My background:
Introvert that does not enjoy public speaking and therefore seeks out learning material to improve.

Description
Molly Bishop Shadel is a lawyer and professor that teaches public speaking. The lessons are clearly structured, actionable and the tone encouraging.

Concerns
The sound quality was not pristine. Not bad enough that it in any way inhibits the ability to follow the material, but the recording is not studio quality.
Sometimes the examples lean a bit much to situations a lawyer would be in. The author also brings in many other types of examples, but it shows that the usual target audience of her courses are young law students.

Strengths
There is a huge wealth of knowledge, experience and inspiration in this book. It will be rewarding to both people who need to use public speaking in their everyday lives, but also people like me who just want tools to feel more confident for the times when they DO have to speak publicly.
The advice is concrete, plentiful and actionable
The book is well structured. The book is fundamentally about communicating better and the skill of the teacher shows from her own structuring and narration.

Conclusion
If you want more tools to address public speaking this book is a great holistic introduction to how to do this well.

The audiobook provided good advice on speaking more effectively but there were several sections that I would skip entirely. Chapters 1-5 were more of an analysis than guidance, especially when the lecturer referred to political speeches as examples (not relevant for everyday communication). Then the chapter on negotiation weirdly uses a scene from a Western movie as an example of tough negotiation. Really?! There isn't any realistic scenario that can serve as an example?

I listened to this course straight through, and I found it pretty interesting. It actually was really nice learning about some of the logic behind speech, and methods you can use to improve your speaking.
After the fundamentals they give a run down on how to give quality speaking’s in a variety of scenarios. From weddings to funerals and everything in between. This will be a good course to revisit from time to time. Worth your money for sure.

Methodical and logical. This course provides a concrete foundation for writing and developing speeches and even engaging in conversation. There are many examples given and almost step-by-step guides to produce quality materials.
