A spin-off chapter book series in the world of the Flytrap Files, from New York Times bestselling author Tom Angleberger!
After working as a nanny for the power hungry ShrubBaby (a deceivingly adorable baby shrub), DJ Funkyfoot—a chihuahua who dreams of being a butler—has finally landed his dream job. A real actual butler gig! He’s been hired to butle for President Horse on the day that the president needs to sign a peace treaty with the Queen of Wingland. But the president doesn’t feel like it. All he wants to do is kick back, relax, and play some mini-golf. It’s up to DJ Funkyfoot to get the president through his mini-golf game quickly so he can get the treaty signed on time to stop the war and save the day!
The books will take place in the same world as Inspector Flytrap and Didi Dodo but do not require knowledge of the world.

DJ Funkyfoot is back with a new assignment. I really loved the mini golf course he goes to. There is a cheese fountain big enough to take a bath in. Nachos, anyone? This was not as much fun as the first one and baby shrub. Not sure if I will be on the lookout for #3. There are so many great graphic series out there.
Thank you to Amulet Books and Edelweiss+ for a DRC in exchange for an honest review.
First sentence: My phone rang. “Greetings,” I said. “I am DJ Funkyfoot, and I am at YOUR service.” “Oh, I’m sorry, sir,” said a polite voice. “I was trying to reach MC Funkyfoot.”
Premise/plot: DJ Funkyfoot is back for a second adventure. (You can read my review of his first adventure: DJ Funkyfoot Butler for Hire. Long story short, I adored it.) Our delightful hero is still looking for work as a butler! His short time as a nanny didn't convince him to change career paths! (Far from it!)
In this second adventure, he finds work as a butler. But he isn't just going to be ANY butler. He's been hired on--for a day--to be the BUTLER TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, President HORSE.
President Horse absolutely needs to stay focused on the task at hand--signing a peace treaty--but, well, he has other plans for the day. Plans that include mini-golf! Can DJ Funkyfoot find a way to save the day AND be a good butler?!
My thoughts: I really loved, loved, loved the first book. I think I still prefer the first book to the second. I mean the first book was just AWESOME and hilarious. The second book is good fun, perhaps even great fun. But it's definitely different. While I think the first book may have children's giggles in mind, this second book may be more geared towards adults giggling.
The President of the United States is neither a donkey nor an elephant. He's a HORSE. And, well, he's not a very effective president. In the course of one day, President Horse has a couple of tantrums!
Quotes:
There was an iguana selling hats that said PRESIDENT HORSE IS GREAT! She had no customers. Next to her was a komodo dragon selling hats that said PRESIDENT HORSE IS NOT GREAT.” He had a lot of customers. “Ever since he declared war on Wingland, everyone is mad at him. Especially people from Wingland.” “Are you going to go out of business?” “No, I’m just going to write ‘NOT’ on these hats with a Magic Marker,” the iguana said.
“I’m the President of the United States,” he said, “and I do what I want. And you are my butler, so you do what I want, too! Right?” “Yes, sir, Mr. President,” I said, clinging to his mane as he charged through the red light, right between two speeding Cousin Yuk Yuk’s Pickle Relish trucks.
My 7-year old really enjoyed this silly chapter book about a butler who must get a stubborn horse president to do his job instead of playing mini golf. I liked the first book in the series better, but this one also made me smile.
I received an electronic ARC from ABRAMS Kids through NetGalley. DJ is back for another adventure in being a butler. This time, he relieves the US President's butler so he can take a vacation day. As readers would expect, this does not go smoothly. DJ works hard to be a proper butler even when President Horse throws a complete temper tantrum and cheats at miniature golf. In the end, DJ saves the day and the world. Mid and upper elementary level will love the absurdity that continues in book two of this series.
Another hilarious installment in the DJ Funkyfoot series. This time, Mr. DJ Funkyfoot finds himself the temporary butler of the disagreeable President Horse G. Horse. When President Horse demands a round of mini-golf over signing a Peace Treaty, will DJ Funkyfoot be able to save the day? Hilariously odd and perfect for elementary readers and fans of graphic novels.
DJ Funkyfoot gets the call to be President Horse G. Horse’s butler for the day. And it’s an important day. After all, the President is signing a peace treaty with the Queen of Wingland to prevent a war from starting at 11:3o. But President Horse doesn’t want to sign a treaty. He wants to play a round of Mini-Golf. What can DJ Funkyfoot do?
I read this with my 10 year old son, who loved it. I, however, am not at all the target audience for this book, and it is not one that translates over to adults reading as well. Great for kids, do not recommend for parents, unless you want to have the urge to throw the book out the window...
DJ Funkyfoot is hired to be the butler for the POTUS. It turns out President Horse is more interested in playing and cheating at mini-golf than signing a peace treaty. Although, a butler is hired to say yes DJ Funkyfoot is not ok with this, and final puts his foot down.
DJ Funkyfoot gets called on by a butler to cover for him when he takes a day off, which leads him to the White House. Instead of signing a piece treaty like he is supposed to, President Horse G. Horse demands to go mini golfing. I always like when surprising and goofy things happen.
