This board book expresses love for a child in second person using silly comparisons.
As a parent who swims against the tide of increasing crass culture, I was very disappointed by inclusion of "I love you more than undies love butts" in this book. That was just unnecessarily vulgar, and the other comparisons proved that the author was capable of being humorous without being lowbrow.
BANANAS FOR YOU! is a cute and colorful book about love. The book proposes various scenarios of love metaphors, such as I love you "more than underwear loves butts" or "more than chickens love to dance." Each statement is accompanied with full page, neon color illustrations of the metaphor in action.
What I loved: The neon colors and cute illustrations are sure to appeal to young readers who will love the adorable animals and bright scenes. The word art is large and easy to read, making this an easy one to read aloud. The short sentences combined with the board book format makes this work well for infants through preschoolers. The messages of love and metaphors will make older children giggle and make this a fun pick for a Valentine's day book to share between caregiver and child. The sentences rhyme from page to page, which also makes this roll off the tongue in a fun way.
Final verdict: A silly board book about love, BANANAS FOR YOU! is a rhyming, neon-colored read that will make little ones giggle.

Jack borrowed this book from the Ashland public library. He picked it for the banana on the cover, as he loves bananas and bright colors. I was excited to read it because I like the author’s other books.
As expected, this book was silly, super colorful, and sweet. I think I liked it more than Jack, but he laughed at all the wacky illustrations.
This would actually be a great present to give someone for Valentine’s Day! I can just see the look on the face of someone who gets this instead of a card! Candy and flowers, then at dinner slip this across the table! Sure it will bring a smile to the face of the person who you have given your heart to!
Bananas for You! is a sweet and silly Valentine story that is full of puns. It will have readers laughing out loud, especially the page where we read, “I love you more than undies love butts!” Bright, bold, and whimsical art, help to bring the story to life. This would not only make for a fun read aloud, but also a silly Valentine gift!
My daughter feels it was boring, she wanted the characters to have more personality and be more expressive and wanted it to be a bit more interactive as she has come accustomed to other interactive books. But being that she read it all the way to the end, means it wasn't totally as she said.
Ridiculously cute little board book with eye-catching, silly illustrations. A variety of super silly characters fill each page with a funny declaration of love,
Veg*n parents note: A page about loving you more than a hot dog loves buns.
I got this book from a friend for my daughters birthday. As soon as I saw some of the stuff in it I’m like, “My husband will appreciate this sense of humor.” I think he likes it a little to much haha.
This was a short and sweet book for children. I will say the page about centipedes loving boots made no sense to me, but it was something I think kids would enjoy!
My mom and I were in Winners and the checkout line was pretty long, but thankfully this book was sitting right there on the shelf with the other impulse buys so we read it while we were waiting. A surprisingly good book actually! We liked the colours and the silly rhymes. My mom didn't buy it, I kinda wish she did, but she was trying to show restraint.
