Jon Steadman is back, facing off against a shocking conspiracy of global proportions.
Rookie FBI Agent Jon Steadman is butting heads with his insufferable boss and battling his personal demons, when he is called upon to investigate a radical U.S. congressman. Jon is partnered with Ivy-educated, single mother Agent Carrie Santiago and brilliant Israeli geneticist Dr. Terry Lavi, a woman he prefers to avoid. But, when the FBI, CIA and Mossad combine forces, conflicting allegiances and old resentments begin to flare.
As the mystery unfolds, their pursuit uncovers a decades-old plot, exploiting the far edges of science, aimed at bringing America to its knees. The mission takes them across the globe and face-to-face with an untold evil that will threaten their very survival.
Nellie Neeman is the author of the Jon Steadman Thriller series. A native New Yorker, she now resides in Cincinnati and Jerusalem. Resurrection is her second novel.
My, my, my, but Resurrection carries on beautifully where Spree left off, but with better thrills, more story twists, and gut-wrenching action. Jon Steadman is back, caught having to stop another international conspiracy, save the world, and catch the bad guys. And it all stemmed from such an innocuous assignment. Excellent. The setting, all over the world. The people behind the conspiracy, invisible. The conspiracy itself, right out in full view of the adoring public. I like the international flavor of the various settings. It would seem to me that the thoroughness with which Neeman writes about these places, she must have lived in most. Either that or she has a crack story research team. The story itself has that same international flavor. It just seems to roll easily from the Americas to England to the near east and to the far east. But all of it threaded so perfectly into a smooth, cohesive, exciting… well, chase. Every word added to the reading experience. After her first book, Spree, I can visualize the movies that will be made based on these books. As a screenwriter, I found myself picturing the locals as I read. The whole reading experience just flowed so nicely. I already have my copy of her new book, Vengeance. I can’t wait. Resurrection doesn’t stop twisting and turning, and moving to new dimensions. For me, Resurrection is a five-star read and Nellie Neeman is a five-star story teller. This is the second in the Jon Steadman thriller trilogy (or will there be more?), following Spree, which came out last year. Spree was very engaging; Resurrection is more so.
The well-nuanced main characters appear again, but many new ones are introduced. Multiple interesting and well-described locations—places the author has personally visited—are colorfully woven into the story, including places in Israel (Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Eilat, Haifa), Europe (Rome, Prague, Andorra), and even USA (New York, Chicago, Dallas, DC)—with well-drawn descriptions of monuments, architecture, street scenes.
The basic plot is sophisticatingly science-based but yet frighteningly believable. Yes, there is some violence, but not so graphic as to be distasteful. No, there is no overt sex, albeit there are some suggestive implications.
One particular statement caught my attention and rang true: ‘It’s just a matter of time before someone else achieves what you have.” (As a guy who has taught Intro to IP Law many times, this is remarkably similar to the well-established patent law principle called “Ripeness of Time.”).
And, of course, there are numerous surprising plot twists and turns. Ah, yes: stay tuned!
Resurrection does what every good sequel should, raise the stakes and expand the world. Jon Steadman is back in an action filled adventure that takes us from Brazil to North America, to the Czech Republic, to Israel and Italy. Along for the ride is Carrie, a CIA agent and mother. I really like Carrie as a character. Although she's talented she also has her weaknesses; she's not just a Mary Sue but like a real person. There's sort of a will-they-won't-they going on between Jon and Carrie, which I also really liked. Our favorite Israel geneticist Terry Lavi is back too and plays an important role. Another standout character is our villain, the man in the camel hair coat. He is interesting and scary. The final battle against him is a real page turner. What I also loved about this installment is the world building. Neeman sets the scenes so well you would think you traveled around the world with Steadman. During this pandemic when international travel is restricted, it's the perfect escapism. I highly recommend it!
Having enjoyed book one in the series, Spree, I was eager to see where Jon and his friends went next. The author did not disappoint. Right away I was caught up in their newest adventure. (I don’t want to spoil it here but it wasn’t something I had read about before). Needless to say, after reading the book, I want to hop on a plane to visit all the locations they visit. New characters were a welcome addition and I look forward to seeing where the next book takes them all.
Another worldwide tour in this political conspiracy thriller. Jon’s matured a lot since the first book here, and despite some difficulties in his personal life, he finds himself right in the middle of unveiling an international political conspiracy that could change the course of the United States of America.
Nellie Neeman never disappoints. I only put the book down because I HAD to go to sleep. Another page turner! Finished in 2 days! Can’t wait for the next book!!
