The QUEEN OF CORVIDS is back. And she’s not angry, she’s furious.
When Raven’s sister gets embroiled in one of Bane’s sinister plots, Raven sees red. No one messes with a Crawford. She’ll stop at nothing to save Juni, even if it means challenging Bane, the Lord of War.
Bane knows no bounds and stops at nothing. He wants unlimited travel across Raven’s magical barrier to renew his war on the Mortal Realm. But most of all, the Lord of War wants revenge on Raven and her lover, Cole.
Raven and her team must rescue Juni and discover the intricacies of Bane’s plan before everything Raven worked so hard to build as the new Queen of Corvids crumbles and innocent lives are ruined.
J. C. McKenzie is a book loving, gumboot-wearing, unapologetic science geek. She predominantly writes urban fantasy and fantasy romance. When she’s not spinning tales, she’s in the classroom sharing her passion for science and mathematics while secretly warping the young impressionable minds of our future to carry out her evil plans for world domination. She lives in the Pacific Northwest.
Ohhh this is so, so good! So many mysteries left to unveil, so many questions unanswered but such a griping tales and high tension that you can't stop reading and just want to jump in next book.....we are not frustrated by the end making us want more because it does not feel like an cliffhanger as do have the main investigation solved so we can enjoy a little break but it definitively open to more possibilities so we want to know what will happen next.
I really loved it ; i did guess some elements but it did not make the story less interesting.I loved how Raven is learning and trusting Rourke and Cole , how she includes all her loved ones in her family even if not linked by blood and how she protectes those that need it. Really the wild magic is interesting and i will be curious to see that new development . Juni and lincoln new romance is sweet and Bane is still a jerk being god of war and such but he does have weaknesses as well....
Really an excellent story fabulous when red in order ( could eventually be an stand alone but you would be mising a bit of the background not essential but making this story superb) so i recommend to be read in order if you love fae, shifters, humour, romance and lot , lot of actions and intrigues
Five fabulous stars because this is definitely my favourite book in this series. We've kind of jumped a little way into the future but Raven is still as sassy as always but better yet she's really been taking notes and definitely has a handle on what it takes to be a Queen. Her relationship with Cole in this book was by far more believable than previously and their mutual respect and passion just leapt off the page. Now if only she could wrangle her family but then again that's the beauty of this series because Ravens family dynamics just keep piling on the angst and also admittedly a lot of fun ! Hey you don't need me to rehash the story so I won't but I will say the signs are all there for readers to follow as Raven does what she does best and that's step up and defend those who cannot defend themselves. Definitely my favourite so far and an ending to get you wanting more. This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
I definitely enjoy Raven's books so much more than her siblings' and this was no exception. I just love her relationships with Cole and Rourke. She is always so much fun. And to have a lover like Cole? Oh yes. Give me more.
It's been six years since Raven has claimed her throne and she has been working hard at all that entails. With Cole as her teacher, she definitely has the best by her side. Things have been suspiciously quiet until the last person she wants to see shows up at her court. When Bane comes to make demands on her after he has claimed her sister as his guardian, Raven is understandably confused and angry. And she'll do whatever needs to be done to free Juni. But first, she needs to get the story on what happened. Something anyone who read Juni's books would know, but if not, you are given enough to figure it out here.
I was a little frustrated because it eventually seemed that the whole thing with breaking Juni's bond to Bane (which I thought was the whole point of this book) was thrown into the background while Raven helped Mike with a missing child case, as well as helping the trolls find their missing prince. So I was pleasantly surprised when all three issues were linked and following one lead to the conclusion of the other two.
In the end, Raven gets what she wants...but so does Bane. Which is screaming all sorts of suspicions to both Raven and Cole. Clearly he has some end game that they have played right into, but they can't figure out what it is. We also learn that Inari is up to no good at all and the only reason she doesn't kill Raven is something Raven herself hadn't figured out yet (which, by they way, was super obvious to us readers). Which is also the same reason Cole's psycho step mom DOES try to kill her. Such lovely family dynamics.
Of course, I am excitedly waiting for the next book. More Cole is always a good thing.
There’s no such thing as a quiet life for the Queen of Corvids.
This is the seventh book in the Crawford Investigations series. The book is Urban Fantasy with some level of romance. There are mentions of sexual activity but no descriptive scenes. This book once again focuses on Raven Crawford and is set six years after the first book and follows on directly from the books about Raven’s sister, Juni.
There’s no such thing as a quiet life for the Queen of Corvids. It seems that everyone needs Raven’s attention: the young Troll Prince is missing and the Trolls are requesting her help to find him; her brother, Mike, is investigating another case of a missing boy and needs her help to find him; yet another Roller group is causing problems, attempting to link their souls to the Realm of Light; to top it all off, Juni has been coerced into binding herself to the Lord of War and Raven is forced to look for a way to break the binding.
As ever, JC McKenzie’s style of writing is fluid and easy to read. The story is well paced and although there is a lot going on, we don’t lose track of it. The world building is very good. We get more of a glimpse into the Realm of Light in this book. The characters are well developed and interact with each other in a believable and relatable way. The story is increasingly complex; the big shiny hook at the end has definitely reeled me in and I want to know more.
I’m enjoying this series. If you like to read predominantly Urban Fantasy with a touch of Paranormal Romance and worldbuilding which takes you beyond the mortal realm, then this is the series for you.
Raven and the rest of her friends, allies, and family are back as for another amazing chapter in this awesome series. It has action, danger, twists, mystery, an evil adversary, and multiple worlds in danger. All my favorite characters are back and part of the fun as Raven, Cole and Rourke must figure out all of Bane's evil plan and save Juni. The story was entertaining, made me laugh and kept me glued to the end to see how it all fit together and who would win in the end. Just a great story in the series.
Great character development, action, mystery and surprise. Nice twisty you won't see coming, and the whole cast of characters in this fantastic series. Raven gets some astonishing magical help that I can't wait to see more of. Highly recommend this series.
This latest book in this series was a great read. Raven is the Queen of Corvids and has the power to turn into a conspiracy of ravens, which comes in very handy at times. As the Queen, she has her share of enemies, but the one who irks her the most has now done something to her family that is completely unforgiveable and Bane will most definitely pay!
Raven also has two other investigations in hand, one to find a kidnapped troll prince and another to find a kidnapped reg or human boy. These similar kidnapping do not seem to be related, but are they? With the help of her husband Cole, her guardian Rourke and her brother Mike, they all set out on various adventures trying to follow leads to find out who and what is going on with these kidnappings, but only when the trail leads somewhere familiar does the perpetrator become more obvious.
I love how these characters are growing in power and in their ways to work together. Raven is a strong character all by herself and whilst she doesn't need Cole to rely on to defend her in any way, they way they work together is hard to defeat.
This book was definitely an enticing read and although it could be read without reading the previous books, I would recommend that you do read them as they reveal more about the characters and storylines. So looking forward to the next one now after the ending to this book! Can't wait to see how Raven handles this new development in her life!
I did receive a copy of this book from the author but this review is all my own!
Awesome. Right out of the gate the story hit the ground quickly moving and keeping me on the edge of my seat to see “what next”. So many things happening and connecting the present with events from the past. Excellent……. I hoping for more. This book has so many different roads that it can take the reader on in the next novel. I believe the Arthur has hit her stride with this one!!!
Raven, the Queen of Covids, does not tolerate anyone messing with her family and everyone knows it. When her nemesis, Bane, forces Raven's sister into a bond, the fireworks begin. As McKenzie explains, "Raven's biggest strength was also her weakness, her family" Dark Legacy is a well-written, fast-moving urban fantasy filled with deliciously vivid characters, unexpected twists, and McKenzie's trademark, humor. Underpinning the plot, the heat between Raven and her husband Cole continues to sizzle. How could it not? "...Cole was still devastating to look at. He always had a lethal, rugged edge to his expression making him beautiful in the same way a tsunami about to crash on a shoreline is beautiful."
I highly recommend this book to lovers of steamy urban fantasy with a side of snark.
I love this series! It has everything - action, mystery, suspense, romance, magic and shifters! This is one of thise books that I want to fly through to fund out what happens next but at the same time savor each moment. I love the twists that pop up in this book and am super excited for more!
I love this series, I fly through it, just so much damn fun. I love how we jump several years ahead in this. All my favorites are back including Ravens crazy family. I wish these people were real, they sure feel like it. If you've read this far then you know how good these are. I will always be willing to immerse myself in this world as long as the author keeps writing them. Raven is my hero!!
Raven is pretty established as the Queen of Corvids, as this book jumps six years for Raven (but that happened in Juni’s story, it has a little backstory for where we find ourselves at the beginning of this book, so check it out if you haven’t yet). It’s sort of a typical kickoff for the Crawfords in that family is in trouble and everyone is ready to help, but also they have a PI business to run and a case to close.
Raven and Cole’s bond and relationship is a strong and delightful partnership. The work as a team not holding each other back.
I continue to love the wit and banter in these books. The relationship interaction and chatter is fast paced and on point.
Magic: 5/5
I really enjoyed this because so far into a series, it’s sometimes hard to continue to build on a magic system. Through Juni’s story, McKenzie has brought us more up to speed on the light fae, and that magic story intertwines seamlessly in this new installment.
Overall: 4.5/5
I cannot express how much I love the family dynamics. The banter between characters is a true delight of this series. In Dark Legacy we get to see Raven flex her fae muscles but also stick to her PI roots and personal morals.
Raven and Cole are back and not all is well in the shadow realm. This book picks up directly after Juni's 2 novellas, in which she gets herself into a bit of a pickle. I love the world in this series. The family and sidekicks are a delight. Plus, very nice take on shifters and fae. Steam is Not too shabby either. 😉
I received a free copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book takes place after the start of her new series, and has a larger time jump from the last book in this direct series. Juni has started to have her own storyline (the new series) so there are things you won’t know if you haven’t read the books, but there’s enough information given to figure enough out. This time around, we’ve still got cases to help solve, and family to help, but things get a little trickier and more interesting.
I think that this book gives us what we want most from this series- Raven helping solve craziness and protecting family and those who cannot protect themselves. Though a very large part of the book is about Juni and her bond, I feel like this was still Raven’s story. I think it will be interesting to see how they handle those loose threads, and what’s to come in the next story.
I have loved this series from the beginning. Every book has been well written & this one is no exception. Raven is a fierce, sassy, protective main character. All the characters are well written making this story a joy to read. I loved the plot twist in this one & the tidbit given about what’s going on with Bear. I like how the two cases intertwined & the introduction of the new characters. I am excitedly awaiting the next adventure & any new additions to the Crawford family.
This is such an interesting urban fantasy series with its multi-realm and multi-paranormals storylines with the added bonus of excellent engaging writing swapping between characters in the different books.
In the next book in Raven's story, she's still kicking butt and taking name. This story has all the hallmarks of the previous ones, with humor (dad-humor and whatnot), Raven's snark, and the deliciously dark Cole.
I recommend reading the previous books first for more enjoyment of the story.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is an incredible urban fantasy romance series. As of yet this has been my favorite book of this series. I love Raven and her family along with all of the development in their story. I am loving the dynamics, angst, twists, mystery, and action. This is an incredible read.
this is the first I've read in this world, yes it can be read as a stand alone but in my honest opinion better read with the others, As I have started recently
Book: Dark Legacy: Raven Crawford, Book 4 (Crawford Investigations 7) Author: J.C. McKenzie My Rating: 5 Stars Reviewed by: Tammy - Book Nook Nuts
REVIEW Raven is so mad she could pull feathers but not her own... Bane the pain in her rear end has a few surprises in store for her. He needs something so of course, he has to make Raven need something more in return right? Well maybe...
Juni...oooo Juni growing up brings so many problems. We get all the characters we have come to love / and or not in this one so prepare yourself for a rollercoaster of emotions.
If the Lord of War wants War... The Queen of Corvids will ... Loved it and can't wait for more!!!
I have read all the books in this series and this was a good addition. The story is unique which is hard in fantasy books. The powers that Raven has and the family and friends in her story all meld together well. The addition of stories about her siblings is cool. It's not always just about the lead character. The pace of the story kept me reading. It has action with a little romance and snark. I love snark. Great read and looking forward to the next one!

Review (english)
„Dark Legacy“, from J. C. Mckenzie, is the fourth, offical book in the Ravencrawford – Series and a must, if you loved the other books before. Anew we slip into the role of Raven Crawford and get to know, what happend after the third book. And guys, there was a lot happening, like powerchange, new deasaters and peace, which is now confronted with a new war. Literally speaking. And it was well done written, with loads of humor and fantastic scenes, which made me sometimes smile so hard, because they were just so great. Raven and her companiens had to take on new challenges and mastered them wonderfully. I cannot complain here. The Story was great, without too much and unnecessary drama and stress, but still had potenial to go up. And also, I kinda missed the action. In the previous volumes there was a lot more of it, which made the charging even better. But here it was kinda missing.
So, to sum everything up, I liked it. I liked it very much and so yes, you should read it, if you are fan of the series.
It's six years since the last book. raven has grown into her role as Queen of Corvids. There's also been a whole lot of things going on with her siblings in other series that I DID NOT know about. Bane, the Lord of War is still being a nuisance and has managed to engineer/take advantage of circumstances to bind Raven's younger sister Juni his caomhnóir (aka blood-bound guardian). Now Raven's younger sister is bound to her mortal enemy and is demanding that Raven drop the barriers she erected between the Mortal Realm and the fae realms.
Added to which, the trolls have come to seek Raven's assistance to find a missing troll prince, her brother Mike needs help finding a mortal boy who has been kidnapped, possibly by his mother who is estranged from his father. Also Raven's fox family have suddenly developed strange new physical attributes which are somehow linked to the issue which caused Juni to bind herself to Bane.
I love, love, loved the last book in this series. In retrospect t was clearly the finale of the series and this is the start of a new series. Hence this felt (to me) like scene setting, leading to lots of fun facts at the end of the novel but not really action-packed enough or with enough emotion to carry me along.
This is still a great series and I am definitely interested in where it is going next, but I also don't really want to read Raven eulogising about sex with Cole any more.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via Net Galley in return for an honest review.
What an exceptional addition to a continually outstanding series!
“Dark Legacy” is the seventh book in the Crawford Investigations Series and is just as mysterious, enthralling, and stimulating as those that precede it. Each and every chapter is filled with adventure and unique, captivating imagery that brings the characters to life. The contrast between the light and dark fae realms are written beautifully and are personally one of my favourite parts of this book, as well as the way each character’s humour, personality, and development is maintained so deep into the story and plot.
A good book is one that leaves you with questions and wanting more, and boy did this ever deliver! I am so curious about how Raven’s reign as the Queen of Corvids will continue on from here. More of Bane’s story and his past with Rourke is definitely something that I am dying to read more about in future books as well! One specific line between them in “Queen of Corvids” (Book #3) had me thinking “oooh, there’s history there!” I was so happy to see that that was addressed a little bit in this release!
Overall, J.C. McKenzie’s impeccable worldbuilding skills and loving, unforgettable characters will have you turning one page after another, unable to put the book down! If you are looking for a fantasy series to get lost in and add to your bookshelf, I cannot recommend this series more!
Raven’s latest adventures are quite the tale. She has lots of new responsibilities resting on her shoulders and a new PI case that may or may not be tied to a request for a favor from an old adversary. I’ve really enjoyed watching her family dynamic evolve over the last few books and I’m looking forward to see how she deals with all the new things in her life!
Cant say enough about this author. I love this series action, adventure and women who can kickass. Not to men the men. I am voluntarily reviewing an arc gifted by the author with no obligation.
