Hate. Retribution. Revenge. It burns in my veins and keeps me awake at night, hunting Crown City’s streets like the ones who took from me. But it’s not these streets where I want to spill blood. It’s over there, across the bridge. Where the shadows of this world cloak their sick, foul secrets…and where they trade magic for mortal lives. I can’t get across there. Can’t walk in their world. If I could, I’d take this knife and shove it between his ribs. But I doubt I’d find a heart. None of them had hearts. Not their leader, Shrike, or Mojin, the one I see the most, or Honor and Ruin, the ones I don’t see. The ones no one sees. They’re the ones who corrupt. They’re the ones who kill. They’re the ones who took my brother from me… Only I found a way to get to them now. This new seductive club the Wolves opened called Dark City needs mortal women to entrance these beasts and I’m the one they’ll want. The one who hides the truth behind her smile. And a knife against her thigh. Only when I take my chance I’m the one taken instead. But my enemy doesn’t want me dead…they want something else. Something those dark Unseelie eyes promise…and I might never sleep again.
Note: Each Mafia Monster series can be read as a stand alone in the same world. There is cross over of your favorite characters to help you understand underlying motivations better, but it's not necessary to read from book one.
I always loved paranormal romance, then I discover reverse harem, and last year Atlas Rose and Kim Faulks introduced me to the mafia genre with the Mafia Monsters series and I fell in instant lust, I mean love. The series is filled with fierce female leading characters who give just as good as they get and aren't to be trifled with along with the dark and dangerous supernaturals who love them all set in the glitzy seeded, underhanded world of the mafia. First is was Ruth Costello, the mob boss's daughter, and her vampires and then it was special FBI agent Carina Chase as she joined the wolf pack. Finally, it's the fae's turn to meet their match, or should I say mate in Isabel DeLeon.
As I said before when it comes to the leading female character in this series they all have a few things in common, they're smart, fierce, strong weld, stubborn, have little to no survival instinct, and maybe a little self-destructive but that is why I love them, they are flawed but they power on, determined to get what they want. Ruth surprised me by being kind and utterly clueless about the illegal side of her father's business. While I didn't like Carina, she was quick to pin the blame on people who had nothing to do with the situation, she was pig-headed to the point of annoying but she didn't back down from what she wanted.
Now Izzy is a mix of the two, Izzy isn't a bad person but Izzy is crazy af and is determined to kill the Unseelie because she thinks they are the ones who killed her brother. She is driven to the point of recklessness, and the shit that she pulls in this book dropped my jaw, she knows it's a bad idea and just goes and does it anyway, she loses all focus on everything but the one task of killing the fae. I feel kinda bad for Iz, she is nothing but rage, complete and utter rage which I don't blame her (most of the time) she has no family, her life is not the best, working a dead-end job, and a gang leader is lusting after her, I can't really blame her for her rage but her rage is a beast. However, as much as she rages against the fae she can't seem to stay away, it's a lot of denial happening there but it looks like the useelie likes Izzy's brand of crazy.
Just like with the other books in this series, Fae's Torment is told from multiple perspectives and it was really interesting seeing things from the fae's point of view. The vampires, the wolves, and their mates all perceived the fae a certain way, they are kinda aloof as a species you can't quite tell what they are thinking but know they are dangerous af. This book has Shrike's (the alpha), Mojin's (the warrior), and Ruin's (the cursed) point-of-views and it kinda blew my mind. Shrike is cool on the outside but simmers hot, he is passionate when it comes to Izzy, Mojin is playful and it's adorable, while Ruin breaks my heart. Ruin has a whole back history that is just hinted at but the way the other talk about him the way he sees himself... it all gets to me. Now don't get me wrong they are this way with Izzy any other time they are completely savage, like do not mess with them but they love the savagery that Izzy points to them, they crave it. The Unseelie are dark, savage creatures, who like control. It is said if they mate, that it is brutal and completely destroys the female and from the responses, the guys give at different points in the story they agree. However something is up with Izzy, I don't know what but imagine what kind of woman can survive an Unseelie mating. I can't wait to see how this goes but I know it's gonna be hot, heck this book was already fire.
Most of the book was about getting to know Izzy, to understand her better, and to see her rage, and the bonds she forms with the fae. However that's not the only thing going on, humans are dying the fae are connected and someone is pulling strings in the background. First, the vampires were attacked, then they came for the pack, now it looks like the Unseelie is gonna need a little help. However, The dynamic between the immortals is also something that I want to understand better, because while everyone is cool, the three factions aren't as close-knit as I thought they were and I would for that to change but love to see how it plays out. There is talk about the Inner Circle still causing problems, a mysterious hunter, and lost bloodlines. This plot is intriguing, to say the least, so much is going on, so much I don't know or understand, especially when it comes to the Unseelie but I wanna find out.
Fae's Torment was everything and more, it beyond met my expectations of the series and is a fantastic addition to the Mafia Monsters series. Passion has been ignited, rage consumes, and there was a sense of savagery that couldn't be denied. Something is lurking about, trouble is brewing for the Unseelie and it looks like Izzy is smack-dead in the middle of it. This book was fabulous and I'm already ready for more.
Revenge, mystery, suspense, action, desire and passion are all things that come together in this amazing read. I am loving the start to the Fae's story. It is engrossing and kept me on the edge of my seat. This is a fantastic addition to the Monster Mafia series and with the cliffhanger, I am excited to read what comes next.
I've loved all the Mafia Monsters series so far. The Vampires and The Wolves books were both brilliant reads so I was dying to get my hands on the Fae's series and Fae's Torment didn't disappoint.
Isobel (FMC) is completely out of her depth when she goes seeking revenge after her brothers murder. She's so bad*** and sassy that you actually find yourself routing for her but it doesn't go to plan. The Fae are definitely dark, dangerous and very seductive especially Shrike, Honor, Ruin and Mojin. The dynamic between her and them is so flaming hot!! It was so good as was this book too. I'll be on tenterhooks waiting for book 2 now
I was reluctant to dive into this book. It does have a note that says, "Each Mafia Monster series can be read as a stand alone in the same world. There is cross over of your favorite characters to help you understand underlying motivations better, but it's not necessary to read from book one." The thing is, I don't always trust authors when they tell me a book can be read as a stand-alone, especially when—like here—it is either book 7 in an over-arching series or book 1 in a new one. In the end, I gave it a read. I'd say it's just followable. I was really confused in the beginning and, honestly, never had a firm grasp on the world. The struggle is trying to pick apart what I wasn't understanding because I'd not read the previous books (that the authors say aren't necessary) and what I didn't understand because of poor plotting and world-building.
Despite all of that, I was still able to enjoy Izzy and the fae's insanity. None of it makes much sense, if you think too hard about it. She's always trying to kill them, for example, but never seems to do more than press a knife to their neck or leg. If you really wanna kill someone, why are you pausing to threaten and not just doing it? Over and over again, I wondered this. And the potent mix of hate and lust that the fae so liked in Izzy would be seriously detrimental to her mental health. Talk about toxic and abusive! But by the end I was invested in the craziness enough to look for the next book (which isn't out yet).
My only real gripe (besides the thin world) was the utterly unnecessary attempted rape scene. It contributed nothing to the book other than the apparent authorial need to ask, "can a heroine truly be strong unless someone's at least tried to rape her?" It didn't even make sense. She suicidally throws herself at groups of immortals but basically does nothing but beg when a couple human men nab her. Ummm, that's one seriously inconsistent characterization there.
Outside of that, I did have fun with this one eventually. It's never going to top my favorite list, but I look forward to book two in a "it's bonkers but fun" kind of way.
I feel like I have been waiting for this book to come out for like FOREVER! So we are finally getting the Fae's story and OMG is it a story that you will fall in love with. For one we have the whole mystery of what is going on. We know that if people want power, they pay the Fae to be able to get that. However, they do not get the mortality aspect that the fae have. So here is the thing. We have one really p-off chick and her name is Isabel. Now why is she so hell bent on getting revenge. Well that is what we are trying to find out. Now what I love about this chick is that she is like a mix of Ruth and Carina. Dang she is a spitfire if I have ever read one. She seems to be a strong willed women however, I think that is what she wants people to see but deep down inside she is a scared women. No matter she will go toe to toe with the Fae. Shrike, Mojin, Ruin and Honor seemed to be intrigued by this woman. It is not just her looks but something calls to them deeply. Do they know what it is? Not sure. They just know that no mortal woman can handle them but they see something with Isabel. Even though she has tested them waters they still are enraptured by her. What can she do to really tee the off is the question? I am not sure that she can. I think they see it as a tease or foreplay. This is definitely a slow burn and when it does happen... Well it is EXPLOSIVE!! Sheesh this book is hot and I cannot wait for the next book in this series.
I rarely have run into a main character that is so unbelievably unlikeable. Angry, so so angry. Rash, no decisions she makes make any sense. I kept wondering if she is suicidal or just stupid.
I only kept reading because I thought it can't stay this bad. At 50% no character development from the MC. She has the ability to switch between utterly terrified and stupid angry in an instant. 70% still angry and doing something really really stupid. How many empty threats can one utter? 80% still angry, but with sex. 90% angry but with a pet now, because she can't rationally think and sees nothing wrong with having a pet shadow living with her. While still hating everything not mortal. 100% nope, still angry.
2* because the male characters chapters were interesting. I actually want to know more about the world and what's going on. If there weren't the small issue of a FMC with anger issues. And that the MMCs think it's hot.
I don't need to be able to connect with a FMC. But this level of annoyance is too much. Rage is good, I like strong emotions in books.. if they develop. But here it just stays at angry and so so unreasonable rash behaviour. While reading I wasn't even wondering what the heck the FMC was thinking, I was wondering if she was thinking at all.
Isabel is out for revenge, against the unseelie's who took her brother, with the police of no use she takes matters into her owns hands, hunting down leads on the mortal side of the river but the ones she wants are just out of reach. That is untill she starts to work at the new club run by the wolves, that gets her closer to them. When the opportunity came for her to strike she miscalculates their power and ends up taken by the Fae. Drawn to the pulsing darkness that surrounded Isabel, Strike and Mojin felt possessive the moment they first saw her. Add into the mix Honor and Ruin and their desire builds to explosive levels. The need for revenge, the changes to the unseelie's world, the deaths linked to the Faes wards, just what is going on in the immortal world. Book 1 for the Faes but part of a bigger mafia monsters series. Well written gripping story that keeps you on your toes! Filled with suspense, desires, action, teasingly steamy hot scenes and more! A great addition to the series. This book ends in a cliffhanger

This is the first book I've read from this author and it definitely won't be my last. It's said that this book can be read without reading the others but it's best to read them in order and I couldn't agree more. I wish I had read the other books first so I could have been familiarized with the characters because it took me a while to really get into this story. I spent a lot of time trying to connect who was with who. There were a lot of characters that came into play in this story however, once I figured out who and how each of the characters were connected, only then did I really start to enjoy the story. I enjoyed this story a lot and the cliffhanger ending left me wanting more. It was funny, there was suspense, great characters, steamy scenes and more. I'm needing more of Isabel, Shrike, Mojin, Honor and Ruin. I have so many unanswered questions and I'm defintiely loving how Isabel challenges all of them. I refuse to give anything away when it comes to this story but I cannot wait to read the next book in this series.
What a fun, sexy, entertaining book! It has everything I like all in one. Paranormal, mafia, mystery, drama, humor. Isabel is so full of rage over the death of her brother that some of her antics border on insane. She places her bullseye on the Fae. They get blindsided by her but completely intrigued at the same time. The story gets told by multiple POV and there were times when I had to roll back to the beginning of the chapter to remind myself where the POV was coming from. There is a lot of sexual tension-there are some very sexy scenes in the book. The mystery portion is solid and runs alongside the relationship aspects. I am very curious about what is going on with Isabel and the part she is unknowingly playing into all of it. Looking forward to book 2 in the series.
For those that are sensitive to these types of topics- this book does walk a line with regards to consent in some situations. There is a SA attempt present in the book. Also themes of addiction and stalking.
An enticing enemies to lovers story!!! Solid 4.5 stars.
The only thing I didn't like about this book is that I didn't know it was from a series, even when its a standalone, so I felt kinda left out , because I would have liked to know more and trying to understand the characters took me longer than if I had already read the other books, however I loved it!
The story line was very interesting and intriguing with a sassy, opinionated and strong heroine seeking for revenge and one of the best enemies to lovers plots I've read.
I'm totally hooked and looking forward not only to the next book but to read all the previous ones!
So first off there was some slight grey consent issues in this book so if that’s a trigger then this book is not for you.
But I loved the world the author created, I’d actually love more stories from this world. The characters were gritty and imperfect but oh so intriguing.
The main character was a very strong woman and a vulnerability too.
I’d recommend this to readers who like their fantasy with more steam but it didn’t take away from the storyline.
I only wish they were narrated with a male and female so I could listen to these books while multitasking.
Wow what an exciting and entertaining story with Isabel who’s out for revenge against the Unseelie because she believed that they killed her brother, I liked Isabel she was a bit crazy and the rage that she had for the Fae well let’s just say that I wouldn’t like to meet her in a dark alley at night. The guys Mojin, Ruin and Shrike are very attracted to Isabel because of her savagery and that’s what the Fae crave most of all. Sorry guys no spoilers this is an amazing story and I can’t wait to read book 2 and I definitely recommend this book.
WOW, JUST WOW!!! It's been a while since I've been in the world of the Dark City but this morning as I finish 'Fae's Torment' my heart is racing and I literally cannot wait for the next book. If you've read any of the Mafia Monster books, whether it be Wolf or Vampire, then you should have some idea what to expect. If you haven't, then OMG are you in for a treat. There are so many twists and turns I can't begin to tell you without spoiling part of the story but the adrenaline rush as things unfold is unbelievable. I so want to find out about Isabel's shadow. Mind blown!!!
★ “She was real and vivid, a dangerous little mortal.“ ★
—>>> Review Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars - Kicking off the first story of the Fae Mafia Monster series is this delicious offering from this author duo, and it brought all I expected…except, of course, for the story to continue immediately! The mystery of this PNR breed is slowly being uncovered, as they fight their commanding pull to this perfection of a female spitfire, the only one who has dared to go after them in a club which is owned by these otherworldly males.
This is a new to me author and I was pleasantly surprised! At first it was a slow start and I truly thought I wouldn't even finish the book, I'm one that likes to be sucked in from the 1st chapter! I'm soo glad I didn't stop and the story got good after that slow start! Loved the characters especially our secret shadow creature! Isabel is strong but fiesty, yes the men drive her insane with rage but deep down she needs them just as much as they need her! I can't wait to read the next book and get some answer’s!
Oh my goodness,I don't know why I keep doing this to myself. I like to wait until the while series is out so I can read them all together but I just can't. This is excellent! A great start to the Fae series. I love why they are after Isabel. The emotions that drive her are what make her perfect for them. I can't wait to see what happens in the next one. Fae's Torment is book one and a great start to the Fae Mafia Monster series. If you have read the other Mafia Monsters series then you know you are in for a treat and I definitely recommend you read them to fully understand what is going on and who the characters are. This captivating read is packed with magic, intrigue, twists, interesting characters and a cliffhanger ending that left me so ready for the next book in the series. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
I've read a few RH books in the past and been put off but this was strangely on the money. What I really liked about this book is the fact there is a plot. There is a story to it. Its dark and its full of animalistic or beastial urges. Will be exploring the other books by Atlas. Strangely hooked on her books
The story line itself was interesting. I wasn’t a fan of the female mc. She just refused to use her brain at all. The biggest downfall though was the editing. There were so many errors with sentence structure that it took away. I’m not sure I will attempt book 2. I’m just not impressed.
Love this series and The Fae addition doesn't look like it will be any different. Finally we get to see inside the world and minds of Shrike, Mojan, Ruin and Honor. Add Isabel to the mix, their mate and we are in for a steamy and adventurous ride! These men are obsessive and she's rejecting every moment of their attraction.
Wow. So much happening. I love the FL. She is bada*s or she tries to be. I love all the ML's characters. They are all savage but at the same time they care about her instantly and want to protect her. I am left wanting answers. Like the shadow that protects her. who is he? I hope we find out more about the shadow. And all the guys. I need more.
What a start to the Fae's story. Isabel is an unique entity all on her own. Shrike, Honor, Ruin and Mojin, I need more of them. So many questions have been built up and I can't wait for the answers.
This adjacent series is pure, angry fire! Isabel is supposedly human, my bet she's lost royal unseelie fae. She's a female version of them, I swear. Then the mystery of her protective shadow, that should be very interesting!
Fae's TormentIs a fantastic read that pulls you in from the moment you start reading! Interesting characters and engaging situations make this a great read!

It's a long and grab your r attention book. Towards the end things take a shift and we can see what will be for the four of them. Finding their mate... but things are not going to be easy.... she is owned.
Enter the world of the Fae. Isabel wanted revenge against the Fae she thought killed her brother. But she finds more than revenge. Dark, dangerous and sexy alphas. Can't wait to read the next book.
