Book #2 in the graphic novel series from New York Times bestselling author Beth Ferry celebrates the magic of making believe and making new friends—now in paperback!

Fox and Rabbit are very best buddies. They do everything together. Good things like getting ice cream and not-so-good things like getting bad haircuts. But when they meet a new friend, Owl, Fox isn’t so sure if there’s enough friendship to go around.

Soon enough, Fox learns that it’s easy to be friends with Rabbit and Owl. They have lots of fun exploring the depths of Owl's BIG imagination. Together, Fox and Rabbit and Owl sail the high seas, get swallowed by a whale, defeat evil woodchucks, and more—all from the comfort of the playground.

As I said in my review of Fox and Rabbit #1. I love the friendship between these two characters. I like the way fox ate his ice cream and how he bothered rabbit while he slowly ate his. I also thought the bubble gum solution was really funny. It grows back!

Listen I KNOW it’s just a clinic book but I can’t help but get a little weepy when fox waits for tortoise to arrive before they start carving pumpkins, or rabbit knows just what to say to fox after his awful haircut :,)

Graphic Novel
I received an electronic ARC from ABRAMS Kids through NetGalley.
Fox and Rabbit return for more adventures. They make a new friend (Owl) and spend time exploring their world.
Ferry smoothly introduces vocabulary words throughout the short stories. Younger readers will figure out meanings through context as they become part of the stories. I appreciate the final story when Fox finally waits so Tortoise can be part of the fun too.
Plenty of humor for mid-elementary readers along with lessons on friendship, creativity, using imagination.
Looking forward to more adventures.

Fox & Rabbit Make Believe is a graphic novel book written by Beth Ferry and illustrated by Gergely Dudas. I located this book using the online resource Wakelet. Luckily, I was able to find the paperback hard copy at my local library. This was my second graphic book I have read so far, and even thought at the beginning was a challenge, now I feel I can read more. As a young reader, I never was exposed to this type of genre. Now that I had to read it, it gave me a huge different perspective not only to learn about graphic novels, but also because this genre is very popular among children.
Fox & Rabbit Make Believe tells the story of two best friends, Fox and Rabbit, who like to do things together. The story started with Fox & Rabbit counting the money they saved and brainstorming ideas on what to do with the money. As best friends, they decided that the best way is to buy ice cream. As the story continues, Fox and Rabbit met a new friend, Owl. Fox got jealous of the new friend and want to leave; however, he come back and the three of them become friends. Then Owl's imagination take Fox and Rabbit to live an adventure where they imagine many things while playing. For instance, Owl's imagination take them to live an adventure where there is a giant whale that rescue them from a storm. However, during the rescue the whale them them inside its belly.
Something I found very interesting were the illustrations. Duda's do a great job portraying Owl's imagination since they show the real setting next to the imaginary setting. For instance, one illustration shows Fox, Rabbit, and Owl in a Mud Puddle of Doom while the other illustration show the characters in the grass trying to reach a stick that is a few inches away from them. Overall, the illustrations are colorful and eye catching especially for early readers.
Teachers can use this graphic novel to do different activities such as story map multi-level lessons. The story map can explore elements such as beginning, middle, and end, settings, characters, problem, and solution among others. In addition, teachers can use the book to explore and teach graphic format relationship between text and images, graphic novel vocabulary, page layout, color, and more.

This graphic novel book can be use for grades 1st to 5th.

I read Fox and Rabbit Make Believe by Beth Ferry and illustrated by Gergely Dudas solely because there was a fox on the cover and as the main character. I'm always on the lookout for new fox stories, which should really come as no surprise at this point. Thus, any time I happen upon one on NetGalley I have this rather unstoppable habit of requesting them. Unfortunately, for me, I really didn't care much for Fox and Rabbit.

The overall story behind this chapter-styled children's graphic novel was just so...dull. And, granted, I'm not its intended audience which is why I didn't rate it lower, but I just felt like the story never really went anywhere. And perhaps my boredom comes as a result of my distaste for books that relate too much to what real-life would look like. But, honestly? Fox and Rabbit did nothing but wander around a park, make a new friend who had a bit of imagination, and imagine their day at the park as a new adventure.

I'll give it this; Fox and Rabbit's story is fairly realistic.

I imagine the events of this book are precisely what a day at the park is going to look like for your average child. But damn, did I find it boring. And I do wonder whether children would find it boring as well. Why not just have a story about an actual adventure instead of kids making up one? You've already got a fox, rabbit, owl, sparrow, and turtle all roaming the playground as friends...it's not that far of a stretch.

I guess I'm just being picky.

The messages in this book aren't bad.

In fact, encouraging imagination and the importance of building new friendships is a genuinely good message to send to children. I don't have anything in particular against this book as far as it's theme. I personally just hated the way that the theme was presented. It may as well have just been illustrated as kids that pretended they were a fox or a rabbit. It breaks my heart to say this about a book with a fox in it,  but I honestly kind of just hated it.

There are saving graces, of course; the book sends good messages, the artwork is actually quite adorable, and it's probably a story children will love. It's not one that I would recommend or one that I would read to a child of mine, but it's still a decent book in the end.

I was provided a free copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

First sentence: Hooray! Hooray! We have all this money.

Premise/plot: Fox and Rabbit star in their second early-chapter-book-graphic-novel. (I haven't read the first one. But it didn't seem to be an issue in enjoying the second one). These two friends star in five stories: "Money, Marshmallows, & Mmmmmm," "Gum, Yum & Chum," "Swings, Wings & Scary Things," "Fall, Farm & Finicky," and "Friends & Fireflies." Most of the stories are fundamentally about celebrating 'make believe' or imagination. (Though even more FRIENDSHIP is celebrated.)

My thoughts: I really LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this one. I love Fox and Rabbit. (I might have a bit of a soft spot for Fox. I really love, love, love Sparrow. We are definite kindred spirits). I loved all the stories. I loved all the DETAILS. I loved the flow. It felt just right....and also joyous. My favorite story was the third one, "Swings, Wings & Scary Things." The two make a new friend (an owl) and they let their collective imagination get a bit out of hand. But all the stories are awesome.

It's always interesting to read other reviews before I hit publish on my post. I'm surprised that there are a couple people who see this one as boring and dull...but how that's okay because it's for children. But to each their own. Reading is subjective. But I found it delightful and fun.

'Fox & Rabbit Make Believe' by Beth Ferry, illustrated by Gergely Dudas, will open up anyone's imagination. Besides showing that friendship is something that can be spread around to multiple people (or animals, in this case), the characters have fun pretending and enjoying each other's company. At one point, they pretend there are evil monkeys that they have to fight and they have to cross the Island of Bars (monkey bars) to beat them. They claim that all of the red leaves are bits of burning lava in a volcano and try to escape it. Sometimes they have to remind each other that it's just a game, but they learn through it all that courage, understanding, and most importantly, friendship help make their adventures triumphant.

The illustrations are colorful and do a nice job of extending the words in the bubbles above each image. The cartoon-like nature of the book is a welcome concept for young readers who are beginning to read and understand dialogue and how to understand characters' feelings, sometimes based only on the way they are presented in an illustration.

Hello Gemmies! I have a new book review to share with you today. Please note: I received a physical ARC of this book from its publisher in exchange for an honest and fair review.

Fox & Rabbit Make Believe by Beth Ferry is a great graphic novel for younger readers. The format is perfect to get the little ones started reading in graphic novel format. Fox and Rabbit are best friends that share multiple adventures by using their imagination. Each adventure is in the form of a short story. Along the way, they meet a new friend (Owl) and see their old friends.

Each story highlights the aspects of a good friendship like sharing and being supportive. The dialogue is simple and young readers will learn new words that start with the letter F.

The illustrations by Gergely Dudas have a fresh organic feel. All of the friends are adorable, but I love sparrow the best, who can always be counted on for a good food reference. This was a fun, fast read and the perfect story about friendship.

Published by Amulet Books, Fox & Rabbit Make Believe will release on September 15, 2020, and is available for pre-order from all major booksellers. I give Fox & Rabbit Make Believe 4 Friendly gems!

As this year of years winds down, there are stacks of books to still be highlighted and one very large stack to be read before the 2021 releases are embraced. Books in a series are beloved by many a reader. We crave a return to characters we love. We desire to visit settings where we wish we could walk. We laugh at the silliness, we thrill at the adventures, and we sigh at the touching sweetness.

This year there was an abundance of series continuations and some promising new series beginnings (and one single title).

When we know another title in a new series is coming in the same year, we find it hard not to count down the weeks until its arrival. Thankfully, the second book following the Fox & Rabbit debut came a five short months later. Fox & Rabbit Make Believe (Amulet Books, an imprint of Abrams Books for Young Readers, September 15, 2020) written by Beth Ferry with illustrations by Gergely Dudas is full of as much fun, friendship and appearances of the letter F as the first book.

The graphic novel adventures of friends Fox and Rabbit. In this volume they get ice cream, enter a bubblegum blowing competition, meet a new friend Owl at the swings and play pretend, then they go to the pumpkin patch and get lost in the maze, and then they carve the pumpkins they got.

This was really cute. Ferry does such a good job of depicting how children play pretend. The bubblegum and maze adventures were funny. And the art style is adorable. I also like how Fox, Rabbit, and others are good friends to each other. Lots of fun.

A fun little comic with a fox and a rabbit having some make believe adventures. The book is broken into 5 stories with friends, adventures and vocabulary words to help kids familiarize with new words. I loved this book since it has some really great animal characters. They have a turtle as a friend and a flamingo makes an appearance. That's my favorite bird. The characters are very relatable to how children play together and how their imagination runs wild when they play. Kids will enjoy the illustrations and the vivid colors. This is an easy read and children will learn new vocabulary words throughout the book.

Children's graphic novel. This book is second in a series but certainly works as a stand-alone. Fox and Rabbit are good friends. This book is split into 5 chapters-- a visit to the ice cream parlor, an ill-fated bubble blowing contest, an imagination-filled game at the playground with a new friend owl, a visit to a farm for pumpkin picking and a corn maze, and carving pumpkins. Sparrow, who is obsessed with food, and turtle, who always arrives late, are recurring side characters. A gentle book about friendship and fall (that both start with f!), this book is perfect for beginning readers just starting out with graphic novels.

This is the second book in the Fox & Rabbit easy graphic novel series. I did not read the first book, although now I wan to, but you won't feel lost if you haven't either. This book contains five separate stories but they flow nicely into each other. It takes place in the Fall but can be enjoyed any time if the year. We see great friendships, great imaginations, and it's funny. There is talk of vocabulary but in a way that doesn't mess with the flow of the stories. I really enjoyed this book. I'd recommend this for younger children just getting into graphic novels. #Netgalley

Silly Fun with a Few Messages

While this is the second book of the new Fox and Rabbit series, I didn’t read the first one. It's a graphic novel that could be read to a young child or read independently by an early reader who is fairly comfortable with reading and has a decent vocabulary. The book has three separate episodes, and they're mostly just Fox and Rabbit having a good time. I did think at times the book felt a little preachy, which kids may not appreciate in a book that seems to be just fun.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Fox and Rabbit are back with more fun and adventures, with old friends and some new friends too. Themes of friendship, creativity, and using one's imagination weave through the stories, and the graphic novel style is engaging and fun. I really wish California had fireflies, because I love the idea of putting them in a jack-o-lantern! The artwork is sweet and adorable, and I really wanna hang out with these two!

I received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The friendship between fox and rabbit shows that you can be different and like different things and still be friends. I'm not a real fan of graphic novels, so I hate to review them because I think that adds bias to my reviews. But, I think if your child likes those type of novels they will enjoy the book.

I loved this! Fox and Rabbit have the best times. They make a new friend in Owl (who is super cute!) And I loved when they used their imaginations in the park. I also loved that Fox waited for Turtle to carve his pumpkin. The illustrations are always amazing especially the group ones, I like to look at it in great detail as there are many things to see.

Fox and Rabbit have a grand old time playing make believe, using their imaginations to turn acorns into little attacking woodchucks and red leaves into bits of burning lava. Their friendship and conversations are so wholesome and I love their pretend play. Reading this brought back memories of my own childhood and the kinds of things my friends and I played as well.
