Mr. Martin finds a magical solution to maintain calm and silence around him. But how long will he enjoy his time away from everyone?
Mr. Martin enjoys tranquility. He likes to drink his coffee in silence, read his newspaper quietly, and take peaceful naps. His neighbors are aware of that, but easily forget — so much so that the noise they make drives Mr. Martin up the wall. One day, he decides to take matters into his own hands…
“Mister Martin is suffering in silence! We have to help him!”
Mister Martin likes to drink his coffee, read the newspaper, and take a nap in the quiet. If his neighbors are too loud, he yells out the window at them. But they can’t be quiet enough for Mister Martin. So, he goes to the store to look for a solution. And he finds one, but it works so well that he feels like he has disappeared completely. So he tries to get the attention of his neighbors to see if they can help him burst the bubble he is trapped in. And the joyous BANG has never been such a sweet sound.
Nitelikli çocuk edebiyatı kavramıyla tanıştığım için kendimi şanslı hissediyorum, böyle kitapları okumak içimdeki 7 yaşındaki Melis'i harekete geçiriyor.
This story about a curmudgeon who walls out the noisy world with his own soundproof bubble seems targeted for mature readers who would appreciate Mr. Martin’s quest for silence to enjoy his adult pleasures, such as napping and drinking coffee. Sure, the neighborhood kids come to his rescue, but probably not in time to interest young readers, though the illustrations might offer some amusement.
A beautiful story about becoming a victim of what you most wish for. The translation is beautifully done with lovely phrases like "and listen to the silence" "the silence was deafening" "a little boy heard .. silence speaking volumes" "a prisoner of silence"
Lots of black and white makes it great for younger children. Good for reading out loud as the book demands you to put some life into your "performance". I liked the story a lot as well.
