I'm not sure why I thought this book would read differently. It was more of a one on one lecture within a story. A shaman of sorts passes on Gandhi's six rules of spiritual healing. Different than The Four Agreements.
I've never read anything by this author before. Characters are well developed, and you can't help but like Maya. She gives Royce, and the reader, so much to ponder with her six principles: supreme gentleness, precision, unshakeable generosity, unending appreciation, inspirational words, and unrelenting persistence. Royce experiences a journey of enlightenment, and the story may leave the reader reflecting on their own life, as well.
At times, the pace was a bit uneven, but it did balance out overall. There wasn't as much on loss and letting go as I expected (based on the title/cover), so some readers may find that a bit misleading.

Book Review: The Mystic's Gift by author, Skip Johnson
The Mystic's Gift was such a welcome surprise! A heartwarming yet powerful read that allowed me an experience unlike any other through the eyes of Royce and Maya and their connection .
Mr. Johnson has created a peaceful journey of enlightenment with transformative messages scattered throughout this wonderful book. While wrapped in a fictional setting, this little gem seamlessly leads the reader to discovery and reflection within a most relatable storyline, and with wisdom and insight he ties the reader to his characters in a most unique way that I found to be very intriguing.
The Mystic's Gift is a thought-provoking wonder that will reignite something inside as it reunites you with your personal journey, both emotionally and spiritually, and will entertain and entice with its mystical spin and it's beauty, along with elements of hope, courage, strength and inspiration.
I thank the author for my signed copy of this most engaging narrative ~ one I highly recommend to those looking to reconnect on their path of self-discovery.
I sat down to read a few pages of this book but I could not put it down. The read was inspirational, uplifting, and demonstrated the power that relationships can have on our lives. Thank you SKIP for the jewel of a read. I will continue to tell others about it. BRAVO 🎉
This book is quite a little gem. I throughly enjoyed reading it and received wonderful inspirational insight, messages and teaching. Definitely a book that won’t disappoint.
I read the whole thing. I found it to be enthralling till the end. I liked it a lot and even shed a small tear right at the last few pages. The story of the two meeting at such a random time with such intervention indeed had a good point to it. I recommend it to someone who likes short stories that are cool to read. This book took me a couple hours and I don't read many novels but it sure fit the bill.
Often when I work with and support trauma survivors I jokingly mention my magic wand is in the shop. This lovely story that explores the six principles of sacred power is the magic needed to support healing in becoming a new wo/man. I high recommend reading this to learn yourself to truly practice being the best version of yourself and then if called upon helping others to do the same. Thanks Skip for sharing this beautiful story.
The Mystic’s Gift is a real gift to readers by Skip Johnson. It’s a wonderful and a must read which is much needed in times like today. The book is a self help that teaches valuable lessons in life. I was really able to relate to the journey of Royce the main character of the book. The journey of self discovery after loss and grief and yet moving ahead in life. I read the book cover to cover in one sitting and am happy to have have won it on the Wild Sage Book Blog FB page. Thank you Skip Johnson for your giveaway which will stay with me for years to come. I am looking forward to reading more books by you.
I'm glad I downloaded this book. I've always wondered about the teachings of Mahatma Ghandi and I realized that it coincides with the teaching of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. I believe that finding this book is the nudge I needed to change my perspective on life and finding out what I fear most. Reading about the Six Principles of Sacred Power gives me the tools and the opportunity to begin in believing in myself, in maintaining the faith that I am supposed to be where I am and to continue learning about letting go of the baggage of the past. The journey is just beginning. I pray for strength and wisdom, ask for guidance and light.
This might have been the most inspirational book. I have ever read. It is a truly empowering read that encourages reflection on six simple principles that possess the capacity to not just transform anyone's life but to guide that person to transforming the lives of others and the world around them.
This book was not structured like a typical self-help book, which I appreciated. It was structured around two main characters: Royce, a self-help author and former professional tennis player who has recently lost his wife, and Maya, a half-Indian and half-British women whose father was Gandhi's righthand man and who becomes Royce's mentor and spiritual guru as it were.
The core premise of this book is that Gandhi wrote a piece outlining six essential principles that have the power to grant anyone immense spiritual wisdom, but because he believed that those six principles had the potential to be used for good or for ill, he chose to limit the number of copies of this volume he made. He kept one volume for himself and entrusted the rest to his most trusted friends and supporters. One of these trusted friends and supporters was Maya's own father, who passed the book onto her upon his death. Now Maya is passing those same principles in the book onto Royce, and, through Royce, onto the readers of The Mystic's Gift.
The Mystic's Gift functions as a profound reminder of virtues like gentleness, generosity, gratitude, precision, choosing our words with care, and persistence. Even more wonderful is that these meditations transpire in Maya's beautiful gardens, which we are encouraged in the beginning of the book to regard as a metaphor for life.
This is the kind of book I would re-read for inspiration and would recommend to others who are looking for a truly transformative inspirational read!
(In the interest of full disclosure, I received a free promotional copy from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.)
If you’re curious about Hinduism, this book will give you a glimpse of that religion… The truth is that Gods Spirit is everywhere on the planet and as a result, there are some spiritual truths in every religion… but it’s not The Truth, which is only found in a relationship with Jesus Christ. He is The Way. This book is about living a happy and fulfilled life by following key principles like “generosity”, “persistence”, “appreciation” and “Gentleness”. Such life qualities are goals to strive toward, but can only be achieved by the support of the Holy Spirit which comes as a result of accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. (Since these goals cannot be achieved on your own, just trust Jesus and skip this book. He will guide you in the way that you should go.)
This book takes you on a personal journey learning the six principles of sacred power. It’s also the story about Royce Holloway learning how to go on after a personal tragedy. This book reminded me of THE SHACK by William Paul Young and THE SECRET by Rhonda Byrne. THE MYSTIC’S GIFT gives the reader a powerful message just like these two books that I’ve mentioned in that it’s a self-help book that only the reader can derive pure enlightment, power, self-discovery and inspiration. I highly recommend this book, and I look forward to reading more of this author’s work. I also thank Skip Johnson for a signed copy.
When I grabbed this book to read, I had just finished a book about more traditional mysticism and was looking for something along that same vein. It didn't take me long to figure out that this book was a vastly different read, but I also found myself unable to put it down as many of the thoughts and ideas expressed in this fictional story touched something deep inside, bringing a level of realism that is rarely found in modern fiction. Mr Johnson captured something special in this short novella that makes it a must read for anyone looking for a deeper meaning to life.
This book will bring you peace. It is so enlightening and helps during all we have gone thru in this past year. I enjoyed it from start to finish. Skip Johnson is such a great author you will enjoy all his work. I will read this again soon and hope you will let it touch your life.
I really enjoyed this book. It had a wonderful, inspirational message. I found myself reflecting on how it applied to my own life and how I could make positive changes to make me a better person as well as how I could positively impact others.
I very much enjoyed this story and believe I will try to embrace these principles into my own life. The story was well told. The characters were interesting. I’d love to read subsequent stories about each character.
I enjoyed this book because it was very simple into the point. The six principles, explained like they were was great to hear. The author and the narrator both did a great job!
I have a habit of starting a book & before I finish it I start another & another never finishing any of them. This book was so good I finished it in a few days. I loved it & look forward to reading more of Skips work. Thank you for a great read.
This story puts life into perspective. Positive and uplifting. I loved the way life circled around to give inspiration for the reader to live the principles. Well done!
