Courage is the foundational virtue required for the Christian life. But often we wonder if we have what it takes to live the vital life Jesus offers his disciples. In Jesus and the Call to Brave Faith, pastor and author Tom Berlin challenges us to unlock the courage that we already possess as Christ followers. By examining the life of Christ, we will begin to understand what true courage is and how God works in the lives of Christ followers as they exhibit a brave faith. Once we have eyes to hear what Jesus is showing us, once have ears to hear, we can begin to find the remarkable life Jesus offers us.Additional components for a six-week study include a DVD featuring Tom Berlin and a comprehensive Leader Guide.
Drawing upon the words and example of Christ, history, stories of others, and personal experience, this six chapter book provides opportunity for self-reflection and/or small group discussion about features of courage (clarity, conviction, candor, hope, fortitude and love) and the need for their display in day-to-day life. Similar in length and style to preceding books, the author's combination of scripture, facts and story yields the desired effect of "comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable" so that readers of all ages and perspectives will likely be nudged to more courageous living.
I really enjoyed reading this book with my Sunday school class. We had some great discussions and I think we all liked it. I had never heard courage broken down into these six elements, and I realized that to have the courage to accomplish anything, you need them and in the order the author puts them. Great, thought-provoking book!
Tom Berlin’s book, “Courage”, makes for an engaging class Bible study. He weaves together different characteristics that comprise courage. He brings in examples from the Gospels, primarily Luke, as well as personal experience. Our class received it quite well.
Was a great book for a small group study. I particularly was motivated by the 3rd chapter: The Candor Of Courage as I've never been good at having difficult conversations. The only problems is now I realize my problem is just lack of courage!
