this manhua means a lot to me

I fucking love manhuas and manhwas. It's a type of content that I enjoy a lot. And damn, this one made my hearth both swell with warmness and tenderness and broke it into a million pieces. I just had a intense cry with the ending and damn. It made me company throughout this past couple of days and it was so captivating, I couldn't stop reading. I love the characters so much!
That said, it is quite a bit too long? I found myself thinking that there were parts that just took too long to happen even though we knew it was coming. And I'm saying that as a person who enjoys books in which nothing really happens, like just slice of life type of reads. Still it was quite a bit too long for my liking. Still to me reading the whole thing was worth it. After fighting with the internet to find the translated versions of the second part of season 2 for a long while, I couldn't just not finish it. And I'm glad I did actually managed to get my hands on those last chapters and read them.

This is one of the most captivating Manhua I've ever read since it speaks the struggle of most Asian LGBTQ+ members within their family. However, as much as I love the MC's, there's just something off about the flow of the story. It's too long for its kind and perhaps the author just really wanna earn from this manhua, her art tho deserves recognition and all.

Few books have made me feel as much as this one did. The emotional highs and lows were incredibly well handled. If you're looking for a story that will move you deeply, this is the one to pick up.

I have to be honest...
I do not know about other people who read this manga (whoever read it, I would love to hear your opinions, so feel free to message me), but I cannot endure this any longer. This is just too much... I am giving up... For now... Maybe I will come back to reading it someday, but I bet that is going to be the moment when I am extremely bored... Ruo Xi and Yi Lin abd this manga almost became one of my favourite projects, but it turns out they will never make the list thanks to the AUTHOR herself... I DO not know if she did this on purpose, made something this long without a purpose in order to keep audience glued to her work, or was forced by a publisher to do that... But this is npt fair. And this is me saying it, a fan of long works. But when the work is long with purpose and on purpose. I m at the chapter 520 with incredible headache, following the adventures kf those two faithfully, but to what end? Everything the author wanted to tell could have probably been told in around, approximately, 300 chapters or so... Probably less... I dont know... There were 3 points of reference for the story, important to mention, author wasted 400 chapters to come to the first one and then waited like a desert wishes for rain to face the next two. And the story continues even after this, but the author with her ways made my so unwilling to continue her work and I am so sad myself that I am not the only one to say that.
I do not want to sound ungrateful, disrespectful, I m not. This manga kept me company and brought me joy for a while. But as someone who is a bibliophile me myself personally cannot follow this project any longer. Because when something is written just for the sake of being written, when author forgets why they started the project in the first place, it takes out all of the beauty out kf the project...
The author knows why she is keeping it this long and ongoing... She does... But I doubt audience asked for it...
Dont get me wrong, artwork is very nice, idea also, characters interesting, every single one, but build up... There is none... You think there is, you get your hopes and you get disappointed.... Not to mention the author noticed that she spent 400 chapters on high school unnecessarily and then abruptly jumped 2 years ahead and then some more. It is obvious she lost herself in writing this project and things went from very good to... Hm...
I was happy to follow this project, now I m just so sad I have to abandon it due to not seeing the purpose of reading it any more. I will miss Ruo and Yi a lot, a loooot, but author thank you for making me unwilling to follow them any longer.

This GoodReads entry doesn’t look like its actually the right/real thing, but its all I could find and I felt like leaving a rating/review/record so it will have to do! This is likely because there isn’t a “real and official” English translation for this manga. This manga is also something like 928 CHAPTERS (of varying length) so who knows how accurate the page count is. Various translations I have found have differences in them, so reading experience may vary (a fan translation done by “Datanono” was absolutely awesome; they add a lot of their own flavor to the story without changing it)
Anyways, this is one of my favorite things I have ever read. I have re-read it a few times over the years. Its slow in a lot of places and probably has a lot of extra padding, but its all enjoyable from start to finish. This is the story of two adorable people slowly falling in love and then working on making that relationship last forever. It is toothache-ingly cute and heartwarming. It is filled with lots of drama but 95% of it is low-stakes and easygoing so its easy and non-stressful to read. Its simply fun, silly, and heartwarming. Following the characters for multiple years of their lives, and so many chapters, you really connect with them and get invested in their story.
The story takes place in China during a time where queer relationships are not accepted (marriage is illegal) and this has a significant influence on the story. There is a section near the end where I always bawl my eyes out, so fair warning.
Spoilers below:
Part 1 (488ish chapters!) takes place in high school over the course of a year(ish). The protagonists do a bunch of standard high school stuff as a backdrop to the slooooow burn of their relationship. They start off strangers with no idea that they could possibly be anything other than heterosexual, and move at a snails pace to admitting it by the end. This is mostly fun and angsty at times, with a lot of coming of age vibes.
Part 2 (440ish chapters) Time-skips a bit into their second year of university and follows the protagonists as they have a relationship, and we follow them as it develops. This part covers some much more serious topics as they are navigating what it means to have a queer relationship somewhere that its not widely accepted. This includes parental opinions and perception by society. Occasional bits of homophobia are thrown around. There are also a lot of incredibly heartwarming parts as they are finally together, and we get to enjoy it. .

I want to give this a 4.5 because this book (when translated by datanono) is written beautifully, the art is gorgeous, and the story in the first volume will have you giggling and kicking your feet. That other .5 is not the tears that I shed or the fact that I waited 6 years for this story's ending. It's not even for the fact they had an admirer every turn. It is however for the absolute stupid split they have AGAIN. When you can finally dry your tears, catch your breath, and realize OMG they're gonna do it we're finally here.

Also how many years were they split? Contact was so easy for them once they had their life figured out. I understand that it was in China when homophobia was still pretty relevant, but the love those two shared made me question my own capabilities when it comes to it. I will always love the book but that ending seriously fucked me up. With everything that had happened to them, the constant conversations about their future, the fact Rouxi literally said "we'll do whatever they need to be okay with us" and then...is gone? What they had most people can only achieve in extensive day dreaming sessions and when it came to the ending we were just supposed to take it. The author is awesome and I know she wanted to get started on Lala but other chapters drug out to the point of nail biting. THIS ending absolutely could've been indulged.
Aside from my rant this book is beautiful I remember reading it a bit in middle school, then highschool, then it got lost, then I remembered it, HUNTED for it, found it a couple days ago and have been in a protective bubble so I could read it. I've read it. I loved it. My heart hurts. Enjoy.

I was hooked from the beginning when they were in high school and loved watching them flourish in college, but...
This was far too long, with unnecessary drama added in to keep it going. By the time Yi Lin's childhood friend shows up I was rolling my eyes.
The ending made me upset. I can see what the author was going for, but it could have been better in my opinion. Some things were left up in the air about their future, which bothered me since they had so much time apart.

It took me a while to get through this because I kept picking it up and getting distracted with something else. But this has been one of my favorite manhwa glg stories.
Volume one was beautiful - no notes (it’s been MONTHs since I finished that part).
That said it’s been an absolute roller coaster ride on volume 2. Many people are saying that it could have been shorter and yes, it could have. But also - the ending happens VERY quickly so that could have had a bit more to it? But I don’t think I’ve ever had a manhwa that had me feeling so IRL physically anxious. I think because there was such a level of realness happening… but I feel like it was worth it in the end. 10/10 would recommend.

IM AN EMOTIONAL PUDDLE
lily is a slice of life manhua that follows the progression of a relationship between 2 girls / women from when they first meet at high school to their lives as adults and everything in between. it holds a special place in my heart because i've never read another gl with this much development of the characters and their relationship. i was so deeply invested the whole way through despite the length - it's really long but it's worth it !

DNFed this :/. lmao i think i stopped this around ch.138 or something?? 😵💫 like they’re at this camp or whatever oof,, n e way, it sorta fell off around that point + couldn’t care much for the story or characs. i skimmed ahead and looking at the spoilers, i didn’t care for the upcoming drama or conflicts at all so 👍 seemed kinda shoehorned in/pointless
