up and Kiss Me" series, and it was so enjoyable! The enemies to lovers trope is one of my favorites, and this book delivers. Sparks fly between Gilly and Christopher even while they hate each other, and eventually they stop fighting their feelings for each other. The fact that they're both teachers who really love their students was intriguing to me as well, as a former teacher.

I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more of Snowe's work. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

Flirting, cute costumes, and secrets - Jaqueline Snowe knows how to do it all! This book was amazing. I thought it was well paced and I absolutely fell in love with hottie-teacher-bomb Christopher.

At first, Christopher made me mad that he was so mean for unknown reasons but as I got to know him, I loved him and loved how protective he is. Gilly, our protagonist, was a fun loving teacher who made some mistakes and had to learn how to fix them. Would have loved to see what her costumes were like for spirit week!!

Sweet story about Gilly and Chris. When Gilly a first grade teacher walks into school the first day to find the new teacher Chris, across the hall is a previous one night stand. A one night stand that she was hoping to hear from but did not. Chris then proceeds to treat her horribly. Well there is back story on both Chris and Gilly that eventually comes out. What a mess! They are truthfully both such likable characters is a relief when the finally get on the same page, however short lived that is!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book in exchange for my review. All opinions are my own. I loved the concept of this book. I enjoy reading about teachers and schools and this had that! However I found ,self loving parts of the book and finding other parts of the book falling more flat. Because of these ups and downs, I found that I wasn’t enjoying the story as much as I had hoped. I did enjoy the characters and the enemies to lovers connection between Gilly and Christopher.
