He appeared out of nowhere in my neighborhood bar - naked, blue-eyed, flickering with blue and white light, a silver hammer perched on one muscular shoulder.

I, Silvia Hope, should have known right then I was screwed.

When he walked out of the bar without a word, I thought I’d never see him again. Naked cosplay? Drunken dare? I figured I’d never know. Until, on my walk home, there he is again, fighting with another guy in the park by my house.

Then the lightning starts, the glowing eyes, and the guy he’s fighting seems to transform into a giant snake.

I start wondering if someone dosed me in that bar. Still, I take Thor home, where he tells me he’s a god. Oh, and thanks to a Dragon God named Jörmungandr, I have some kind of magic object embedded in my throat, and there’s a good chance I’ll die if someone can’t fix me, fast. So that’s neat.

Meanwhile, Thor stares at me a lot, and man, can that guy stare. It’s really not fair, that stare, especially with those eyes.

I know it’ll never work. I mean, he’s a god, I’m a tech nerd who can barely make rent. Then there’s that whole, I’ll-probably-die thing, thanks to his crazy Asgardian family. But we keep getting thrown together as he tries to save my life, and it’s getting harder to pretend the only sparks between us are coming from his hammer.

This book intrigued me because I am a sucker for anything regarding the old gods; in this case the Norse God of Thunder Thor. Was I expecting a literary masterpiece? No, of course not. But, what this book is, well... it just is. The characters were bland and had no chemistry. The romance was non-existent, or at least there was not enough of it to make a believable romance between the FMC and Thor.

Also, some inconsistencies were outright annoying. And they appeared right from the beginning. For example, our FMC mentions while with her friends at a bar that she has a 1 bedroom apartment in which she lives alone. Just a few pages later, she now lives in a two-bedroom flat with her roommate.

And as others have stated on here, this felt like bad Marvel's Thor fanfiction. Seriously, Thor was as likable as a brick wall. And even then the brick wall would have more personality.

I will not be continuing this series.

Wonderful mix or urban fantasy and Norse paranormal romance in Andrijeski’s unique style

“Thor” marks the start to a new urban fantasy series by J.C. Andrijeski (“Gods on Earth”), a delightful new story featuring the Norse Pantheon in a way you might have not been expected, unless you’re already a fan of Andrijeski’s, then you have already learn to expect the unexpected, been awed every single time and enjoy the ride 😊

“Thor” has been in my TBP list for while and scheduled TBR in about over two months for now; I got the book unexpectedly (keyword when dealing with Andrijeski) two days ago, I tried to put it on ‘its’ TBR place, no chance “Thor” demands your attention. I just wanted to take a quick peek, and after two coffee breaks later and another night short of sleep, I finished fully entertained, yet not fully satisfied, for that I still to read “Loki”, “Tyr” and any other Norse God story in the series coming my way. Andrijeski is addictive – I already knew that – expect the unexpected; However, always paired with non-stop-reading session, fast-paced action, humor (dark and otherwise), carefully world-building that mix elements of urban fantasy, Norse mythology (and she gets it right!) and paranormal romance, all perfectly wrapped up in Andrijeski unique writing style.

Just in case you want a peek at the story: As Jörmungandr (Jör for short and Loki’s son) steals the Andvaranaut (An Asgardian relic) and brings it to Earth, Thor follows him, only to get sidetracked in the transfer and appear wielding Mjölnir and bare-skinned in a club in front of Silvia Hope (FMC). As Silvia follows Thor and witness a confrontation between Thor and Jör, she finds herself at the center of fight for the Andvaranaut, that will get her through realms. Silvia reactions and Thor’s obviously ‘God out of Asgard’ (aka ‘fish out of water’) reactions are a source of never-ending enjoyment. Thor is funny, to the point of whimsical but absolutely credible at all times, while Silvia (in her state of shock) just seems to take everything in stride. Another Andrijeski’s best… just beware of side effects… such as lack of sleep, reddened eyes and an over-caffeinated head, or schedule a nice daytime reading session to avoid them 😉

Goodness Thor Comes Back To Earth OVER 18 READING

Thor comes back to earth again sent by his father to re over the ring Loki's son has stolen from his father. But due to something he is not sure of he lost his clothes before he arrived. He didn't realize he had been away so long because it didn't look at all the way it did before but he still smelled beer so looked into the club. His eyes locked on a young woman Silvia and he was telling himself this wasn't possible but she and everyone else was looking him over because this huge beautiful man just came in wearing only his birthday suit and carrying a huge hammer. She leaves the bar to go home but sees him again having words with another man that doesn't seem right in a language she doesn't understand. There is magic and the one he's talking to turns into a snake like creature and goes up above the trees and disappeared, did someone slip her something in the bar because this can't be real but it is beginning to feel like it might be. She gets caught but ends up helping him by taking him home so he has a place to sleep, giving him some of her roommate's clothes and ordering pizza for all three of them to eat. This seemed to be the funniest stranger meal ever , the more he tells her the .more weird things that happen starts leading her to believe everything and that is before the instant traveling to his world and back. But as the story continues her life gets in danger and as his nephew put the ring inside her (the poison from it will kill humans) to blackmail Thor into breaking his word to his father to bring him back. Can Thor save her life? What is the secret of why he would care if a human he just met ( or did he??) was in danger. They continue to be drawn together as they travel to his world to try and get help from his brothers and back to fight it out on earth. What will happen when he finds Loki's son the dragon god? What will Oden do when he has to come down? There is a HEA ending. Next is Loki's story.

A Light Hearted Romance Between A God & A Mortal!🐍⚡💘🔥💥
A Fun 3.5 Star Read.🌟
(Read using Kindle Unlimited)
Thor: Gods on Earth #1

I enjoyed this first book in this series. It's unlike anything else I've read by this Author. This was a fairly light hearted & fun romantic fantasy read.

Thor, the Asgardian God of Thunder, arrives naked in the middle of karaoke night at a drag bar. He garners a LOT of attention.😍 Silvia is there with her bestie & roomie, Morty. She loses eight of the hot naked guy when he walks out of the had door. Later she spots him again & goes to investigate. She's stunned by what she finds, it's inexplicable!😳⚡🐍

He looks at her as if he knows her. She actually believes his explanation about being a God & that he's chasing his errant nephew down, which is really weird!😕 The next day his nephew inserts something into her neck that will slowly poison her, Thor vows to save her!🙏💘

This is quite fun, Morty is a hoot.😂 I liked Silvia & Thor's chemistry & hidden past. I love the Norse mythology aspect & would've liked more information on that side. It felt a little thin on world build & explanations at times. It specifically mentioned she chose to wear a silver ring her mum gave her, as if it was relevant, but nothing came of it? Things like that are odd to me. Don't get me wrong though, it's definitely worth the time to read it, it's under 4 hours. Loki is next!😍

Web designer Silvia Hope was in a drag bar with a friend when she saw a blue-eyed hot guy who was naked and carrying a large hammer suddenly appear across from her. She then followed him as he walked out of the bar to a square. She saw another guy then appear and they got into a fight. It appears the original guy is the god Thor and the second guy is the dragon god Jörmungandr who then embedded a magical item into Silvia's throat. The bottom line is that Silvia might die if it is not taken out and Thor tries everything he can think of to get it out of her - including taking her to Asgard and having sex with her in the hope that his essence will help stop the effects. Silvia now realises that she has lost the battle to protect her heart and that it has already gone to Thor. Can a god and a mortal have a future together and have a happy ever after?

This was a very dramatic story that took the reader on a very short and quick journey through some of the Norse gods and the relationships between them. I liked the way that Thor had no idea of how to behave and what certain things were and meant, and I also liked the relationship between Thor and Silvia and the origins of that. I loved the solution that was presented at the and I hope that the next book in the series is as good as this one. Contains explicit sexual content.

Someone forgot to add the romance to this romance book!

This is an urban fantasy romance story that follows Thor as he arrives on planet Earth while hunting down an important artifact and how on his first night there he comes across a woman that captures his attention. I enjoyed the author's writing style, I thought it set the mood of the story pretty well. Aside from that, I didn't like anything else.

The main character was completely boring without an ounce of personality and reading from her perspective is underwhelming. I can count on my hands the amount of times she talked in this book and I would still have fingers left. Thor also lacked anything resembling personality, he was just... A God.

The romance.... Yeah no. There was an instant connection between them and then they had sex but not once do they ever show emotion for one another. It was all so dry and off putting, they also never seem to spend time alone. Pretty disappointing considering they're supposed to be getting to know each other.

Just... Dissapointing

I enjoyed this. It's a light-hearted, simple story with pretty hot sex. I can't say it was stunning or stand-out, but it was exactly what I was looking for. A simple, well-written paranormal romance that would end in a happy ending.

The female MC was a little passive for my tastes. I like a little more attitude and doing stuff from my heroines. The male MC made up for it. I mean a god of thunder would be larger than life. Best part of this book (for me) is that the editing was skilled enough that I could actually just *read* it.

Being an editor as a day job... you'd probably be appalled at how vanishingly rare that is for me. I can't turn off editor brain at all anymore, so a book where I can just read, in blessed silence... it's invaluable to me. It got an extra star on that point alone. Already partway through book 2.

Recommend for those nights when the world is too much and you just need to escape.

Insert Thor's hammer sex joke here

Perhaps I've watched the Avengers series too much, but any reference to Thor and Loki, and those are the faces (and bodies, yowza) that I visualize. That is not a bad thing, in case you were wondering. I've not read the appropriate mythology to know if Thor's speech pattern originates there or in the MCU, but it definitely sounds familiar.

The story is decent, with appropriate suspension of disbelief needed for paranormal romance on a number of levels. Thor's as randy as a teenager, with an appropriately willing human companion.

An example of the writing:

"Truly, from what Loki told him, it hardly mattered what he said to these Earth humans, not in this day and age. According to Loki, any human speaking as a god would, just in the course of normal interactions, would likely end up in some sort of special building, where they would be looked after like pets and fed mind-altering potions."

Ok, I have no idea when and why I picked this one up, but it was seriously light, silly, fluffy fun (which, hey, perfect for lockdown).

It felt a lot like MCU fanfic (which, since it's something I already read regularly, isn't actually a criticism), with just a little more delving in the the Norse source material than Marvel Studios ever managed - at least I remember Jormangandr ever turning up in the movies - maybe he did in the comics? Regardless, I heard every line Thor spoke in Chris Hemsworth's voice, and I'm not sure that wasn't deliberate on Ms Andrijeski's part.

This was very much a 'hang your brain up at the door before you sit down' kind of book - as long as I don't think about it too hard, I keep mostly enjoying it.

Silvia Hope is surprised when the naked blond man appears in the club where she and her friends are hanging out. But what shocks her most is the fact that after she leaves the club, she follows him into the park and then she takes him home. Thor couldn't believe his eyes when he caught sight of his long lost mate in the bar, but he has business in the human world and can't take the time to find her until he tracks down his quarry.
Wonderful, well written, unique, and I thought convincing characters. A sexy mythological god, a little bit of suspense, some surprising twists, and magical battle between gods. I think this is a must read, I loved it.

Thor walks into a bar...

You know the story is going to be good when the first scene is Thor walking into a bar naked. :D Also at the bar is Silvia and her best friend Marty. Silvia makes eye contact with Thor and seems to be drawn to him. Later, after both Thor and Silvia leave the bar, Silvia is again drawn to Thor, who happens to be having a conversation with someone in the park. Silvia ends up bringing Thor to her house and gets wrapped up in his world, especially with his nephew Jor. I really enjoyed this book because it has everything I like to read Norse Mythology, steamy sciences, humor, sassiness, happy endings, and Loki as a cat.

You know the story: a god snd a tech nerd meet in a bar... OK, not really all that common at all, but in the hands of JC Andrijeski, Thor (Gods on Earth, Book 1) is the perfect blend of urban fantasy and action (starring a fantastic lead in Silvia, the tech nerd, and so much more), and yes indeed it’s full of the promised paranormal romance (I loved “fated mates”) with Norse Gods (including sexy Thor of course - lucky Silvia), tricksters, and so much more. Totally fun. Totally delicious and totally (highly) recommended.

Not great

I skimmed this, a LOT of it. I found it overly descriptive and needlessly repetitive. There was a story there, but I feel like it got lost in a host of unnecessary words. I wanted to love it, and didn’t.

On the other hand, serious kudos to the author for use of really good vocabulary. I know that’s a weird thing to say, but some of those descriptions, repetitive though they were, used really good language. Words that just don’t get much use and really fit well in that moment. That was very well done. I wish I had loved the story as much.

Great read

This story was at times funny, then sad, with a lot of action scenes. I couldn't help it, I pictured Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and Natalie Portman as Sylvia. It really made reading the book, like seeing a movie. I really loved the Loki like tendencies his son displayed. Very smooth, and smarmy, in a psychotic kind of way. Just enough steamy parts, without making it the whole reason they are together.

The Norse god Thor is on Earth to find his nephew, Loki's son for his father . While there he meets a girl. Both his nephew and Loki use her to get to Thor. Very vivid description made the pages seem to turn themselves.
I found the story concept to be interesting. It is an adult book. It is part of a series, but can be read as a stand alone. I would recommend this book to mature adults who enjoy steamy romance novels, if they like Norse mythology it does enhance the story.

Thor

In this new series Thor is reunited with a past love, named Sylvia, from another lifetime only to have her catch the eye of Loki's son , Jormungandr , who has nefarious plans involving his father Loki. This book had a lot of action, great descriptions and tender moments. I really enjoyed it.

Awesome, original take on the god of thunder

Yes, he’s THAT Thor—not the Marvel cinema one, but the Norse myth one. This original take on the gods of Asgard starts off with a bang, literally, plunging a naked Thor into modern San Francisco. Elements of fantasy, mystery, adventure, and romance make this an awesome read 💜

Great new series

Love this new series! I like that the books take some of the traditional mythology but put a new and more modern spin on it. Beautiful writing as always. The romance is sweet and hot. There’s a bit of spice but nothing super explicit. I can’t wait for the next books in this series.

Unfortunately, this was a very low three stars for me. I thought the concept was great, but the book itself was super lackluster. There was very little character development, plot, or even steamy scenes. I honestly just felt like I wasn't reading much of anything. It was so disappointing. I might continue to the next book, but I don't have high hopes.

I'm a sucker for a Asgard story.

If it's done right and this one so IS 'starts happy chair dancing '.

What would you do if Thor turned up, waving his hammer and nekkid?????

I'd follow him too to see what happens, Sylvia is a woman after my own heart.

I think I'd get travel sick with the pinging about she does lol.

Believable characters, brill story.

I love Andrijeski's writing, so I was happy to order Thor without reading any blurbs. The story line was good, with an interesting plot. Although shorter and less layered than her usual tales, it was an entertaining read.
