Kate Paulk is a transplanted Australian with an infant writing career, a hyperactive imagination, and a fondness for weird stuff. She has published enough short stories to be losing count, a novella and Knights in Tarnished Armor, which doesn’t exactly fit any kind of category. Kate’s first novel, Impaler, is an alternate history about Vlad the Impaler (he wins). Kate spends her time juggling the demands of software quality assurance (the day job), her husband, two very demanding cats, and the stories demanding attention. The stories usually win.

This was a fun little romp. What happens when a vampire, a werewolf, a succubus, and an angel, along with a few other friends, try to stop a lunatic from summoning something/someone from hell at a SF/F convention? A lot of hilarity is what happens.

Jim was the only really well fleshed out character, but the other major characters (Sean, Raph and Lil) were well done enough to be believable. The thinly disguised characters were kind of fun to tease out who they were in real life. The pacing was good and the character motivations seemed well done for the world they are set in. I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to other entries in the series.

The eBook was formatted well, with only one noticeable spelling error.
