A young adult novel set in the late 1960s about Pat, a teenage girl flying to meet her estranged father in the Arctic. When the plane crashes in the Canadian Northwest Territories she and her newly adopted Labrador retriever Flan are the only survivors. Together they endure the winter, build a canoe and set off along the Nahanni river to try to return to civilization. A story of perseverance, ingenuity, and pluck.
A great read! This is an adventure set in Canada’s far north A young woman and her faithful Labrador endure a harrowing plane crash and are forced to survive in the hostile wilderness. Well researched and true to the period it was set in, I would highly recommend this novel for all young women with adventurous hearts. In the tradition of Farley Mowat, a great Canadian odyssey and testament to the harsh beauty of Canada’s north.
