‘’The understanding of a disease reflects the interactions between mind and body’

Author Jane Rivers made her publishing debut with PAGANISM FOR BEGINNERS, followed by TAOISM FOR BEGINNERS, BREATHWORK, and now AYURVEDA FOR BEGINNERS - a refreshing concept to explore! While there are many self-help books on spiritual matters, Jane brings an accessible mode of writing to assist us in understanding various forms of spirituality.

The Introduction to this new book sets the tone for the information Jane shares so well: ‘Understanding Ayurveda, or what might also be called “ayurvedic medicine,” is a specified lifestyle system that people from India have used for more than five centuries. Ayurveda promotes good health practices by way of prevention and the treatment of illness and/or disease through multiple lifestyle practices, and by the express use of herbal remedies and dietary influences. Ayurvedic medicine tries its best to be “holistic,” which means incorporating the physical body, the spiritual body, and the mind functionality as a whole And Ayurveda not only treats an individual’s physical complaints, it also adapts lifestyle practices as preferences to help maintain and improve overall health.’

In this user-friendly manner Jane presents a fine overview of Ayurveda, and in easy to understand terms she explains the three doshas – Vata (air and space), Pitta (fire and water), Kapha (earth and water), keeping her discussion of these integrations as simple and readily available to comprehend in the manner in which she describes all aspects of ayurvedic medicine. Her presentations of the healing, dietary, and spiritual aspects are solid as is her inclusion of a fine discussion of mindfulness, meditation, Yoga, Earthing, chanting and sungazing! All the many terms in Ayurveda are well explained.

Erudite yet wonderfully entertaining to read, this is a fine way to broaden our horizons of beliefs – and practices. Very highly recommended.

A good, basic book to learn Ayurveda - a medicine and healing system with ancient roots in India. The author introduces some basic principles and theories for a beginner to understand Ayurveda. A good read for those who want to bolster their health, strengthen their immune system and increase life longevity.

I listened to the audiobook of this title and I do not recommend it. This kind of a book is meant to be a reference book and one would need a hard copy to be able to refer back to things. I listened to the whole thing, but most of it went in one ear and out the other. Maybe a few things stuck, but not much.
