Type-o City!!

Even some of the core ideas in this book had major errors!! The 20/40/40 rule, for instance, is referred to as a “20/40/20 rule” incorrectly within the author’s own paragraph! The author may be good at Chess, but he needs help in the area of English and grammar.

Decent

A decent overview of the game of Chess. I would have to say the main drawback is the lack of pictures for learning purposes.

I am terrible at chess.

It's part being too emotionally vulnerable to take the round after round after round of initial beatings and analysis it likely takes to get good.

It's part not liking how structured the game is with set openings and many mid-game rules of thumb.

It's part that I get impatient.

It's part that I can't for the life of me easily manage a checkmate over a draw even when I have vast piece superiority in an end game.

And yet, in small doses playing someone who is as terrible as me, I enjoy playing. I'd like to be a challenge for another casual player.

Maybe.

This book and some focused practice for a couple weeks got me to what I would consider "advanced beginner" before getting bored and moving on.

I think that's my ceiling.
