Fighter's Den #1

Path To Redemption

Rate this book
Rising boxer Jaxon Cage is known to be a fighter on and off the ring. He's a man on a mission; redeeming the death of his little brother, who was on his way to becoming a boxing star. Jaxon holds himself accountable for his brother's death and now takes his place in the ring to continue his dream. Turns out, he's a natural. With a 5-year-old daughter he's raising, he needs the money now more than ever and is steadily making his way to the top with the help of his Coach. There's just one problem - he's taken a keen interest in his Coach's daughter and can't afford the distraction or any further burdens. But resisting her and focusing on his torturous reality is easier said than done.

Quiet and shy Emily Resnick leads a simple life as an elementary teacher. Or she did until her father took the talented and outrageously handsome Jaxon Cage under his wing. Now, she finds herself consumed by the dark and brooding but secretly soft-hearted man. She was a goner for him the second she saw the devotion he gave to his daughter and newfound job. As she discovers the many layers to this difficult man, she can't help but want to ease his burdens and carry his demons. She can't help but want him, period. Jaxon is intent on pushing her away, though, and Emily must decide if she should run from the inevitable destruction of her heart while she can, or fight for the fighter.

3.5!! This book is on wattpad by @/TheFeveredBookaholic
I am in between like and love for this book. It was really good but there were so many parts where the spicy stuff seemed unnecessary and it became annoying cuz it snatches away the moments of the plot. Also, the five year old daughter of the male mc, doesn't get much of his attention. You'll understand and maybe even agree when you read it! It gets better towards the second half. I will recommend reading this book! Made me feel angry, sad, happy and all of that.

I definitely didn’t skip through the last 40% of this book because I didn’t care for any of the characters anymore.
Definitely not.

This would’ve been such a good book, if Laxon hadn’t been a piece of shit.

From the beginning until the end, the only thing about Emily he seemed to like was her body. I think he mentioned her personality a total of three times.

The first time he saw her, his only thought was ‘i want to fuck her’

And throughout the book, every time they interacted, he described how good her ass looked or how fuckable she was and how he would take her right then and there.

‘Damn it all to hell, why did she always have to look
so breathtaking? My body betrays my mind and I
find myself shamelessly scrolling my eyes over her
figure, which is showcased in simple jeans and a
form-titting sweater. Her hair is tied into two
pigtails and I literally have to grip the door to hold
myself back from the mental image of tugging onto
them while I slam into her from behind. My cock
comes to life from the fantasy and the way her
startled eyes flick down to it, tongue wetting her
bottom lip when she notices the bulge not-so-
hidden from the thin towel, doesn't help matters.
Those gorgeously blue eyes slowly trail up my abs
and chest, lingering on the droplets of water sliding
down my body and disappearing beneath the towel.
Christ, it takes all my fucking strength to not stalk
towards her and claim her with my mouth and dick
the way I want to. An unfamiliar warmth spreads in
my chest when I see her usual blush take place as
her eyes finally meet mine and I'm overcome with
my longing for her. I shouldn't have but goddamn,
I missed her. These past two weeks have felt like a
lifetime and my obvious dependence on her freaks
me the hell out. So, like the asshole I am, I
naturally resign to unnecessary harshness when I
address her in order to get away from whatever it is
I'm feeling.’

This is one of the paragraphs that shows that.

I’m not saying it’s wrong for him to be sexually attracted to her or anything like that, but it seemed like he was just using her for her body and for sex, and he looked at her like she was an object for him to get off to, which didn’t sit right with me at all.

One thing I didn’t Dislike was the boxing aspect, but that lost its appeal too when I started hating Laxon.

I am going read Cameron’s book since he’s my favorite, but if that one is the same, then I’m saying goodbye to this whole series.

Was great at the beginning. But I stopped reading at 75% bc there was a scene which I found highly triggering and should have come with a trigger warning for sexual assault. I'm talking about the scene at the end of Chapter 26 where the mmc was angry and so he took it out on the fmc during sex?! And she didn't want it but also didn't feel like she could say no so she just took it and cried herself to sleep. And then he kinda realizes what he did and goes to apologize but says sth incredibly toxic along the lines of: I'm relieved that you are hurt bc of my actions bc that means that you care?! What. The. Actual. Fuck. I will never excuse such behavior.

This was definitely something.
My .5 star is bc of Cameron, Lucas and the rest of the fighters den (except the fucking asshole of Jaxon). I loved those men so much but i strongly dislike this book, so let's not talk about as i don't wanna waste my time. Bye.

it felt like there was nothing to tell anymore, it was so long but everything still felt rushed and the plot was a big no for me. jaxon was so annoying, there was so much unnecessary smut
and PLEASE can we talk about the relationship between lizzie and emily ?? wtf? am i the only who thought it made no sense at all???

overall it wasn’t that bad but if it wasn’t for the second book about cameron i would never have finished it…

I love sports romance and I knew I was going to love this one just by reading the blurb. Single dad, boxer with boss's daughter? So good. Emily was perfect for Jaxon. And the back stories were heartbreaking. Lizzie was adorable and had everyone wrapped around her finger. Them being a family was everything. I also did not expect that plot twist. The plot was really well written. And the ending was amazing.

I did not like it at all? I felt like the female main character was too objectified? He was continuously using her! I loved the daughter tho but the plot was not it! I have read boxer books like devils due and absolution but this was just bad
Happy Reading>>

I said it once and I'll say it again single dad tropes have me in a choke hold. Jax's character development>>>>> omg and his relationship with Cameron 💥💳 (just finished Cameron's book also and just wow) This is honestly ku worthy. I started this book a longgg time ago but recently saw a tik tok about the 4th book in the series so I had to go and start from the beginning. Emily's natural motherly vibes are so comforting omfg. I haven't been on wattpad in a while so getting to see the comments made it 10x better. Author left no crumbs 😩

I thought I would have loved this book but I just found it average.

There were a few scenes that were really good, like the banter the emotions and other things, but I can't help but think it was quite cliche for me.

The plot was good and quite normal. But I loved the trope if single father.

Some scenes were really well written but it could've been better.

THIS BOOK WAS EVERYTHING,LOVED THE SHIT OUT OF IT. I have been in a reading slump for the majority of the month and like this book took me out of it. It had me giggling, walking away, and lots and lots of hot moments. Read this on Wattpad and felt like i was reading an actual published book. The writing style was amazing.

it started out pretty well until I lost interest in the last 30%. I'm ngl this was pretty insta-lovey and he was sexually attracted to her from the start. he literally imagined her blowing him when they first met (when she made her lips into an o-shape), which was fucking weird but whatever. what bothered me was that pretty much every time Jax thought about Emily, he always had something sexual to say. I know sexual love exists, but while Emily was admiring how strong Jax was--physically and emotionally--and how well he always treated his daughter, the majority of Jax's thoughts were composed of some variation of how much he liked being inside her. he had a handful of red flags and was especially annoying when he was rude for no reason to the guys at fighter's den. he wasn't all that bad, and he did have an emotional bond with Emily, having lost his brother, and they both supported each other.
the internal dialogues were also tremendously long, not to mention redundant? the decisions they made were questionable, to say the least, like when Emily waited so long to tell Jax about the stalker, and many parts made me cringe. cam and the other guys were adorable--I love their friendship and the way they treat Jax's daughter. Emily had such great character development, and there were many instances where I thought Jax didn't deserve her. she treated his daughter with so much love and she was so nice to everyone, i ended up preferring her to Jax as a character. I know this was the first book in the series, so there's room for improvement, and I look forward to reading the next books (especially cam's one since he supposedly lives a "double life," having 2 different sides to him--one being the witty extrovert and the other being a ruthless fighter).

2.75⭐️ yeah…uhm, im gonna let this slide a little bit as this story was written in 2016😀. this was the author’s first book on wattpad and i’m so so happy that she’s grown and improved her writing (by a shit ton)

as for the book? AHA. this honestly was not worth my time and i swear i was 🤏 this close to DNF-ing it. there was just no romantic chemistry whatsoever, just smut. now i love smut, but not when it’s the only thing the characters seem to do when they’re together and this book was an example of that. not to mention, the amount of times i had to take laps around my room to contain my secondhand embarrassment and cringe is alarming. not to mention, the fmc? i have cussed her out so many freaking times for her outright STUPIDITY. actually, it’s not just the fmc, it’s BOTH the fmc and mmc. like 😭 honestly, the side characters were better than the main one and that’s really saying something.

i enjoy a good WELL-WRITTEN love at first sight, but i swear this one was just pure lust. no romantic chemistry, no build-up, just SMUT. and only a couple chapters in, the characters already started saying they were in love and i definitely did not see how.

i love this author so much (Knox and Sweet Spot are amazing) and i’m so proud of how far she’s come, but this book was just not for me. i’m letting it slide a bit since it was written in 2016, and FYI: i didn’t realize that until like halfway into the story.

3.5

Don't get me wrong, the beginning was incredible, but a little after being halfway through, it got a little boring and the story felt slow, with too much description and, in my opinion, the action started lagging towards the end, thus making the story lose a little bit of its initial charm.
Overall, it was a great story. I feel like if I had read it at another point in my life, I would have given it the full five stars. But I was getting into it after reading and incredible book, that left me hung up on and in a bit of a reading slump, thus making "Path to redemption" a 3.5 stars read for me.
