This book is jam-packed with leadership wisdom and actionable insights. John Gronski shares his years of military and civilian experience so humbly, yet informatively.

Each chapter includes anecdotes, lessons learned, and action items for the ready. This makes for a thought-provoking reading experience. You'll want a pen and paper by your side so you can take notes and jot down ideas.

I highly recommend it to leaders of all ages and experiences. Although much of the book is guided by his military experience, it is nevertheless approachable and universally applicable.

Having read several books on Leadership, I believe this is the most comprehensive and complete book on leading others and yourself. Major General John Gronski has served in what was known as the "Bloodiest Place on the Planet" in Ramadi during the Iraq war. He led 5000+ soldiers from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines. He understands what it takes to lead. Beyond that his applications to business and life are practical and actionable. In fact at the end of each chapter he gives you action steps that you can take to improve your leadership. The book is perfect for anyone, young or old, and in any industry. I cannot recommend this book enough. Read it, and it will change you and the way you lead.

John Gronski’s Iron Sharpened Leadership: Transforming Hard Fought Lessons into Action is truly remarkable. It taught me skills of leadership that I will use at my job to better me and my team. The fact that the lessons come from life experience and trying times as a leader in the military showing his vulnerability which is a key point in his book. It shows his grit and grind. He also gave interviews to entrepreneurs, military staff, and athletes. Which give more thoughts, feelings, and perspective to the book. Which made me not want to put the book down. So if your looking for some inspiration to better your self and team this is the book to read.

Clearly a top 5 leadership book

I’m the wake of our 20 years in Iraq and Afghanistan, numerous military leaders have written books about their unique experiences and challenges. Few have done so with the humility that John Gronski does in this book. As a citizen soldier, Gronski bridges the civilian side of leadership with the proven, battle tested experience of a distinguished commander of more the 15,000 soldiers.
