Age of Azuria #1

Buried Heroes

Rate this book
The stones echo as Iellieth Amastacia drags her heels through the corridors of Io Keep, bidding farewell to the few inside the castle walls who have offered her moments of happiness. Despite her best efforts, Iellieth can no longer resist the forced marriage her stepfather placed at the end of her path. A final transmigration stands between her and the slammed door.

But destiny--and the amulet--have other plans for the half-elf.

In a flash of light, Iellieth appears amidst the piled snow and howling winds of Torg's Peak. The mountain's bitter heart holds an ancient secret--a warrior, imprisoned long ago. Iellieth alone can awaken him, but in so doing, she will reignite a war for the fate of Azuria.

Across the Infinite Ocean, a pirate queen ravages the coast, searching for an ancient artifact, the key to her ambitions. The sea bids caution to Teodric, her newest captain, lest he fall to the admiral's raging whims as so many have done before.

Further north, a druid conclave battles its patron city for survival. As wielders of natural magic, they have long been the victims of history. Genevieve flees to the depths of the forest, where a long-lost magic blossoms.

Forces awaken across the world of Azuria, ancient enmities stirring that have remained stagnant for thousands of years. In book one of the Age of Azuria, Iellieth, Teodric, and Genevieve must confront the first crashing wave in a rising tide of shadow.

What a remarkable and refreshing experience! Buried Heroes made me feel like I was Druid walking through Ashenvale or Hyjal in my favorite pc game World of Warcraft. I could imagine the world and magic so well. I immediately got my newsletter novella and downloaded another novella from KU. I am so excited to read the rest of the series and dive into her back list of books

What I found absolutely perfect are the multiple POV weaving together to tell a page turner that kept my full attention. The imagery was breathtaking and everything I love of a fantasy world. Iellieth and Marcon and honestly all the characters were so good. But Marcon was the refreshing walking green flag of a MMC I needed. Iellieth will become my new Druid in WoW. I was completely immersed into the book and I am so excited for the book trailer @emeraldfrostdesign is creating!

I love epic fantasy stories that have an overarching evil to defeat while other conflicts are at play. The battle scenes were moving and the “found family” of Druids made it all the more heartwarming but bittersweet at the end. I am truly excited to read the next book!

Buried Heroes is one of those books that pulls you into a world so vivid, you can almost smell the magic in the air. Druids, pirates, shifters, cursed warriors—it’s got all the fantasy vibes, and then some.

Buried Heroes delivers a slow-burn story that rewards the patient reader with interlocking character arcs and vivid storytelling. Every narrative thread feels like part of a greater destiny—one I was absolutely hooked on following. If you’re a fan of found family, prophecies, ancient amulets, and slow-simmering romances (like glacial), this one’s got your name written in elven script.

Beth Ball’s writing is detailed and lyrical, but not too heavy. It paints a clear picture of Azuria while letting you really get to know the characters. It’s a slower pace, especially at the beginning, but if you like books where you can sink into the world and take your time getting to know it, this should be on your TBR.

It’s the kind of book that invites you to live in it, not just read it. So yes, I will be continuing the series!

This is an excellent epic fantasy that stands out for its unique and immersive world-building. This has a tapestry of druids, titans, and shifters—a combination rarely seen in the genre—which immediately sets it apart and drew me into the richly detailed world.

Beth Ball’s writing style is elegant and vivid, this showcases her talent as an author. The story unfolds slowly, allowing the reader to savor the gradual development of its multiple story threads, intense world-building, and complex characters. I especially adored the druid aspect and the way the magic and politics of their community are portrayed—it was truly a breath of fresh air from the stories I've read. The relationships among the ensemble cast of characters, though linked in subtle ways at first, begin to interweave in a manner that feels both organic and rewarding.

While the plot is a slow burn that takes its time to reveal the depth of its world and characters, this deliberate pace is a double-edged sword. For readers who relish dense, multifaceted world-building, Buried Heroes will be a delight. However, the sheer number of narrative threads and characters may feel overwhelming or even confusing for some. And this story has a lot of darkness that I was not originally expecting - but that is a huge draw for me.

Overall, if you’re a fan of dark, richly layered epic fantasy with outstanding world-building and nuanced magic systems, Buried Heroes is a must-read—even if its complexity might require a bit of extra attention.

Thanks so much to the author and R&R Booktours for the complimentary copy. This review is voluntary and all opinions are my own.

Fantasy lovers, buckle up because Buried Heroes is about to take you on a wild ride!

From the first page, Beth Ball weaves a mesmerizing story filled with druidic magic, fae politics, shifter intrigue, and an ancient warrior who holds the key to an epic destiny. Buried Heroes is everything I crave in a fantasy novel:
✔️ Rich, immersive world-building
✔️ A cast of unforgettable characters (found family vibes! 😍)
✔️ A plot twist that had my jaw on the floor
✔️ The slowest slow-burn romance (but trust me, it pays off)

Iellieth is a heroine you will root for—she’s torn between duty, destiny, and the deep longing for something more. If you love books with intricate magic systems, high-stakes adventure, and a beautifully written journey of self-discovery, you need this book on your shelf!

📚 Can’t wait to dive into the next book in the series!

🔥 Highly recommend for fans of Throne of Glass, The Priory of the Orange Tree, and The Stormlight Archive!

⭐ 4/5 Stars!

Absolutely loved reading this!! Felt like I was on adventure myself.

This book was filled with magic and adventure. I greatly greatly enjoyed reading this and I absolutely can not wait to continue this story wonderful story in book 2. I honestly just really loved reading this book, it felt really refreshing to read a high fantasy book again.

The author did a fantastic job at writing this book, I absolutely love the way she wrote the magic, the characters, and the setting, I was fully immersed with the story. I felt like I was on an epic quest along side Iellieth. Who I love dearly! I can't wait to see how she'll grow in the coming books! This first book has set the world in such a way that I greatly enjoyed and I look forward to reading the next books.

The characters we followed throughout the books were so interesting and I loved how the author wrote each of their "POVs". Iellieth, Teodric, and Genevieve, each of who are unique and very interesting. I can't wait to see they all meet up and how they will interact with one another. I honestly can't wait! I can't wait to see each of them grow and how they will be at the end of this series. 👀 I now am hoping that none of them die... 🫣 I will honestly cry! Omg why did I think that!? 😭 Here's hoping everyone gets a happy ending! 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻👀🫣🤞🏻😭

Now I think I saw that this was a slow burn? 👀 I hope it's Iellieth and Marcon, ngl. I love them! The POV that follows them might just be my favorite.. 👀🫣👀🤞🏻🤞🏻 And then I'm also hoping that Genevieve and Teodric will get together? Idk about that one tho, might be a stretch. 🤷🏻‍♀️ lol But we will see!

Now that magic system?! I absolutely love how it is written and how it works. I'm quite interested in learning more, I need to learn more. It was so well written and I'm just absolutely am fangirling on how it was written and I just need more of this magic and high fantasy in my life. I've missed it dearly. And I just absolutely love Druids!!! Absolutely love their power and how their magic is handle and it is done so well here! Absolutely love it!!! I'm screaming!! I just love it so much!!

That ending really leaves you wanting more! I need book 2, and I need it yesterday! I can't wait to continue this series!

I highly highly recommend this book! Especially to those who love high fantasy, slow burn?, found family, and so much more! This book/series has the feeling of an epic adventure and I can't wait to continue my quest in reading it! Lol
But seriously read this book!

Thank you to R&RBookTours and Beth Ball for a copy of this book in a booktour organized by R&R&RBookTours in celebration for the final book in this series!

I want to say a few things about the expanded edition to start with and then I’ll get into more generalized thoughts on Buried Heroes.
Buried Heroes is one of my go to comfort reads. It is a fantastic start to one of my favorite recent fantasy series! I couldn’t have imagined changing a thing, but fortunately for readers the author doesn’t share my narrow view! *GRIN*
This expanded edition for the book’s release anniversary enriches the world building and the character arcs without adding bloat or unnecessary filler. Everything flows naturally and beautifully, and it honestly builds a stronger foundation for the books that follow. An amazing feat considering how strong the author’s world building already is.
I will admit a tiny bit of bias, since this edition added a few chapters about the character that became my favorite in later books, so getting more from Briseras’ POV was an absolute gift!

Now, some notes about the book overall. I love the world building and character development in this series. The author begins strong in this book and doesn’t falter one bit. Every POV character is unique and not one dimensional. The world is fleshed out as the story progresses with the reader learning lore and details through the experiences of the characters and their interaction with the world around them. Buried Heroes is EXACTLY how you start an epic fantasy. Characters you love, villains you love to hate, and a world you want to return to again and again.

So, if you’ve visited Azuria before, I highly recommend revisiting this edition of the book. The additional story beats and POV chapters add nuance and depth to an already well developed story without feeling bloated or overdone. This isn’t an ego exercise or a writer rehashing an old idea just to make a buck. This is obviously someone who loves the world they created and the characters in it and wanted to share more of it with us the readers. It feels like sitting down with an old friend and hearing about how much they enjoyed a new version of their favorite food. It’s a joy to revisit characters one already loves and also learn more about who they are and see more groundwork for who they become as the series progresses.

If you’ve never been to Azuria and you like high fantasy stories with a touch of romance, dark fantasy, and druidic magic in a world of well written heroes and heroines, fantastic world building, and villains with depth and direction than do yourself a favor and pick up this book (and the rest of the series honestly). I cannot recommend it enough!

Thank you to Hidden Hollow Book Tours and the author for including me in the tour for this book, as well as a physical copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Iellieth Amastacia, the heir to the court at Linolynn, on the eve of her departure to be married off to the lord of her stepfather's choosing, finds herself teleported to a snowy mountaintop. There, she finds Marcon, a Champion of the fire god Ignis, who has been frozen in crystal for thousands of years. Across the Infinite Ocean, Teodric, banished from the court of Linolynn, is appointed captain by the pirate queen he serves, searching for a mysterious ancient artifact. Farther north, Genevieve, a druid, has to learn to accept the werewolf she's been transformed into. What none of them realizes is that their fates are tied to each other and to an ancient evil waking in Azuria.

Okay, writing a concise summary for this book was quite a challenge because there are A LOT of characters introduced and A LOT of threads woven together. Age of Azuria is a high fantasy series in every sense, and I loved the world building and character development Ball starts in this first book of the series. The story is told from various POVs, and although it jumps around quite a bit between the numerous players, Ball was able to do so in a way that didn't feel chaotic and helped move the story along at a good pace.

I loved that even though there are quite a few different characters, you really start to get a sense in this first book who each of the main characters are and where their motivations lie. There seems to be a hint of a relationship between Iellieth and Marcon, and I'm curious to see if it builds into something more in the following books.

If you're a lover of fantasy series with complex plots, rich character development, and the chosen one trope, you'll definitely enjoy this series!

Buried Heroes is a beautiful adventure full of heart, magic, and connection.

This book truly surprised me in the best possible way. I received it from the author ~ thank you again, Beth!

At its core, this is a lyrical, layered tale of finding your own place in the world. It's a story of belonging, growth, and the magic of nature.

Set in the land of Azuria, the story is rich with history, legends, and long-forgotten truths. I was completely enchanted by the worldbuilding, from the Champions of the past to all the ties between the druids and the natural world. The descriptions of trees, plants, and the elements felt so alive. It's like I could feel the forest breathing around me as I read.

We follow Iellieth, Marcon, Genevieve, and Teodric (among many others) on a journey full of danger, growth, and transformation. Iellieth's magical amulet, which connects her to Marcon, was such a unique element. And Iellieth herself ~ I simply loved watching her open up, make friends and slowly discover her place in the world. There's a strong found family theme here.

I also have to mention the romance. It's the slowest of slow burns, and it worked so well here. It never overshadowed the plot. And Marcon is so protective, strong and loyal.

There are pirates, shape-shifters, fae, werewolves, druids, titans, Champions... everything you could want in a high fantasy tale. But what stood out most to me was the magic system. The way druids are connected to the land, how their powers are expressed through the natural world ~ it was so refreshingly unique. Definitely something I haven't seen done quite in a while.

The writing is very poetic. Some moments were absolutely heart-wrenching, while others were soft, full of hope.

This book felt like a long walk through an ancient forest. I highly recommend it to all fantasy lovers, especially if you're drawn to Druidic lore & natural magic.

5 stars! 🌟

“Buried Heros” is the first book in the Age of Azeris series. For fans of immersive, magical adventures, unforgettable characters, destiny, and found family: Prove yourself, find where you belong, and step into the person you were meant to be in this gripping, first-in-series high fantasy novel.

Buried Heroes by Beth Ball kicks off an epic fantasy full of ancient curses, magical druid battles, political chaos, slow-burn romance, and characters you’ll want to follow into war.

Iellieth is a runaway noble with a magic amulet, an arranged marriage she wants no part of, and zero patience for destiny. But destiny doesn’t care. One amulet-activated teleport later, she’s face-to-face with Marcon, a cursed warrior who’s grumpy, loyal, and very much not ready to deal with feelings. Too bad they’re now magically tethered and the fate of Azuria kind of depends on them figuring things out.

And it’s not just their story. A pirate bard is out here making morally questionable choices to protect his mom, a druid is trying to stop an empire with more power than backup, and a fierce forest guardian is barely holding the line against monsters no one’s ready for. Everyone’s got stakes, secrets, and something to prove.

Beth Ball builds a world that’s lush, layered, and alive with magic. The POVs give you the full scope of the brewing storm, and the romance? Glacially slow and so worth it.

If you like your fantasy big, bold, and brimming with danger, found family, and a whole lot of magical mayhem—Buried Heroes is calling.

Thank you @mtmctours & @bethballauthor for the #gifted PR package and beautiful book! I can’t wait to read it. Let me know if you want to read it together.

Review:
Buried Heroes by Beth Ball is an exciting start to the Age of Azuria series/ The story is packed with magic, adventure, and characters you can't help but get invested in. The story centers around Iellieth Amastacia, a half-elf who’s been forced into an arranged marriage, only to find herself on a path she never expected. She ends up in Torg’s Peak, where an ancient secret could change the course of Azuria’s future. Meanwhile, we follow Teodric, a pirate captain tangled in a ruthless queen’s ambitions, and Genevieve, a druid on the run, discovering long-lost magic.

The way the author weaves together the different storylines is fantastic and engaging for the reader. Each character feels real, and the multiple perspectives really let you get inside their heads. The world-building is immersive, and Azuria feels alive, with everything from the icy mountains to the lush, magical forests coming to life. The magic system, especially the druids' connection to nature, is a highlight and adds a unique layer to the story.

At times, the pace is slower than I expected, but it’s part of what makes the character relationships so compelling. If you’re into high fantasy, magic, and slow-burn storytelling, this one’s for you. I’m already looking forward to the sequel! Highly recommended!

There was a lot of set up in this one so it did start a little slow but it did pick up pretty quick about halfway through and was sooo good!

lillieth quickly became a strong character in this one and I'm excited to see the full extent of her powers! I'm also enjoying the progression of her and Marcon's relationship and I wonder if they will be "together together" or if she is meant for someone else. It is interesting that the amulet is what "awakened" Marcon and I am intrigued to see how they could sever the tie and let Marcon live or if he only has the ability to pass on instead. I hope it's the former and not the latter.

I love all the povs happening. at first I didn't know where the connections would be but I can't wait for that final moment when everyone is in the same room, be it enemy or aly, and they all have different knowledge of everything going on. That's honestly the most satisfying part of reading all the povs.

I also really enjoy their magic system. Especially since it isn't that each druid is only that. They can be affected by other "curses" and still manage a relationship with both. And there is a true connection to the Earth that they feel and that can build them up, acting as a defender and companion for the druid, and that they can tell when the Earth is being hurt and can be used as a messenger. I just really love earth magic so seeing more of it will be another highlight I'm looking forward to in the series.

Reread of the Second Edition:

This is one of those books that feels like classic fantasy. It's epic in scope and rich in lore, but it’s also updated with a focus on characters and their inner journeys. I read the first edition earlier this year and enjoyed it, but the second edition hit so much harder. Part of that is probably because I’ve now read more of Beth Ball’s world and feel more grounded with the characters, but part of it is also just the strength of her storytelling here.

This isn’t a casual, background kind of read. It’s layered, intricate, and full of moving parts with a large cast. If your attention drifts, you’ll miss nuances that pay off later. But the reward for being fully immersed is worth it. You get a world that feels alive, with characters who are complex and flawed, and a darker undercurrent beneath it all.

Ball is the kind of author who trusts her readers, never spoon-feeding, but still making her points. That balance is rare, and it makes her stories feel both challenging and deeply rewarding. There’s light and dark here, and you can already sense how much further the series will escalate as these characters’ paths intertwine.

Exceptional writing, compelling characters, and a world that feels vast but deliberate. I’m so eager to see where this series goes next.

Thank you to the author and Hidden Hollow Book Tours for the complimentary copy. This review is voluntary and all opinions are my own.

I usually read books that have been recommended to me.

However, here's a book that I would recommend to you.

Buried heroes is the first book in the Age of Azuria series, and unlike many books, we get thrown into the action in the prologue! Immediately, questions are asked, characters introduced and a World begins to be built. From line one, the book hooks you.

After the prologue we begin to follow three main characters;
- Iellieth, a half elf who has been forced into an arrange marriage by her stepfather
- Teodric, a new pirate captain led by a vicious pirate queen who terrorises the waters
- And Genevieve, previously part of a druid conclave that falls under fire and results in her discovery of a long-lost magic.

With so much action and layering to the World, the story grows into a direction I'm incredibly excited to head in. Buried heroes has everything between magic, nature, war and even werewolves. And something very clever about the first Age of Azuria book was the mystery. We only ever know as much as Iellieth does, which is both infuriating and gripping.

Overall, Beth Ball has created an outlandish, extraordinary and fantastical world with unique characters and a layered plot, which I cannot wait to continue. Buried Heroes has it all for fans of fantasy and adventure, you don't want to miss out!

Fantasy lovers, this one’s for you!
Buried Heroes by Beth Ball is an epic fantasy with druids, titans, shifters, and a whole lot of magical mayhem. The world of Avarin is gorgeously built—full of deep lore, mystical creatures, and a slow-burn plot that pulls you in like a forest mist.
Lellieth’s journey of unlocking her magic is pure fantasy gold, and the cast of characters feels real, flawed, and fascinating. Yes, it’s a bit of a slow burn and packed with plotlines—but if you love rich world-building and stories with heart (and a little darkness), this one delivers.

The characters are diverse, dynamic, and emotionally real. I loved following their different storylines—Lellieth was captivating in her strength and vulnerability, Teodric brought courage and complexity, and Genevieve’s connection to nature and magic was beautifully done. Watching their arcs develop and wondering how their paths might intertwine was one of the most engaging parts of the story.

The writing style took a little getting used to, especially with how new names and places are introduced without much initial explanation, but once I recognized it as part of the storytelling, it flowed naturally. If you enjoy fantasy with layered characters, interwoven plots, and immersive lore, this is a fantastic start to what promises to be an epic series. I can’t wait to see where the story goes next!

What did I like about this book? This is usually the question that is answered... Well Beth Ball... I loved everything. Let's start with the prologue that immediately gets you into the action and what action. So believe me from the first line you are intrigued and captured by the characters, I was full of a thousand questions. In the book we will follow three characters: Iellieth, Teodric and Genevieve thanks to which we discover a magic lost for a long time. In this book we find so much action, mystery and a world built in a unique way on multiple levels that I would not mind living in. While I was reading it I could not think of anything other than the characters and all the stories that the Author intersects with each other... Believe me when you finish it, you will immediately want the sequel... My favorite character is Iellieth with her growth until she becomes a confident woman. But I am fond of all the characters like the Magical Genevieve and I can not wait to read about their developments in the following books. If you like the epic fantasy genre and love druids, werewolves, fairies, elves, vampires and many other mystical creatures, you will love this book as for me it has become my favorite fantasy read of this 2025.

If you like any of the following: druids, werewolves, daiman, dryads, satyrs, shapeshifters, fae, elves, fairies, vampires, gods and goddesses, ancient warriors, naiads, pixies, pirates, or just about any other mystical creature, you’ll love this book!!

Written through multiple POVs, I felt like I was witnessing a huge DnD adventure. All of these characters and stories are woven together so intricately I was itching to pick the book back up any chance I got. Since this is just book one of five, I am still left with so many questions! I’m eager to continue through the series soon and see what happens with my favorite characters.

I loved seeing the growth Iellieth made. She went from a quiet yet defiant girl to a powerful and confident woman. I know her adventure is only truly beginning. All of the characters are complex and fighting their own battles as they begin to come together to defeat a great evil.

This book is quickly paced but don’t think it lacks on details. The world building is top tier in every place that you visit along your reading journey. Thank you to Hidden Hollow Book Tours and Beth Ball for the gift of this book!

“Great potential lies on the path ahead of you and great peril as well.”

Do you like epic fantasy with detailed world building and unique storytelling? Then this is the book for you!

What I liked about this story was that it isn’t like a typical fantasy. We also have druids, shifters and titans coming into play in this immersive world. I loved how vivid and detailed BB’s writing was. It really made me picture everything so much easier and feel like I was also in this world with these characters.

In the beginning it was a bit slow for me. There was a lot of information coming in and a complex cast of characters. So for me it was a tad confusing until everything really got going. But I ended up loving how the characters were all interconnected, especially because it was written so subtly at first.

This book might not be for everyone. I feel like you really need to stick with this one in the beginning to get the pay off. So if you enjoy complex and compelling stories with a variety of characters and many layers that add depth and more complexity, then this epic fantasy adventure is one you’ll want to pick up!

This is a tale of fantasy and adventure, of self-discovery and personal growth, werewolves, elves, magic and druids. Fate of the world hangs in the balance, with chosen-one vibes, found family and snail pace slow burn romance (no spice), this book really does kick off with a bang.

This story follows Leillieth, a half elf who is faced with a difficult decision… accept a forced arranged marriage to a horrid nobleman from a rival kingdom or stay with her abusive stepfather and neglectful mother. As she has accepted her fate and made her decision, a magic amulet that belonged to her father transports her to a distant mountainside where a warrior holds the key to life. Making allies along the way, she must embrace the adventure and more importantly, her destiny.

The writing style took some getting used to but this was an overall pleasant read which I enjoyed. I loved the characters and how dynamic they were. Lellieth was captivating, Teodric was courageous, and Genevieve was magical! I can’t wait to see more of them in the coming installments.

I want to start off by saying that it was the cover that had me wanting to read this book. I know I know. But Omg I feel in love this book and surprised how much a I really loved the characters and the world. I must of been sitting under a rock to never know about this boo. I am ready to start book already. To which I purchased this book ebook and the second book already. I am completely invested in Iellieth Amastacia and Marcon. I really hope in the next book we see these two get closer. I love that fact that he calls her lady but doesn’t use her first name. This book has wolves and magic and kingdoms and ugly step fathers. To which can we be honest I didn’t like that fact not even her own mother stood up for her. Just Let her step father decide her fate.
I couldn’t put this book down. Definitely a page turner. I love how strong Iellieth is determined to search for her father and helping her new friends.
I fantasy favorite of 2025 Highly recommend this book I also found my new auto buy author!
Thank you to the author and RRbooktours again for this amazing read.

It’s like being thrown into a stormy ocean without a life jacket. So much going on all at once without any explanation. Feels like hundreds of different names were being thrown at me without any references as if it is a sequel. Too many characters’ lines to follow - each with their own set of a hundred new names every few pages - to be able to keep up.
Waves and waves and waves of new separate characters’ storylines with their own hundred names without references. I was drowning.

I thought it would click at some point… I did not. At least not for me.

At 25% tried to help myself and focus on dialogues. 30 pages in there still were new storylines and new characters’ chapters added. Waves and waves of new separate stories with either very long descriptions or short back and forth endless and meaningless dialogues….

Starting from page 150 I just skimmed.

At 50% with still new storylines being added I drew a line as a sever headache developed. Enough is enough. Well, DNF it is then.

I can’t even rate it since I gave up. It is not for me for sure.

I liked this book a lot! The world building is very in depth; I was fully immersed in the world of Azuria from the start. The characters are quite diverse, but also relatable and genuine. I really enjoyed following along with the few different story lines, wondering how they fit together and if they would ever intersect. This story almost feels like it picks up where another one just left off. Which makes sense, since there are a couple of novels that come before this story, and fortunately, a few that come next in the series as well! The only thing that took a little getting used to was how the author would drop new names with little to no explanation of who they were. But once I recognized it as part of the writing style, it was fine. Fantastic story, and I would really like to know where it goes from here!

Buried Heroes is the perfect fantasy novel to get lost in while cozied up in your favorite reading spot. The world-building is rich and immersive, making it easy to feel like you’ve stepped right into Avarin alongside the characters. Iellieth Amastacia is such a compelling protagonist—her journey of self-discovery and unlocking her magic kept me hooked. I especially loved the magic system and the variety of fantasy creatures, from druids and werewolves to elves and other mystical beings. The story is filled with adventure, mystery, and a sense of wonder that makes it hard to put down. If you love fantasy with deep lore, fascinating creatures, and an enchanting world, I definitely recommend this one!

• Chosen one
• Found family
• Slow-burn (like super slow)
• Romance subplot
• Fated lovers
• Search for true self

Thank you so much to the author and R&R Book Tours for the gifted copy! 🥰🫶🏼

“Great potential lies on the path ahead of you and great peril as well. I saw a bright, glowing fire, but it did not consume. But there were other instances of trees burning, the woods washed away beneath the flame.”

This was such a read! I’m lacking on words to explain it properly but this was such a good fantasy! The world building wasn’t too much and just enough to have you imagining yourself there (imo) The characters were so cool and I love them all! They get you heavily invested in their journey and I loved that so much!

This is a story that’ll have you forgetting reality and responsibilities while you read (it may have happened to me 🤣)

✨Found family

An easy story to get lost in. The author reels you in with such imagery that you visualize every detail described throughout the book. A vivid, immersive plot that makes you feel as if you are reading several mini stories that are brilliantly weaved together in a high fantasy epic tale. I enjoyed the way the characters are described in this book; each with their own problems, adventures and dangers.

There are a lot of moving parts and various characters who each have their own POV chapters therefore annotations and highlighting may make it easier to follow along with each moving storyline because eventually they will overlap and merge together in the grand scheme of things. This does end on a cliffhanger and not a pleasant one which only makes the desire to reach book 2 even greater.

This story packs it all in:

High Fantasy
Adventure
Prophecy of a Chosen One
Multiple POVs
Vampires
Found Family
Magic
Druids
Werewolves
Mages
Warriors
Slow Burn/Romantic Subplot

Alternate world created with many varieties of beings from werewolves to elves to druids to, well, many more. Ball writes well and develops her characters carefully. The multiple lines of the plot head off in various directions while facing the global threat of evil. I am somewhat underwhelmed, as it seems to glorify and extoll magical abilities such that whatever is necessary will eventually come to the protagonist and allies through training and coming into harmony with the natural world. Ball writes well enough, but this philosophical direction palls on me. The world seems awash in wishful thinking for control so that the individuals strive to fulfill their own wishes. Some of course, are evil and fully self-centered. Others are "just wanting to be free"...and yet that is often enough (I believe it is actually always) negative too, even when well-intentioned.

There are so many things I want to say about this book. From the start, you're grabbed by a sense of urgency, and this book doesn't let up once it has you. Ball uses vivid descriptions to transport you right into the thick of everything, and it really feels like you’ve been transported to this world where magic, both good and evil, thrives. The world-building is only second to the complexity of the characters. While life is rarely black and white, dire circumstances have brought these unlikely heroes together, and you’ll be just as invested in them as you are in the overall story line, that twines them together. The pacing is excellent, and the action scenes will get your heart racing. I swear, there are moments where the air you're breathing feels thick with tension. I cannot wait to see what book two has in store!

A fantastic epic fantasy, BURIED HEROES is the story of ancient magic, adventure, destiny, and finding your place in the world. The world Ball created was rich and dimensional, creating the perfect backdrop for our cast of characters that includes lesser-seen mythological beings like titans and druids alongside the more common fae and shifters. The story slowly unfolds as readers are taken on an exciting adventure where a woman is caught between duty and destiny, figuring out where she belongs, and finding family and love along the way. The romance is beautifully slow, almost painfully so at times, but definitely worth the wait. I adored this first installment and can’t wait for the second one. 4 stars. Add this to your tbr if you enjoy:

➽ Found family
➽ Slow-burn romance (like super slow)
➽ Chosen one
➽ Destiny
➽ Star-crossed lovers
➽ Search for true self

My goodness, this is a fantastic book! While I could go on and on, I won't. The book starts out focusing on Iellieth Amastacia, a young noblewoman being forced into marriage with a cruel nobleman her hateful stepfather has chosen. But there are other characters that come into the story and will have important roles to play in future books, of that, I am sure. The characters are all absolutely fascinating with convincing and diverse personalities that kept me engrossed in this book. There is also a lot of magic and violence throughout this book. This book ends in a cliffhanger but as a longtime fan of high fantasy adventures, it has left me eagerly awaiting the next book. I highly recommend this book to other readers.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary ARC received from the author and Hidden Gems.

If you enjoy gritty magical escapades, unforgettable characters, and heart-wrenching found family relationships—this one's for you!
Prove yourself. Find where you belong. Step into the person you were meant to be.
Buried Heroes carried me along on its poetic prose and rich world-building. Iellieth's journey is one of self-discovery and inner fortitude, and I adored how her path crossed with Marcon's—a curse-haunted warrior and time itself. The magical system is a natural one that is one of my favorite aspects—it's heavily based in druidic mythology, both mystical and real. With multiple POVs, we also get Teodric and Genevieve, whose journeys bring depth and mystery. If you enjoy slow-burn epic fantasy featuring bits of belonging, sacrifice, and the strength of choice, then this is your next fantastic read.
