Either I have been blind to the rejected mate trope or they are just springing up like flies! This is the second series about rejected mates that I've read by this author in the last one week and they were recently released as well.

Sadly this one did not deliver. Dnf @ 66%.

Why so much focus on the rejection? The guy was sprung up on her, it's not like she likes the guy.

Why did the guy want to kill her after rejecting her just because she smells "weak", he could have just walked away, considering he was the one that insisted he wanted her as a mate in the first place, they weren't even fated.

The book was boring. The guys who I assume will be her mates are boring. The plot is boring. Everything was boring. I'm out✌🏽

Holes

I couldn't finish this book. I feel this storyline is a bit chaotic. Mom runs away with baby for reasons not yet known and ends up making a deal with the devil himself. We then meet grown child lilith who is not so welcomed In her pack for I'm not really 100% sure actually. Is it because she is this Half-breed they call her, ( what is a half- breed)? or is it because they no she's different since she looks different? Its anyone's guess really since its not entirely explained at the moment. Her evil mate comes and is ready to claim her and then it gets confusing. How did he come to the conclusion she would be his mate by just looking at her as a baby? When he comes to collect he says that she is a worthy mate one minute then the next he's talking about she has weakness and must be killed? It's like str8 whiplash, and the sad part is we have no idea where this all comes from? Why did he say she's weak? Then it's our H running from a rejected mate, which, this doesn't feel really like rejection? This doesn't even feel like a fated mate book or a fated rejection mate book? It makes no sense in that department? We get a little information that she wants to be a demon hunter, while in her old pack. It's shown she can fight in her attempt to get into the trials but doesn't fight in her old pack? She it literally being choked out by the alpha son, and not once does she try to defend herself, but once she leaves she's kind of a skilled fighter from her academy and other lessons? What?!?! So now she's training and I swear it's like she's a complete idiot. How do you say you always wanted to be a demon Hunter but ur scared, don't know not a single thing about fighting demons and is shivering every other page? It's just not making any sense? Our H isn't strong, seems completely useless, and is just all around sad. Her brother? I have so many questions? How is he her brother since he's older? Is it her dad's son? We learn her horrible dad is her mom's mate, and they look down on her mom for having her before mating, but then how is the brothers existence explained? Now our H has a plan to hide and get strong enough to kill her jerk "mate", yet when her brother is not found she completely brakes down with the tears and the sorry for herself parade," why am I even trying! Why should I even live! " ( boo)!! and that's when I just called it quits! This entire book just is all over the place with nothing coming together? You get these snippets of a strong wolf yet our H just seems so freaking weak! We get this " he's gonna pay" but the book seems to focus on her crush for her brother friend? And I'm guessing the other guys who will play into as love interest? Another question? How the one guy knows right away who she is because of how she smells? What the heck was the bracelet for if they can smell the snow giving her away??? Ughhh! Idk what I expected in this book, but it really just sucked and had gaping holes with a fmc who is going on about Disney characters? Dnf @56%

Great cover art. Interesting concept. Excessive plot holes. The story is in desperate need of editing. The FMC is a dolt. The dialogue was criminally flat. Cliffhanger ending. Reading this book was the equivalent of assembling IKEA furniture without instructions. You have a vague idea of what it should look like but it’s a frustrating endeavor to get to the finish line. Worse, once it’s finished you’re sure it’s not meant to look like that.... In the end, it’s just best to return it (or Google) once you noticed the missing instructions.

1 Did the author just buy cover art & pop her first draft into this book & call it done?! Star

Don’t recommend, will not continue.

Great start to a series!

Lilith is a very interesting FMC. Having abruptly become aware of a deal her mother made with the Stormfire Alpha, she is on the run for her life. Rizer has deemed her an unfit, weak mate and has issued her death. Naturally the best place for her to hid and blend in is his very own pack. Knowing her brothers best friend owes him a life debt she seeks he repay him by securing her safety. Even if that means becoming his partner in the deadly demon hunter trails. If they can manage the top 10 she will be untouchable even by Rizer. But they have to survive. There is clearly something special about her yet Bailey is perfectly drawing out her hidden lineage perhaps? With any exceptional read, Lilith is finding herself with feelings for 3 unique characters cue the sexual drama.

Option 1, Caspian. Is a half demon which just so happens to be a succubus...yeah he is hot. Smart-assed yet dominate and protective for me is such a sexy combination. He is also the mega crush from Lilith's past and her brothers best friend. When she comes to him for help to escape the Rizer he wants nothing more than to send her on her way yet every cell in his body says she is his to protect. At the risk of losing his life, he takes her as his partner in the demon hunter trials. Leaving him very little room to fight off his growing attraction to her. *sigh*

Option 2 Eziel, Rizer's son the Prince of Stormfire...yep things are about to get complicated. As soon as Eziel requests Lilith to prove she is worthy of the trails by fighting Caspian, Eziel finds himself completely enamored with Lilith. The more he watches her he begins to see through the hair dye and the magical bracelet to see she is the woman his father is looking for. There is no love lost between father and son, Eziel has decided she will be his future mate and no one will stop him. *double sigh*

Option 3, Alaric (PS he is someone else to be divulged later) a super sexy, funny, powerful wolf shifter. He knows upon laying eyes on Lilith who she really is and blackmails her into a "friendship". Which quickly becomes clear what he really wants is her in his bed. His eyes never leave her. He is always there to catch her when she falls. He does everything in his power to provide and protect. *triple sigh*

The steam wasn't in this read but the fore play for future steam is there for the readers! There is a ton of sexual tension. Amazing storyline! Tons of surprises!

Can not wait for book 2!!

Happy reading,
DD 💕

I've been wanting to read this for forever because the cover is absolutely, drop-dead gorgeous. The story mostly consists of Lilith hiding from the alpha that forced her mother to promise her to him as his bride when she turned eighteen.

There are three prospective love interests, and I liked them all.

Some good action with her hunting demons, but the details of training and how it works are mostly skated over. I don't think it hurt the plot, but if you're looking for deep world building, you might find it lacking.

The story was easy to read and held my attention. The ending had a nice combination of resolution and cliffhanger.

pretty good..

The book was good it’s a first for both authors for me to read.
I loved the characters the plot and the storyline so you can probably tell that I loved the whole story, but I was hoping for a bit more romance or something sexier.. I wasn’t sure on getting book 2 but with the bloody cliff hanger it left me with I’ll have to wait to get it and read it now. Plus I’m way to curious if the second book gets some sexy times in there lol.

Good

Good overall but needs to be re-edited, as one chapter is out of place by about 4 chapters, names of characters used incorrectly, etc. Great story though and can't wait for the next one.

This book kinda just jumped straight into the action from the start. I was a little bit confused why Lilith's mum was running and from who? When i got away from that and Lilith's story actually started thats when i got sucked into it

Shes an outcast in her pack but Lilith's (FMC) life changes when she turns 18 and a sadistic Alpha comes calling claiming that shes his mate. Not one she likes or wants. Trying to escape him she ends up hiding out right under his nose at the Demon Hunting Trials to become a bounty hunter. Except things get complicated when she intertwined with her brothers friend (who is helping her) - Caspian, Prince Eziel and cheeky chappy (who seems to be everywhere she needs help) - Alaric. Secrets & Lies are all around lilith in this book so trusting anyone is dangerous for her as well as everyone else. Fast - Paced, full of tension and plot twists add to that a few laughs too. Knight the gnome made me chuckle with his bluntness. This book completely drew me in and i read it in one day. It was that good and that ending was killer! I cant wait for the next book now

These two authors are a match made in writing heaven!
I loved this whole book from start to finish. The rejected mate genre is just interesting and can be written in so many ways. Bailey and Snow have created a unique and fun story. Lilith is such a strong and determined character. Her whole journey in this book, the trials and the fear of being discovered were big standouts for me. The plot is fastp packed and I found the mysterious nature of the people close to her had me on the edge of my toes. There were moments of shock, laughter and wonder as I read this book. And that ending has me wishing for more pages. I know I'll be excited for the next book. This book is really amazing on so many levels. Rh paranormal lovers will really enjoy this series!

Let me just say G Bailey is one of my favorite authors so it pains me to give this one a 2 star. The characters lacked development in their relationships with each other. Not only between Lilith and the guys but between the guys themselves. Also parts of the story seemed to be put in weird places and then show up on other places. Other parts I seemed to have missed something in how they got to where they were or what they were doing and I tried to read backwards to see if I missed something. The flow was way off on this one which is not typical for Bailey. Overall I felt like this was just an outline of what the real book was to be.

This was very different from what I was expecting. There are a couple things here and there that I'm unsure about but I'm sure things will be smoothed out in due time. My main concern is the main heroine is very meek compared to G. Bailey's usual strong willed women that she writes. Not that this is a bad thing because I like being able to read about a woman finding herself and her inner strength but it just took me by surprise that she's supposed to be "strong and different" (something that people will fuss about) but within a couple of chapters you see that she isn't much. I'm hoping that this will be a great journey for this character so I'm not super upset about it. If fact it makes me want to read more so I can see how this story develops. I'm really enjoying this new world and I can't wait to read more!

Overall: 4.5/5

Rejected (not really) mates

This book is touted as a rejected mates story, but I find it borderline so.Old shifter basically says "I licked this one, so it is mine" about the heroine when she was a baby, but then changes his mind. There are no fated mates, its all about choice and promises made out of desperation. I liked this story, but felt that clarification needed to be made.

For the most part, I liked the characters. At times, the heroine was set on her I do what I want attitude, and makes some really dumb choices. As she is only 18, you can feel how young she is at times. If you can overlook th her immaturity at times, this is the beginning of a fun series.

I received this free eARC novel from the author. This is my honest review.

I swear, every new book by G. Bailey just gets more and more amazing! I don't know how she does it, but I'm always left stunned and awed by the story I just read.

I love Lilith and I love how she's not an amazing fighter. I love seeing her work her tail off to get better so she can be a better demon hunter as well. She's a fighter and she has a mission.

The guys (Caspian, Eziel, and Alaric) are yummy and fantastic. All have some deep secrets and all are entranced by Lilith. I CANNOT wait to see how things progressed between all of them in future books!

I adored this book and now need book 2 immediately :)

The concept of the story is very interesting and pretty unique, but unfortunately the execution isn’t that great. The story jumps forward frequently and there were at least three times where it took me a while to figure out what was going on or how much time had elapsed. A lot of stuff isn’t explained (like the format of the trials is super informal and not detailed), and I was thrown by the whole brother side story that seemed abandoned in a way. It just felt very rushed overall and there seem to be quite a few plot holes.

I would not categorize this as rejected mates trope at all. It didn’t contain any of the requisite elements of rejected mates, in fact I would argue that he didn’t even reject her. It’s a verrrrry flimsy attempt to put it in the rejected mates category and I’m not buying it.

There are also a couple times where character names or objects change, I assumed something that happened in the editing process (the bell is a lamp for a paragraph then goes back to being a bell, Eziel is referred to by another name at one point). I felt like the relationship development was also non-existent. I just wish overall there was more detail, this felt like it was still in the draft stages.

This book had a lot of spunk and tropes and I liked it. It wasn’t my favorite but I really loved the guys …. This better end up as a why choose because I refuse to let any of them go. I also loved knight and the little dragon. Who doesn’t love a good animal sidekick???

When Caspian calls Lilith “songbird” I swoon hard. Every. Time. I’m wanna see where this series goes. The was slow burn central and if this ends up a line triangle (or square in this case) I’ll be so disappointed lol.

Sue me for reading this even when I know I won't like it. Why do all guys in books have to be dicks? That is not hot, contrary to popular opinion. A book can still be dark without everyone being assholes to the MC.

This was the first book in a new series and it was fantastic. There seems to be a trend lately with rejected mates and I am sort of digging them. I have read a couple so far and they are good.

This book was very different from what I expected but I am totally in love with all the characters. This book is very fast moving and jumps right into the action from the beginning. I love how Lilith will do anything to fight for her life including jumping into the demon trials even though she doesn't know how to fight.

I cannot believe that ending... ugh! I want to know what happens like now! I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

Okay you had me when Lilith first spouted off the curse words. I knew immediately that I was going to love this chick. So Lilith Thornblood has been raised in a pack that bullies her because she is different. So you get a little bit of her background and you just have to wait for the other shoe to drop. The Alpha of hell rejects her as a mate well everything goes to up in flames. So now the action begins and we are on the go. Now what is she going to do? She is going to join the demon hunter trials. Well she finds Caspian and ask for his help. Well this is interesting given that she had a crush on him when she was younger. So she also meets Eziel, and Alaric. However while she is training the alpha of hell is locking down all the portals. Hunting demons is hard work but who can you trust? So will the alpha of hell find Lilith? All I know was that ending had me say what did I just read! Um what just happened. Omg I am going to die if I don't find out soon. Please Please for the love of all things holy do not make me wait long.

Once again, I shall reiterate that G. Bailey book's have the most stunning covers. Good job to whoever picks and creates the cover!

Anyway, back to the book. I've read some of her earlier works by the author and I feel like her writing has gotten better with time where I can see visible improvements in pacing, story building and character development. Although there are holes in the transitions and some plots that needed to be expanded and built like how individuals found out about her identity; it's definitely a work in progress and glad that the author is improving.

I really enjoyed the concept of the book and the characters individually. However, each of the guys are still a mystery especially with Eziel. With a RH, it's always hard to let each of the guys shine but I hope in the second book that we see more of him.

Great start to series, but needs editing

I’ve been in the worst book drought for months. I swear, I almost gave up reading. Nothing I’ve read lately has been worth it, so I’m happy I came across this new series. I don’t normally read G. Bailey as the books they write are usually aimed at YA readers (sorry, but YA bores me to tears—I need some steam in my romance), but this one is more NA. There’s no sex in this first book, but it does have plenty of chemistry, tension, and steamy moments between the h and the 3 Hs. Book 2 better have puh-lenty more steam and sexiness or I’ll be devastated.

Book 1 could use some editing though. Is it Rizor or Rizer? Is it Eziel or Conlaeth? Also, what is up with the character building (or a lack thereof) in regards to our h, Lilith? Apparently, she wants to be a demon hunter, just like her older, adopted brother, and yet she knows literally nothing about demons or the Demon Hunting Trials, as well as knowing practically nothing about hell itself. She couldn’t be in a worse position, and yet she just skates right in with zero issue. It’s a tad far-fetched, and we’re discussing a paranormal-fantasy-hell-demon-werewolf-fae-magic world RH here. That’s saying something.

Additionally, (*very mild spoilers*) she does absolutely nothing to look into the truth about herself or the welfare of her family. She doesn’t even know if they’re alive, and yet she’s off skipping hand-in-hand with her boyfriends, like la-di-freaking-da. I get that she’s running/hiding, but she doesn’t even spend time thinking about ways she could gather intel/updates. Again, hard to buy. Finally, why does she literally never stop to wonder or try to understand why she’s different? I mean, her mom leaves her a very bizarre, mysterious note eluding to some great mystery, and she just reads it and promptly forgets about it; a wendigo touches her and she has zero issues; she jumps off a building and has minor injuries that are quickly healed; after mentioning several times how magic is basically gone, she sees other characters performing magic (more than once) and she then performs magic herself—and you’re telling me that she never investigates an iota of this?! Gtf out of here. Not buying it.

However, with all that being said, this book was definitely enjoyable and worth the read. You have a redheaded outcast living in the Alaskan wilderness pack of historians where, one day, she receives an unexpected visit from the alpha of hell. The world is a tad confusing, but just know that there are 4 main packs of werewolves in this world, all with different tasks and abilities. The Caeli pack are centered in Alaska and they are the historians of the werewolf world. The Stormfire pack is ruled by the alpha of hell, and apparently hell exists on a slightly different dimension, only accessible by magical portals. There are many levels to hell, with the deepest being run by ‘evil’ demons. It’s these lower levels of hell that the Stormfire pack guards the gates to, ensuring no powerful, evil demons escape from hell into the world. There are many harmless and ‘good’ demons as well. It’s when the more powerful and evil demons escape hell that the werewolf Demon Hunters are sent out to track them down and kill them. The idea is to keep humans safe and in the dark about the true existence of the magical world.

After the alpha of hell shows up in Alaska and tries to kill Lilith, she goes on the run, deciding to hide right under the alpha’s nose by hiding in his own pack. Luckily, Stormfire is made up of millions of werewolves. Lilith heads to the Demon Hunting Academy and enlists in the trials, hoping to reach a spot in the top ten, in a school of hundreds of hopefuls. Her brother’s best friend, Caspian, decides to take her on as his partner in the trials and looks out for her. The alpha of hell’s son, Prince Eziel, quickly takes note of her at the DHT, as well as a mysterious, Viking-looking wolf who tends to hang out by himself and sits pretty, consistently in first place on the DHT leader board.

This book is full of short, quick adventures that keep the plot moving consistently. The chemistry is palpable between Lilith and her soon-to-be three hotties, and she even picks up a few magical creatures/friends along the way.

I’m super excited to read book 2. I’m fairly invested in the characters, though Dove and Lilith’s entire family still feel flat to me.

Please heed the warnings from the 1-2 star reviews when they say the plot holes in this story are more bountiful than Thanksgiving dinner with extended family.

You can tell, without a doubt, that this is written by two different authors and that they did not communicate well at all. One example, and one that bothered me the most, is the FMC grew up in a pack that is known for being record keepers and essentially librarians. She mentions wanting to be a bounty hunter to her bff who says "with what training?" yet the FMC goes to these bounty hunting trials and suddenly knows how to fight because of all the training she did at her academy? Like what?

Along with this, the academy supposedly trains them to be record keepers and all things smart.....and she is ridiculously stupid. Doesn't know what a wendigo is, doesn't know...fucking anything. Literally, she is dumb. On top of all this, she is in no way, shape, or form a badass. She disregards any advice given to her (I said she was stupid right?) and that includes her second ever hunt where her partner says "don't engage without me" and she even thinks "I'm going to because I want to prove I'm not useless". Bitch, it is your second hunt EVER. You. Are. USELESS. Literally one of the dumbest written FMCs I've read in a hot minute. She has not made a good decision ONCE!

Another plot hole, her mom gave her a bracelet to hide her from the Big Bad....yet 3 people have been able to get her scent? But don't worry...out of all the people there's only those 3. WTF was the point of this bracelet if the bad guy put out that he wants people to find "The girl who smells like snow and fire" and 3 of the people can smell her....doesn't that mean ANYONE can? How just them? Makes zero sense.

Now for a few more things I didn't like and need addressed:

1) This is not really a rejected mates book. The Big Bad claimed her as his mate when she was a baby bc reasons (???) and when he comes to collect her when she's 18....he finds her weak and tries to kill her instead. They aren't fated, they've never met, there is no connection...no author says anything that indicates there is a bond to be broken here. So yeah he rejects her but....like why should she care?
2) There is no believable emotions in this book. The FMCs family is killed and she spends 5 minutes crying then doesn't think about them again until she's asked why she wants to be in the trials...and then she's suddenly angry and wants revenge. Then again....we don't think about it at all until we hear her brother is missing and we get a paragraph "woe is me I should give up" and that's it. Pathetic.
3) The world building is super lackluster. I think I'm slowly putting together what the world is like but it seriously is not explained very well. I could have used a bit more history or explanation to really pull me into the story.
4) Steam level? lol~ forget about it. There isn't even any smut to help make this mess tolerable. It hasn't been said (I haven't completed the book yet) but as of where I'm at right now, around 60% or so, but FMC gives off total virgin vibes zzzzz~

For whatever reason I'm probably going to keep reading because I don't know what I'm doing with my life. But man is this just not a good book lol~
